The Love Of Home Files #7
I just love looking for idea photos for The Love Of Home Files. It’s amazing to me how creative people can be.
I stopped buying or subscribing to magazines because I can look at the best of the best photos every day free online.
Anyway, here’s what I’ve chosen for you this week…
Vintage Inspired Cozy Cottage Christmas:
Something that makes me feel all cozy inside is photos like the one below with all the vintage pretties.
Doesn’t it just about curl your toes?
A sweet tree all dressed up in neutrals with a sprinkling of red. A vintage sled (oh, how I covet those!) and an old window.
I sure miss my old window. But it was so old it literally fell apart.
A Farmhouse Kitchen (In A Real Farmhouse):
A sweet kitchen scene where red and white transferware, white stoneware, and red and white mugs looks very Christmasy.
This family actually lives in a farmhouse. And even better, there are no stainless steel appliances.
I just smile when I visit their blog because they use my favorite old-fashioned white appliances. And this girl (Lisa) has 8 kids and cooks A LOT!
Little Girl’s Room Decorated For Christmas:
This is one lucky little girl with such a pretty tree right in her bedroom!
It’s Time To Look For Vintage Ornaments:
Tis true, it is the season to look for vintage ornaments, as this blogger reminds us.
I have a few Shiny Brite ornaments that a blogger sent me way, way back. Some have broken.
I’d sure like to get my hands on more of these precious vintage beauties.
How To Make Mini Stockings Tutorial:
I keep telling myself I’m going to get that little sewing machine out that I bought not long after I moved here.
But I know my foot’s going to hurt to have it down on the floor, so I’ve shied away from it so far.
But oh, I’d love to make these sweet little stockings.
Cami at Tidbits has a tutorial if you want to sew these little cuties for Christmas.
Reuse & Repurpose Christmas Decor:
What a great idea to take something from one Christmas and repurpose it for the current holiday season.
This blogger added wood houses and bottle brush trees and created a new wreathe.
Red & White Christmas Bedroom:
This red and white bedroom just made me smile when I came across it, so I knew I’d have to share it with you.
Small Faux Tree Display:
This trio of faux trees is surrounded by votive candles and a white fur throw. A garland of holiday greenery lays on top.
How To Make A Gingerbread Cookie Wreath:
Doesn’t this gingerbread cookie wreathe just shine next to the row of copper pots in this kitchen?
How To Make Pressed Lavender Candles:
A gift like this is made of love straight from the garden.
Lavender helps one relax. Win-win. This blogger has this candle and other homemade gift tutorials here.
Dollar Tree Embossed Tile Gingerbread Men:
Good old Dollar Tree always has the best deals. These gingerbread men made from embossed tiles is adorable.
There is a short list of supplies if you want to make them yourself. What a frugal holiday craft to make!
Cookie Packaging Ideas:
If you’re planning to cook up a storm making Christmas cookies, here are packaging ideas you might want to check out.
Neighbors and friends will feel special when they’re given this homemade edible gift.
Quick & Easy Hot Fudge Sauce:
Homemade hot fudge sauce would be welcome any time. But at Christmas this gift is extra special.
My favorites were the wreath with the wooden houses and trees on it, and the hot fudge sauce. I immediately thought of icecream, lol. The lavender candle looks lovely too.
The red and white bedroom speaks to me, although I’m not a fan of the old fashioned style bed. I slept in a similar bed as a child (more than 60 years ago) and always felt like I was in “jail” with the metal bars in the headboard. Funny what we remember, isn’t it, geez! I got my artificial tree up and fluffed, and have been staring at a large box of lights that need to be wrapped on my unlit tree. I know once I get going doing it I’ll be okay, but it’s the getting going – oh my! The rest of decorating the house (the easy stuff) is progressing. I got the Christmas Spirit and have been hauling box after box of Christmas decorations from the basement and pulling out tried and true favorites and beautiful items I forgot I had. There are way too many boxes of Christmas decor holding items from decades, and despite telling myself I wasn’t going to buy a single new thing this year – well, Hobby Lobby got me, darn!
Hobby Lobby gets everyone, lol! How can we resist?!
What I wouldn’t do for one of those old stoves – which IMO, seems much more functional than the ones now. A girl can dream.
Love the simple farmhouse kitchen (Farmhouse on Boone). Realistic, not overdone, charming.
Beautiful photos of all the vintage things I love! I’m glad you had a great time with family. And have leftovers. I love them too!
Ohhh, that blog…gonna add it to my list too!! Thanks!!
My daughter wants us to do those cardboard gingerbread houses when they come to visit just after Xmas…thanks for the idea.
The fudge sauce looks wonderful…oh for the good ole days when I could eat it!!
Could the small stockings be glued instead of being sewn?
I was thinking along the same lines, but using iron on tape to put the stockings together.
I am glad you had family visit yesterday. I am loving the flocked trees and wreaths. I had some gingerbread decorations that I got rid of years ago and now I am building up my collection again. I too enjoy looking at cozy home pictures on the internet but kinda miss the magazines. I am redoing a large vertical winter swag wreath for my front door and decorating my flocked tree today. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a great weekend everyone!
Incredible post, Brenda. Thank you!
Brenda,
Happy Friday! I hope that you had a nice Thanksgiving!
Love all of these cute houses and decorating ideas. The gingerbread men are adorable!
As for the stockings, you could easily make them or other little projects and hand sew them, if it isn’t too painful. Or maybe there is a way to adapt the sewing machine to use your hand on the presser gadget? I am not a sewer so I have no experience just thinking out loud.
Have a wonderful weekend.
x Elizabeth
That’s funny. I was thinking the same thing about that presser thing. Is it called a foot pedal? Anyway, I’m not an experienced sewer either, but I was definately thinking along the same lines as you.
Lovely pictures and great ideas. That chocolate sauce is calling my name. I may have to make it right away. Thanks for the inspiration.
