The Tourist And A Thriller
I didn’t have a great weekend. I’m not sure how long it takes to get this out of your system, but it’s still affecting me.
I’ve been curled up in my chair with a throw by the stove in the living room. I cannot seem to get warm enough. And when I do, I suddenly get too warm. The colder I feel, the more nausea there is.
One day I will feel pretty good. But then the next day is totally different.
Yesterday I was nauseous the entire day. I received the Dramamine Ginger Chews Saturday, but they didn’t really help to settle my stomach.
This is a mysterious illness.
What I’m Watching:
I began watching “The Tourist” with Jamie Dornan over the weekend. It’s about a man (Jamie Dornan) who is driving down the road when suddenly a semi truck begins tailing him. Then it hits the back of his car.
What ensues is a scary drive where Dornan tries to get away from the guy in the semi. But finally the semi wins out and there’s a car accident.
Dornan wakes up in the hospital in the Australian outback with no memory. He must take the few clues he has and try to discover who he is.
But then more mysterious things start happening to him.
What I’m Reading:
Book Summary:
It should have been just a mid-life fling. A guilty indiscretion that Neve Connolly could have weathered. An escape from twenty years of routine marriage to her overworked husband, and from her increasingly distant children.
But then Neve pays a morning-after visit to her lover, Saul, and finds him brutally murdered. Their pied-à-terre is still heady with her perfume. And all the lies she has so painstakingly stitched together threaten to unravel.
After scrubbing clean every trace of her existence from Saul’s life, Neve believes she can return to normal. But she can’t get out of her head the one tormenting question: what was she forgetting?
An investigation into the slaying could provide the answer. It’s brought Detective Chief Inspector Alastair Hitching into her life. And Neve’s worst fears right to her door.
But with every new lie Neve descends further into the darkness of her betrayal. And straight into more danger than she ever imagined.
Because Hitching isn’t the only one watching Neve. So is a determined killer who’s about to make the next terrifying move in a deadly affair.
Ivy:
Ivy suddenly decided that she likes to sit in my chair with me. She perches herself at the end of the recliner.
She’s also decided that sometimes she wants to be next to me in bed. Problem is, Ivy stretches out horizontally across the bed, leaving me little room.
I think her sudden change in behavior may be because she’s worried about me. Ivy’s very sensitive.
I’m so grateful to have her here with me.

Animals can tell if their human or another animal is not feeling well. I would make a call to the doc office as they may have some help to get you through this time – hopefully your symptoms will subside soon. In the meantime, rest is critical as your body preserves its energy to combat the symptoms. Peppermint is also known to help w nausea (as well as ginger and rubbing alcohol already mentioned). You are in my prayers.
Brenda, I believe strongly you should go see your doctor. I think Ivy is concerned for you, as well – they are very intuitive. Covid is particularly hard on our older population and long covid is brutal. Go check in with your physician to be sure you’re doing what you need to do to get better. There might be more therapies you can employ to improve your healing.
Brenda, I am so sorry that you are still feeling poorly. I know nothing about Covid but what I read in the news and I have heard many friends say that it takes awhile to get back to normal.
Take care of yourself and enjoy Ivy offering comfort and love. She is a Godsend.
Brenda, maybe it is a good idea to go see your doctor. Reading through these comments has me worried. The fact that your symptoms aren’t going away is very concerning. Please consider it. I’m sure if Ivy could talk, she’d tell you the same thing. It’s sweet of her to comfort you. The tv show sounds interesting. The book sounds terrifying!
Brenda, I have had some medical issues myself over the last few weeks and am just realizing that I haven’t heard from you much at all recently. I was surprised to learn with this post that you have had Covid. I can’t find a posting from you that says when you became sick so I don’t know how long you have not felt well. I think I may have deleted some posts unwittingly. My email is so cluttered with political stuff sometimes I delete without looking closely at what I am deleting. I surely hope that you begin to feel significantly better each day. Perhaps you should see a medical person to make sure that something else isn’t going on. You are on my prayer list and am sending healing vibes.
Our fur kids seem to sense when something’s not right.
