Kendra Repainted The Front Door

Yesterday was a nice warm day, so Kendra repainted the front door. I had the girls over to celebrate their birthdays, which are only two weeks apart. Kendra’s birthday is on Thanksgiving Day.
Whereas the door was a peach color, now it is the green Kendra initially visualized for Mamie.

It’s very overcast outside today, but I wanted to show you the door even though the light is kind of dim.
A Fancier House Number On The Wall:
It’s hard to see in this light, but Kendra also DIYed a house number sign for the front showing the house address.
I didn’t bother moving the garden art the movers set out front, because well, this is real life here. And I don’t want you to see a sanitized version of reality.
Here the house is from another angle. I lightened the photo a little to give you a better indication of how the green door looks. The fancier house number sign gives a little bit of “class” to the front of Mamie.

I love the green paint against the periwinkle blue on the siding and bricks. Kendra will stain the wood rails along the steps another day, probably in the spring.
Now Mamie is possibly the prettiest house on the block. Or, as I like to say, Mamie is possibly the prettiest girl at the dance.
Something just arrived that is going in the back south-facing room. And then one more piece for the living room should arrive this week.
Scott, Kendra’s boyfriend, came over and got the bed frame put together and laid the mattress out to inflate. But they had to leave before he could put the box springs together.
Getting The Box Springs Put Together:
Hopefully I can get grandson Riley over here to put the box springs together. And once the bed is set up, I can put linens on the guest bed. Then I’ll have Mamie ready to show you, room by room.
Kendra put motion detectors and a carbon dioxide detector up while she was here yesterday and hung a few more paintings on the wall.
My daughters have helped me whip this 103 year old house into shape. Lots of things have been done in the past few weeks and I couldn’t be more pleased. Especially with the holidays ahead of us.
I plan to look into curtains at a later date. The ceilings are very tall, thus the windows will need long curtains. It will probably take about 115 inches of fabric to cover them.
For now I want to rest and enjoy my new/old home with Ivy. Come spring, I will add landscaping and plant herbs and plants and flowers. Then we can look into doing something about the porch floor, which is still a drab color.
The Peach Door:

And now…
The Green Door:

What do you think about the green paint instead of the peach painted door? I’ll be so glad when I can plant things in front and visually soften the angles of the house.

