My Office/Craft Space In My Living Room

I’ve just made room for my office/craft space in my living room. I don’t have a second bedroom for an office or craft room, so I’m carving out a little space in here.

this Idea

Color, Color Everywhere:

No one can say that there isn’t enough color in this space. Color is everywhere along this wall in my office/craft space.

Singer Featherweight Sewing Machines:

I had my two Singer Featherweights in the closet and never saw them unless I was digging around for something. So I brought them out to look at and maybe even use.

I bought them both when I lived in Texas. Quilters prize these little beauties—or at least they did years ago when I was quilting.

They are durable workhorses. Someone who sells sewing machines told me these old ones will be around long after the newer ones bite the dust.

These old sewing machines are oldies but goodies. They don’t make them like this anymore. There isn’t a bit of plastic anywhere on these old sewing machines. And they are pretty heavy.

I purchased the black one at a sewing machine repair shop in Tyler, Texas. I ordered the white one on eBay. They cost about $350 each, I think. I love how they look in my office/craft space and in my living room.

Singer featherweights fit perfectly into a small house. Small spaces and small sewing machines go together.

A Special Painting by a Special Person:

Artist Nancy Medina created this painting for me some years ago. We met through the blogging world.

She knew I loved flowers and the color red, so she painted a red geranium canvas for me. I cherish it.

Shopping My Home:

I dug around until I found all this stuff you see in my office/craft space, now in my living room.

I bought the red-framed bulletin board from an Etsy shop when I lived in Texas. It was a neutral color when I got it, but I painted it red.

The top photo is of my youngest grandson, Andrew, on vacation. It’s one of my favorite photos of him.

The bottom photo is of a male cardinal at my patio bird feeder. I like to use my own photos to decorate when possible. The old red car in the middle is a postcard.

Shifting Things Around:

This little red bowl (a Tuesday Morning find) was in the kitchen. I brought it in here and put old photos in it. You know how much I like to move things around and repurpose them somewhere new.

My planner is below the red bowl. It’s too pretty to tuck away in a drawer somewhere. If I remember, I will jot down appointments in it! I’m kind of bad about remembering, though.

Storing Ribbon & Lace:

This basket in my office/craft space in my living room contains wide ribbon that’s hard to fit in other containers.

There’s one beige lacy glove, because I can only find one of the pair. I must have lost the other one somewhere along the way.

I’ve tied up various leftover pieces of ribbon and tucked them in the front. Ivy keeps sneaking off with them when I’m not looking. I find them everywhere, untied and strung across the floor.

Prettier Than A TV:

I’d rather look at my sewing/craft supplies than a big TV. I don’t miss it, and I don’t need extra noise.

I’m big on organization. I keep colored and regular pencils in Mason jars, and envelopes in the old rectangular box.

I’ve had the round yellow, blue, and green ceramic containers for years. I now use them to hold small office items like paper clips and push pins.

I’ve collected these red, blue, and green dresses over time. They’re adorable, and easy to hang on the wall as alternative art.

Embroidery Hoop Art:

I hung up the three red-and-white embroidery hoops I made years ago. Embroidery hoop art brightens a small area and is especially cherished because it’s handmade.

Whimsical Pin Cushions:

Did you notice that I added my cute little pincushions?

I bought several of them from an Etsy shop years ago. And one was a gift with the monogrammed first letter of my name: “B.”

Vintage Ephemera in my Office/Craft Space:

I love displaying vintage paper ephemera in my office/craft space.

Several of the vintage photos on the corkboard are actual photos I found somewhere. Probably an antique mall. I call them my “flea market relatives.”

Mason Jar Storage & Organization:

I love to store things in Mason jars. It’s great being able to see what’s inside through the glass. And anything stored in a Mason jar is just prettier!

Sorting Pencils:

I enjoy looking at my pencils in my office/craft space in my living room, which are all gathered in jars. There is a method to my color-coded madness in this office/craft space.

All the pencils are sharp and ready to use, should I figure out how to draw something other than a squiggle.

I like looking at my old Featherweight sewing machines, too. I missed them. They’re a wonderful piece of history. To me, they are works of art. A nod to the past.