Like others here, when I was recovering from my hip replacement they were almost stuck to me.
Hope it passes soon,I second the idea of looking up the long Covid symptoms.
You worry me, Brenda. Please contact your doctor. You’ve been so sick for too long. Hugs, Elaine
I think it might be a good time to check in with your doctor. This new strain of COVID (nausea-not being able to hold much food down-chills etc) I think is very different from the previous strains. My brother the fittest healthiest man I have ever known died of it last August. He didn’t go to a doctor and thought he could ride it out. Maybe-just maybe, after having it 2 weeks and not really improving if he had gotten medical help or at least a doctor’s opinion he would be alive today. He was sick a little over 30 days before he died at home. He was probably as surprised as everyone that knew him was…he was so healthy, lived such a healthy lifestyle we all thought he was going to break the world record for longevity. He died a few months after his 65th birthday.
I’m so sorry for your loss!
Brenda, have you tried a heating pad or heated throw to warm you up? It’s a shame Ivy won’t lay on your lap. She would warm you up quickly!
There’s lots of OTC medicines and ideas to try, but when I was very sick and nauseous, day and day out, I was given Zolfran to take and I hated it. It left a horrible aftertaste. Then someone mentioned Phenergan to me and called it the gold standard. It took two months to finally diagnose me and to have surgery. I stayed on Phenergan up until the day before me surgery. My stomach was up in my esophagus!
I’ve always found gingerale and saltine crackers to help nausea. Nurse Ivy is clearly on the case. Such an adorable sweetheart.
Candied ginger may work better than the ginger with Dramamine, and you won’t have to deal with the undesirable side effects of Dramamine.
I’ve found Gin-Gin Ginger Chews to relieve nausea caused by a variety of things.
Hope the nausea ceases and you have a full & complete recovery!
Ivy is adorable.
So sorry that you’re still not feeling well from Covid. I hope you don’t have long haul Covid. I am feeling back to 100% after having Covid for a week. I didn’t have any GI symptoms though – mine started with a sore throat and then all head congestion. Like a really bad cold. Caught it from my mom, who had the same symptoms. She was fine in 4 days! Thinking of you and sending get well vibes and prayers.
Maybe do some reading on “long COVID” and find out more about what the symptoms are. You may be experiencing it. Doctors are still trying to grapple with the array of long COVID symptoms and how to treat them, even how to diagnose them properly. Our pets are very keen at sensing when we humans are out of sorts, be it physically with an illness or emotionally and they will stay very close to us, as close as we let them. In January 1990 I got very ill with a bacterial lung infection that knocked me for a loop for two weeks and another month to recover strength back. I had two dogs then and it felt as if they were glued to me some times, They stayed so close and would snuggle up against me like they were trying to keep me warm or just giving me comfort, which they did. During that period they were also the best behaved dogs in the whole world!
We have always found drinking a cup of chicken broth at a time to be helpful with nausea…as well as applesauce, toast or tea. We get the 4 Cup sized cartons of chicken broth…organic and with as few ingredients as possible. Hope you get past this soon. I too went through being really bad, to next day being mostly ok and back and forth…also, would be freezing one minute and very hot soon after. Miserable. But this was 2 years ago now. Seems that kind of covid should be gone now…
Hope you will escape the nausea in this sickness very soon. I’ve heard of being cold all the time, from another person that was sick with covid, but have not heard of nausea. That has to be horrible, with the hot and cold feelings.
I think our pets know when we aren’t feeling well, and also when we are sad or crying. They are our guardian angels. And Ivy will keep an eye on you. Love that picture of her. Hugs from WI, Bonnie
For temporary relief of your nausea you might try smelling rubbing alcohol. I get nausea from ozempic (for diabetes) I just give it a whiff straight from the bottle and it does help relieve it within a few seconds. Or just use a cotton ball soaked in it or one of those little rubbing alcohol packets. It helps me.
Kim, That’s what an audiologist had me do after doing some vestibular testing that left me very nauseated. She put some on a cotton ball and had me smell it. It’s a good temporary fix.
