Sunday Snippets 3.10.24
This week on Sunday Snippets 3.10.24 I have various things I want to share besides what I’m watching and reading.
The funeral for my girls’ dad was Friday. Ironically it was Kasi’s husband’s birthday as well. He did much of the planning. I’m sure he wanted to take the pressure off the girls and get them past this sad event.
It is something they had to endure, and now it is in the rear-view mirror.
I was in touch with both of them Friday. They were exhausted, mentally and physically. I told them to take the weekend to de-stress and reset. I’m their only remaining parent.
It occurred to me that I’ve outlived two of my three husbands. It pains me to write that. How did I manage to make those mistakes in life? I ask myself.
Live and learn, I guess. And oh, have I learned!
Ivy:
Have I told you that Ivy has begun sitting on the end of my recliner? She didn’t do that until about a month ago. My sweet, sweet girl.
She also sleeps part of the night on the right side of my bed. Ivy is not a cuddle-bug, as you probably remember.
But she is there. And it is nice to wake up and see the shape of her right there next to me in the darkness.
Thrift Store Shopping:
My ankle has been doing better. So on Wednesday I drove three of us residents to a new thrift store. The woman who lives kind of across from me gave her car to her brother recently. She has macular degeneration and can no longer drive.
Lisa, who lives on the other side of Steve, went too. We ranged in age from 57 to 78. I was in the middle.
Only Jeanie, the oldest, found treasures that day.
Then yesterday was a hard day for Lisa. They now have her mother’s ashes. So I drove us to the Animal Aid thrift store. If you live around here, that’s a really good one, we learned!
I did purchase two items there, which I will show you sometime next week once I’ve styled them. The proceeds go to animals in need. And it is where I adopted my precious Ivy.
I think I’m going to do a new series of posts called “How I Styled It.” I will go to thrift stores, see what I can find, and style the items in my home.
A Book I Ordered:
Melanie from Comfy Home wrote about a book she read. It sounded interesting and I ordered it as well.
It’s called: “The Sound Of A Wild Snail Eating” by Elizabeth Tova Bailey and it was published in 2016.
Summary:
In a work that beautifully demonstrates the rewards of closely observing nature, Elisabeth Tova Bailey shares an inspiring and intimate story of her encounter with a Neohelix albolabris—a common woodland snail.
While an illness keeps her bedridden, Bailey watches a wild snail that has taken up residence on her nightstand. As a result, she discovers the solace and sense of wonder that this mysterious creature brings and comes to a greater understanding of her own place in the world.
Intrigued by the snail’s molluscan anatomy, cryptic defenses, clear decision making, hydraulic locomotion, and courtship activities, Bailey becomes an astute and amused observer, offering a candid and engaging look into the curious life of this underappreciated small animal.
Wisdom, however, never ages, does it? And there’s always something more to learn.
The book won quite a few awards, so I shall wade into what this author has to say about life.
What I’m Currently Reading:
I haven’t begun reading the above book yet. I’m still reading a book I began a few days ago. It is “All The Little Hopes” by Leah Weiss.
“Will break your heart, but Leah Weiss’s beautiful writing will sew it back together again” ―Wiley Cash, New York Times bestselling author
A Southern story of friendship forged by books and bees, when the timeless troubles of growing up meet the murky shadows of World War II.
I’m still watching “Breaking Bad.” I’m deep into the third season and there are five seasons.
What I’ve Ordered:
I ordered seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed company this past week. I’ve never ordered from this company before. I’ll share what I ordered this week.
I’ve wanted to order candles from Mary at White Cottage Company ever since one of you gave me her link and I began watching her channel. However I felt the shipping was a little high.
But then if I went to all that trouble making a glass candle I imagine it would cost a pretty penny to mail. It’s to protect my product and get it to me safely.
I found that if I ordered one large candle and one small one, the shipping was only about a dollar more with the second.
So I finally broke down and ordered them. I’ll show them to you when they arrive. They are in transit.
Thanks to whoever told me about Mary’s channel. Last week I probably watched 20 of her videos. Did you know that she has a total of 384 videos? She’s quickly becoming my favorite, overriding my former favorite channel.
And I’ve also begun watching a few more YouTube channels that are new to me, which I will share as well.
