Why is Everyone so Angry?

Does anyone know why everyone is so angry? It must have been bubbling up in a slow boil for some time before it spilled over.
I’ve decided if I write something about bookish souls and cause such a rise in people, I might as well say what I really think.

Whew, suddenly I’m excited about writing again!
I sit in my little house with the electric stove warming my feet, and there are kitties sprawled about. Cats can find the smallest places to curl up and nap. You wonder if they’re dreaming about chasing mice behind those furry closed eyelids.
The Haters are Everywhere:
Haters seems to be everywhere. Many of them wear tactical gear and vests and cover their faces with masks. I don’t recall when members of law enforcement were allowed to wear masks, do you?
Scores of homogenous (can’t tell if they’re male or female) individuals are carrying guns and getting in people’s faces. Scaring children and older folks and raining terror down on everyone.
If there is protesting, it seems to be provoked. I don’t think they’re doing their jobs so much as stomping around in their military boots and causing mayhem.
The news I read online is full of doom and gloom. This used to be a place where law and order was taken seriously. Could there be something different in the drinking water?
Lately, I’m a little afraid of going out. I don’t quite recall when things suddenly became scary. And if you don’t know what I’m referring to, then you haven’t been paying attention.
Stampington Magazines:
Have you ever read these magazines? They’re more like books, really, and every single page is lovely. Like you’ve stepped into a realm of magic.
This is the only type of publication that I buy anymore. I order them from Stampington. Remember the one called ‘In Her Garden’ that I showed you last year?

The images below are from one of their cozy issues. I find myself turning the pages slowly and savoring the beauty of each one. They’re not thin and flimsy, but thicker and more durable.

Missing Delivery Package:
I stepped out on my porch because it said my jars of apple butter had been delivered, but the package wasn’t there. They must have dropped it off next door, because I saw the FedEx truck in front of their house a little while ago.
The light streams in through the windows, and the sky is a bright cerulean blue. It’s still, and there’s not a creature stirring…not even a mouse. There’s not a whiff of wind out there.
I imagine my neighbors are all huddled in their houses away from the cold.

I’m enjoying my little winter-themed tree. The twinkling lights are so pretty.
Maybe some people need the sight of twinkling lights year-round. They’re somehow reassuring, and certainly predictable.
And not much is predictable anymore. But you can have a little faith in those small beacons of light.
My Sweet Simon:

You can just look into Simon’s eyes and see that he wants to pounce on something. He’s my silly boy and seems to need me the most.
The girls curl up and sleep, and it doesn’t matter to them where I am as long as I’m home with them.
At night, when I’m in bed reading or watching a bit of TV, there are usually two cats asleep on my bed. And Simon is typically on a big pile of folded blankets on a table nearby.
I love seeing my kitties all around me.
But Why is Everyone so Damned Angry?
I wake up in the morning, and everything around me pretty much looks the same. There’s a chair across from me, and if I get up, I can touch it and see that it is real. There’s usually a cat curled up in it. That’s real.
I turn on a lamp, and the light is still filtered through the shade. Nothing different there. I don’t see anything that could be regarded as fake.
It’s as if there was another virus, and the people who caught it never recovered.
I see angry people on social media, spitting out vitriol like they’re about to choke on it.
When did the rules get changed? History erased? The laws be damned? Laws are suddenly meaningless, words in a book that no one reads anymore.
What on earth is going on???
Well, time for my cup of coffee. I see there is an email about the latest books being published this month. I’ll sip my coffee and look them over.