Love the green door. Certainly a lot accomplished in a short time. Glad you are happy there. I’m sure Ivy is as well.
I actually like both door colors!
How are you able to go up and down those stairs?
Your daughter has definitely inherited your eye for design! It looks beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving my friend! So glad to see you in this lovely home…
I love it here!
When I started reading your blog, you were moving from a small rented blue house.
I went from that small rented house to an apartment for 8 years. Then to the last apartment for over 2 and a half years. And now I’m here.
Love the green door!! Your new home is so cozy and comfortableโฆEnjoy!!
I could not be happier!
Love, Love the green door!
Hi Brenda, itโs been a long time since Iโve visited the Cozy House. Yesterday morning I thought about you and decided to see what you have been up to. Congratulations on Mimi and all of her green door goodness.
I am really looking forward to spring when you begin to show us your yard.
Suzan Ladybug cottage
It really makes a statement!
Winner! The green is a much better compliment to the periwinkle and Mamie looks happy. Congratulations on so much progress.
Someone said the peach couldn’t stand up to the bright blue. But I think the green door holds its own.
Your blog is so much happier. It was hard to read (I understand that it was real life) when you seemed so unhappy in the apartment.
I was unhappy. The last 7-8 months there I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I think the green door is the perfect choice! Very charming!
Thank you!
I love the green door!
I do too! She did a good job with the door and the address sign.
YES!!! to the green door. Have a very happy Thanksgiving.
Hugs from Linda in Keno, Oregon
Hugs from Tulsa, OK!
Love the green door best! Iโm happy for you getting Mamie. Iโve tried to comment before this but it would never post so letโs see if this does. I enjoy your blog and seeing what youโve done so far in your new home. And always, always enjoy seeing Ivy!
It did post! Ivy has a good life. She does whatever she wants. But I must say that she is a very good girl!
While I did like the peach doorโฆI like the green door even better. I am thrilled for you that Mamie is making you so happy.
I find myself smiling for no reason.
What a wonderful green door and number board that loves the blue Mamie outside. You have changed so much in your blog and it is so easy to find and see quickly to see what else you have done.
Joy
I’m glad that it’s easy to navigate.
I love love the green door. Its perfect with the blue. You have such a beautiful home enjoy it.
I’m very much enjoying it!
It looks lovely ๐ things are going smoothly now…big sigh of relief.. I love the green door๐
It is so peaceful here.
My phone is screwing up for some reason. I didnโt even get ur last post. Anyway, WOW!!! What a difference a color makes. Love the green. It makes my mouth water๐คฉ. You might think about tablecloths for curtains. Just hang them with clips. Iโm proud of u for getting out and about. And exercising!!! Youโre doing good lady. Have a peaceful week
I’m just not to the point of thinking much about curtains yet. But it won’t be long!
Well, Brenda, the green door is SO SO much better! Love it!
We did something similar to your house number sign and everyone can see it but Fed-ex ๐ตโ๐ซ They keep delivering across the street. Luckily not much I order gets delivered by them. Donโt they understand that even numbers are on one side of the road, and odd on the other?
I think youโve done really well unpacking and arranging. We moved 10 times in 7 years and we got pretty good at it. Now weโve been in this house since January โ77. Canโt even imagine moving.
Keep on keeping on, youโre doing a super job!
I never want to move again.
I love the new green door ! How appreciate Mamie reminds me of the sky and the grass . All natural ! Once you can plant in the spring sheโll be beautiful! She beautiful now too ! ๐โค๏ธ๐พ
In my reading, it said that craftsman house exterior colors should mimic nature.
Dear Brenda,
I LOVE the green! It’s a cheery apple green, just as saturated as the blue. The pink was too pastel, in my humble opinion. Mamie is getting a makeover, and I”m sure your neighbors appreciate it! One house at a time!
I feel sad for that poor boarded up house across the way.
I like the green!!!!! And the blue – is looking better and better!!!
Looking forward to the home tour!
I’ll put that together soon.
The paint is an improvement. Plants will be helpful on the porch and flowerbeds. It is good to look forward to that.
Yes, I look forward to spring! But I will enjoy the winter months in my cozy little house.
Well, I like both and I was one who liked the peach, but I will digress, I think the green door makes Mamie look classier now that you have the pics close to each other. I really like the blue. The brighter picture really showed her color well and it’s really beautiful. I think I’d paint the railings white though. Stained looks like it would add another color and potentially take away from the historic features of Mamie that are already there. My .02 for whatever it’s worth. I’m not a decorator. LOL. It’s very, very cute. Can’t wait to see more. I dreamed last night of all my houses and which ones had the perfect parts. LOL!!!
What a nice, but unusual dream to have!
I much prefer the peach door myself.
I like both.
I probably like both door colors equally well. They both are attractive. If the wooden rails were painted either periwinkle blue or white, they would probably blend in better.
Kendra wants to stain them to break up the paint colors.
The green door is perfect! Itโs exactly the right shade I was picturing.
I’m glad!
Yay, green door! I liked that idea from the first.
Mamie looks good!
I think Mamie is smiling.
Now itโs safe to confess! The peach door was the only decorator decision of yours I didnโt like EVER! But the green? Oh my! It just sings with the blue and white! Gorgeous! And the number plate is so classy and coordinates perfectly.
And Ivy? If youโre reading this, you need to STAY HOME! Itโs dangerous out there! Not worth a few moments of new sights and smells. Youโve got a purr-fect life! Enjoy it!
I couldn’t get out of this chair fast enough. There have been open doors before at my apartment and she would just stand there and not go out. But she had a little expedition planned yesterday. At first I couldn’t find her on the porch, but then she moved and I quickly shooed her back inside. Then I closed that door, dry or not.
Bonsoir Brenda
J’aime beaucoup ce vert. Le pรชche รฉtait trรจs fade.
Vous allez รชtre trรจs heureuses Ivy et vous dans cette maison !
Amitiรฉs de France !
This time I was smart enough to Google translate your comment! Thank you very much!
Love the new color!
I have used and loved HPD half price drapes on Amazon.
Also TWOPAGES. They have customs sizes! But a bit more money
I enjoy your blog ๐
The decorators I follow on YouTube use TWOPAGES.
I was fine with the peach door, but the apple green color is more noticeable. I like it! It’s a cheerful, happy shade.
I’ve always loved this shade of green. My furniture that I’ve painted is pretty much this color.
Love the green … it really pops! Mamie has style.
I think so, but then I’m slightly prejudiced!
The new green color of the door is lovely and has a color saturation that feels right with the shade of blue on Mamie. The house number plaque Kendra added is a lovely touch. The colors remind me of a plant I used to overwinter indoors called the blue potato bush (if link below works, there is a picture):