I had a black Asian Bombay cat that looked very much like your Simon. He was a wild child (fierceness bred into them I think) but also the most loving and needy kitty ever. He slept on me (not next to me, but on me) so he could snuggle. And he was a heavy cat … not fat, just muscle. And sleek silky black fur. I miss him dearly and love seeing pictures of Simon.
Simon is so cute. Please give your sweet little boy an extra pet from me!
I’m so mad all the time!
I’ve had to hear about this narcissist every day for 10+ years, & I’m exhausted, disgusted, horrified & totally pissed.
Not surprised!
I’m also grieving how deeply dissapointed I am in my best friend & family members who can’t see the patterns of authoritarianism I learned as a schoolchild. I love them, but I don’t respect their choices or morals in admiring him. Or at least thinking he will do what he promised them, which was a hook to get them to vote for him.
I will address my thoughts on one thing out of so many I could mention: Immigrants.
I’d had a limited exposure to immigrants till about 20 years ago. At that job, I worked with people from many countries, and almost without exception, they were extremely hardworking & capable people who totally impressed me. Every immigrant construction, landscape or home repair worker I’ve ever met was the same. My mother always said Mexicans are lazy. I have totally seen the opposite.
Also, I’ve worked as a nurse in operating rooms. Everybody’s blood & internal organs look the same. I just don’t get why people feel the need to vilify every immigrant as if they are the cause of America’s problems! (This is another sign of authoritarianism, to vilify immigrants)
Anyway, thank you Brenda for speaking out about your feelings. I admire you. This is YOUR blog & you can say your thoughts. Don’t let the naysayers get you down.
it’s what most of us are thinking anyway.
Unfortunately, it can’t all be books, decor, movies & pets, etc., which I enjoy. Real life is intruding in a way it never did before.
Nothing wrong with immigrants as long as they are legal.
I am telling myself that this too shall pass, as the old saying says. It will take perhaps 3 more years but you never know what may happen in politics – it could all change tomorrow. I’ve paid attention to politics in our country for at least the past 30 plus years, and as a student of American, world and ancient history, this isn’t anything we haven’t seen before happen in other countries and even at times in our own country. In the not too distant future, certain leaders and billionaires could find themselves facing a modern-day equivalent of the American Revolution, French Revolution, or the Russian Revolution. Are you preparing for the potential ice storm and/or lots of snow that is coming (I believe) by Friday. Tulsa is in the path of a giant winter storm as is the Texas Panhandle and depending on whether the storm shifts again, about the upper half of Texas at least and vast areas of the U.S. from several southern states, the Great Lakes area and all moving toward the East coast. Even Washington D.C. may get hit hard. Some southern states could get as much as a foot or more of snow on top of an ice coating, and they are not equipped to handle that, to say the least. I still remember feeling helpless and horrified when Texas was hit with that bad ice storm that took down most of the power grid and more than 400 people died. I hope this time people are more prepared and shelters will be available for those who may lose their power
Brenda, I enjoy reading your view on various things. I also wonder why so much hatred has escaped into the world since Covid. It’s like taking a nap in good mood and waking up cranky.
Sometimes I’m embarrassed when I see the Karen’s rage since I’m in that generic group. So I make sure to be pleasant even if I feel like yelling. It makes me feel better and sometimes you can see or hear the surprise from someone.
Driving with so many angry drivers is dangerous so I try to go out when traffic is light. I made my last trip to prepare for the winter storm this morning. Yesterday, I drove home from the store via residential streets to avoid the traffic and it was very relaxing.
I do have a gun but it is at my brothers house as I had him take it from my house when I was at the hospital for knee surgery. I had a weird dream but it scared me. That was almost 10 years ago. I loved target practice and belonged to a woman only sports group in the area – DIVA WOW. But I haven’t been back since the surgery.
Take care and stay warm during this next round of wild weather.
Well, you are right about the anger…and yes, I think it has been coming a long time. And if you think life is hard? Just wait until you become 70…at least that is when we began having a lot more problems. I have been threatened in scary ways in grocery parking lots…by men I never saw before nor even knew who they were. For a time, here, I got one of the young men to come with me to the car…and they gladly did. I am glad to say, it seems to have calmed down some in recent months. But I am careful…I will walk 20 ft out of my way just to avoid men. Also, doing any kind of business has become near impossible for us. The ridiculous hoops you have to jump thru, the lies we are told, being blamed for THEIR lack of competence…etc. I think they think because of our ages, we are in Alzheimers maybe…but the doc told me some time ago I would never be senile. Heh…surprise, surprise, surprise!!! But it does weary me, causes my blood pressure to go higher, and so I have to get my kids or other people to sometimes help us. Right now, the manager here at these apts is playing games…trying to make it impossible for us to correctly fill out the horrendous paperwork in order to redo the lease. I am hopeful that when our daughter moves in with us in a few weeks, maybe her being in her early 40s will make them leave us alone moreso. What surprises me most is that we live in the South…where generally good manners were in order. Seems most here no longer think so. Good manners in my opinion are like the grease that allows an engine to function properly. I think the majority of folks will continue reading here, Brenda. Whether we agree with what you say or not. Try not to worry about that. No one is forced to read here. And personally, I would feel free to block ones who keep coming back to harrass. Most likely they harrass others in their daily lives too.
#1. my problem decluttering is deciding what to let go of.
#2. most anger today is political colliding with personal.
I love your posts. I get to decorate and clean my nest, then cuddle and appreciate my fur babies.
I am mixing little chosen moments of photos as I walk through the house. I will do a full decorating post when I get my library bookshelves.
Brenda-the entire tone of this conversation is very disappointing. I always looked forward to your calm decorating style.kitties-book reviews. Please do not allow people with different views to change the direction of your story telling & writing. All of the rage & nastiness can be found plenty of other places. Regret that your feelings have been hurt – but some want to spread misery-what a shame
what a shame you can’t have compassion for those in pain. let it go.
Let’s all take a deep breath. Helps every time for me.
I just love this cozy respite from the turmoil of the world. Say whatever you want, Brenda, your true friends won’t get their panties in a bunch over a difference of opinion!
thank you, Joyce.
I agree
Melody, I don’t know where you live, but here in IL, grocery prices and heating prices have skyrocketed. In fact, I was just reading a news article today about how much higher the cost of living is right now, especially with food. My elderly mother who lives alone and doesn’t even use her clothes dryer (she hangs her clothes to dry in the house or outside) had her heating (gas) bill almost double this year.
I’d also love to know where you’re getting your statistics on human trafficking and murders. “According to a 2024 report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 95% of defendants charged with federal human trafficking offenses in fiscal year 2022 were U.S. citizens.” Straight from the DOT government website.
Your governor is the reason why prices are so high Melanie. He’s an horrible leader. And being kind to all? Please! Lakin Riley comes to mind. Raped and killed by an illegal. The list is long of women killed by illegals. Are they all criminals? Absolutely not. But they need to come to our country legally! Period! And ICE wearing masks? They are protecting themselves. Please remember! Clinton and Obama used ICE regularly. You can pull up many videos of both men and Hillary, saying we need deport illegals. And they did it! Please don’t pretend to be so offended as if ICE has never been used. Please!
Kelley, I am not going to argue with you. We can agree to disagree. Also, you need to look up your accusations. More women are raped and killed by US citizens (as a matter of fact, it’s usually by someone they know) than illegals.
What an absolutely ridiculous statement Melanie! It makes it ok these women were murdered because more American women are murdered by someone they know or by another American?!? It would not have happened if the illegal men were NOT let in!! Tell your little argument to these families! Wow!
That makes it ok Melanie???? What a ridiculoustatement. Tell your argument to the families who lost a daughter ! WOW!
“You’ve made this day a special day by just being you. There’s no person in the whole world like you, and I like you just the way you are.”
WILL ROGERS
Oh Dear Lady…you are so mislead! Watch several TV channels not just one…you will be enlightened to the horrors that are really happening, and you can stand up with the rest of us to save the country we all love.