Very heart warming that your entire family is ensuring you and Ivy are comfortably settled and ensconced at Mamie!
The link goes to a very pretty color of flowers. Yes, my family stepped up. As well as my two oldest grandkids today. They put together the rest of the bed and took care of several other jobs I needed done.
I think you have found your forever home. It all looks so nice.
What fun you are going to have planning out your yard and gardens
Oh yes!
Brenda, I tried to send you an email but it wouldn’t send. I’m concerned about you showing pictures of your house with the house number online. Maybe something to think about and blank out the number in photos? Imo the green door is perfection, as is Kendra’s house number sign! So happy for you! Take care, Becky
Well, I’ve thought about that. Maybe you’re right.
This green door is a lot prettier I think!
Congrats and enjoy your new cozy little house!
Finally…I have my old cozy little house I always wanted!
I am so excited for you. The house is perfect as is the colors. In the Spring she will really shine with your gardening skills. The inside is also really nice and you seem to be in a happy place decorating and getting ready for the holidays. I love your cat. I have a big Russian Blue cat, Ivy has so much expression and is so cute. Happy decorating and Happy Thanksgiving.
I’ve pondered getting a second cat. Today I was looking at the profile of a three-legged cat that had to have one leg amputated. I would be open to getting a cat that’s not as wanted. Just don’t know if it could run fast enough to get away from Ivy if she pounced on it. It was only about 7 lbs to her 20.
You would be surprised at how fast and agile they are. I feed a feral that can only use 3 of his legs. He caught a squirrel the other day.๐ณ
I love the green! It’s the same color as my front door.
I think Mamie is lovely. Can’t wait to see the upcoming Spring foundation plantings! You’re doing a great job.
It’s too bad the brick was ever painted over. The color wouldn’t look as bold if there was brick to break it up.
The green door is wonderful. Look how far youโve come in just a few short weeks. Iโm sad you have to pay rent in that apt but looking at Mamie seems to make it worthwhile. And you wonโt be having to move in cold and snowy January!!
Arthritis and neuropathy in my right leg is really acting up. I wanted to be moved in and settled before the cold weather set in. So it was worth it to me.
I love the green door! I thought the peach door looked good, but the green door is a beautiful contrast. Kendra did a great job on the house numbers. Mamie looks beautiful.
She’s very picky about things. Much more than I am. Everything has to be perfect. I keep telling her things are good enough, but she doesn’t seem to listen.
I like the address plaque Kendra made, it’s a style that goes well with the Craftsman style and large enough to be able to read from the street, which is important (at least to me). Sorry, I don’t like the green color, I don’t think it does anything for the blue, maybe too close in tone to the blue to stand out and attract the eye (in a good way). Maybe more contrast between house and door color works better to attract the eye. Have you considered making your own curtains if you can find a material (or sheets, I’ve made curtains out of sheets for years) that appeal? I’m not sure how long king size sheets are, but they might be a budget friendly option for making your own curtains (at least, they used to be). If you don’t have a sewing machine iron on hem tape works great and won’t come off when the curtains are washed. Ikea also sells very long curtains, and I’m sure Amazon is loaded with options, it’s a matter of color, quality, material and cost. I’m a cheapskate myself ๐ It will come down to how much you’re willing to spend, and if curtain rods aren’t already above the windows in Mamie, you’ll have to add those to your budget. I’m eager to see what you do with the planting beds that frame the front porch, I’m sure they’ll look beautiful next spring when you plant. The weeks are flying by now near the end of the year, zoom!
Well the green isn’t for everyone. But when I read about craftsman style houses, it said the history of this type house is to paint with the colors of nature. So the sky is blue and plants/nature are green.
Love the green door. What an adorable house! Pretty, pretty, pretty!
She speaks of nature with blue and green.
oh wow! Mamie is gorgeous. and a house that looks this gorgeous in the fall is really going to be outstanding next spring & summer. The art work looks nice in front.
She used oil-based paint and I love the color. As well as the house address sign she DIYed.
Much better!
I think so!
Love the green door, makes Mamie pop, she is a happy house, and your posts are so much more lighthearted and happy. Ivy looks likes she’s just the happiest cat in the world. Wishing you Happy Thanksgiving in your new home…
Little Miss Ivy, who for all of her 6 years has not gone outside, suddenly decided to make a mad dash for new territory when the door was slightly open to let the paint dry. I heard her open the door and I quickly attempted to get out of this electric chair, which isn’t a quick task. And I shooed her back inside. Scared me half to death.
Love the green door.
Well, thanks and I’ll tell Kendra!