I commented before about how reading your blog feels like getting updates from my mom. She would have been 66 this year but will forever be 52. I love getting your updates, whatever they are. I like knowing you read another book, seeing the house updates, the decor, the flowers and plants, the kitties, what you bought on amazon and liked, news of your friends and family…
I care, as if you were a family member. I worry about your health, I’m genuinely happy you found an old friend and catch up with her a lot, I like knowing you’re safe and cozy in your cute house. It’s healing my soul to read you.
Freedom of speech shouldn’t go over being a decent, respectful human being. Stating an opinion shouldn’t make anyone feel lesser. If it needs to be said, it should be formulated constructively to help others grow, else it serves no purpose.
I shouldn’t have looked at the magazines website… I want so many! Wow! The cozy issue and the books of list… And there is so many Bella Grace issues that looks interesting! I’ll spend a lot of money I think… oh no. haha
I’m glad my posts are soothing, like I’m your mom. And those Stampington issues pages are thicker than the pages of a book. Will hold up well, I think.
Then Melody, you might need to read your bible a bit more. Jesus said to be kind to EVERYONE. He railed (flipped tables) at his own church for their bigoted and self serving teachings. I think you should choose a new mentor ( one who is clear on Jesus and not recruiting for the MAGA movement) and find a better bible study group, if you are so inclined. Here on this site, every person is allowed the protection of the Constitution. It’s just not that way in the real world any longer. Please wake up and educate yourself.
Hon, I am a Christian but I and most of America have not been mislead by the hatefulness of Christian Nationalism. You will not convince anyone here to convert to your thinking. I’ll ask again, be kind to everyone here. Why do you think images are not allowed next to your name? Comment on the post but stay on topic. Everyone is safe here. If you need help, just ask. But don’t push your religious beliefs onto anyone here.
I am not a Christian Nationalist. Eternity is a long timeTake care
You are, you just don’t know it. They’re sneaky like that.
You are not as intelligent as you believe you are GOODBYE
Get over yourself Rhonda.
Brenda,
Beautifully written and spot on.
Simon is beautiful 💖
He is, and he has the softest fur!
I enjoy it when you write about yourself, your home, your beliefs. There may be other rude comments to come but as someone once said, I don’t have to carry other people’s baggage just because they gave it to me. I am careful what I choose to pick up. Easier said than done.
The important thing is you are making people happy.
Then I’ll just keep writing on my laptop from my chair here in Tulsa. I feel like I’ve been set free!
Have you ever read Daphne du Maurier’s book The House On The Strand? It is about a guy who experiments with a hallucinogenic drug and he travels back and forth in time to the 14th in England. It was written in 1969.
I’ll check it out! Thanks!
What you are doing is a form of resistance to the anger, the violence, the contempt that is spreading at the moment. To be lucid about the state of the world but not to let yourself be defeated, not to bend. It takes courage. Carry on. On this side of the Atlantic, we also😉 read you. From France!
Ah, I am so, so sorry for what the president here is doing to other countries!
No Brenda, it’s not for you to be sorry. It’s not your suitcase! You, your mission (and you accept it!)it is to deliver to us these notes so sweet, so pleasant, so lively; little shards of real life. And that’s critical right now. We need you🙂
I so agree with your perception of the world right now. It’s very upsetting which is why I enjoy your blog so much. Keeps me grounded and in touch with the simple, lovely moments. Thank you
I have to blend the lovely moments with the craziness to keep from going mad.
I don’t agree with her perception. The reason for the masks is ignored.
Brenda, this post is brilliant and just what I needed to read today. What has happened to the America that we grew up in? Where has common sense and decency gone? These seem like perilous times. I really hope the people who think this is normal and ok will soon see the light.
Your writing is so appreciated. Don’t ever stop being there for us!
And your cats are always a joy to see. I have one named Baby Kitty, even though he’ll be 14 years old in March. 😊❤️
They remain our babies! Thank you. I haven’t written so freely before because I feared the haters. But as I wrote, if I can piss people off with a post about bookish souls, I might as well put my two cents in!
The anger seems to have permeated everything. You see it in drivers, going to the grocery store, just everywhere, and of course TV. We don’t watch the news much any more. It’s too depressing. We do know what is going on though. I’m glad to see you are excited about writing because it is so enjoyable.
I don’t watch TV news; I only subscribe to streaming services, but I see everything online. And it’s a terrifying sight.