Daylight Savings time alert! Oh, this always confuses my brain.
I’m now signing off from Sunday Snippets 3.10.24. Lots to share this coming week!

Oh, Brenda! I somehow lost track of you somehow. I don’t know what happened or when it happened but happen it did. Then this morning this email from Bloglovin’ showed up and I clicked on a link to this Cozy Little House Blog since I’m all about cozy houses. As I looked at the first few pictures I had a little doorbell ringing in my head. Different than the lovely ones in the past but oh so attractive with how they were hung. Then I spotted a green cabinet but had to put away my iPad since I wasn’t yet showered or dressed and was expecting a drug shipment to arrive and be signed for by me.
So now much later in the day, I’d come back to further investigate this blog and looked at the lovely green cabinet with the coffee station atop it. Then it hit me… I had found Brenda from my past! A lot of time has passed under the bridge since I lost track of you and I don’t know how it happened other than I went through a long period of illness, a huge baby-sized tumor on my pancreas which ended up involving 5 other organs and a long recovery from that. Then I was finally diagnosed with Axial and Peripheral Spondylitis which put a permanent end to my teaching career. I was put on Longterm Disability by my teacher’s union until I reached retirement age at 65. The interesting thing is, although I lost my physical abilities to having to use 1 cane, then 2 canes, and finally a rollator walker, once this type of arthritis was diagnosed, I was put on a weekly injectable biologic drug, along with a low dose chemo and yet another in who knows what classification and they gave me my life back. No rollator nor canes! I walk like a teenaged girl albeit looking like a senior! 😄
I have read through some of your past blogs and of course, seen the posts regarding Abi’s and Charlie’s passing. My little black Bear finally passed just two and a half years ago, just two months shy of his 18th birthday. I see Ivy is still gracing your home but she was just a kitten when I seemed to have lost track of you. I’m glad she has taken up sleeping alongside you. We have a new puppy (what was I thinking!!) but he is the joy of my life these days. His energy keeps me outside and walking through the snow and now, the coming spring.
I can’t wait to follow you once again!

When my brother was killed, he ended up being buried on my father-in-law’s birthday…something no one was even thinking about at the time. We are so traumatized in such, it is a wonder we even survive it. But I did not try to remember the date of when he was killed, focusing instead on when it was his birthdate…so then when my fil’s day came, I just did not think about it being my brother’s funeral date. I imagine your family will at some point not think so much about it one day too. There came a time when I was happy for where my brother was, in a very good place…this world had not been a good place for him, so it was easier to think of where he is and what he is doing now, instead. I hope that will come for your girls at some point too.
Those roses in that vase or pitcher are gorgeous! Glad your ankle is allowing you to go thrifting. The snail book sounds interesting. I will have to look into this author. Thanks!
Glad you were able to get out to some thrift stores once again! Fun looking around for “treasures”, isn’t it? Last week I found a pair of jeans that fit me like a glove for less than $4. No home stuff though.
I barely remembered that book I had recommended, lol. I looked on Goodreads and saw I read it in 2020. Either you have a good memory or you wrote it down!
The book The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating sounds so interesting- will check it out!
I just looked at The White Cottage blog and it looks as if some of the candles have free shipping at this time. She mentions it as well. Just saying, maybe look into it.
I’m glad to hear that you got out a little and with friends. That’s wonderful.
Mary
She announced the free shipping just a day or so after I ordered!
If you ask, she might refund your shipping, since you were only off by one day. Love the picture of Ivy!
It’s nice to hear that you are out and about with your friends. I’m looking forward to what you will do with the thrift store finds.
It’s heartwarming to hear about Ivy’s changing patterns and her antics. Every day seems to grow sweeter and sweeter. I recently read “The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating” and thought it was a lovely story. I’m intrigued by “All The Little Hopes” and will add it to my list.
Cannot wait to see what you bought and what you do with it. Just finished one of the books you read…it was very good.. wrote down another to get at the library.. so glad you can get out some.. I love watching the videos of people buying thrift items and decorating…so fun…thanks for sharing 💕
I totally forgot about daylight savings time. My bedroom clock radio said it was my regular time for getting up (6:30 a.m.) When I got to the kitchen and turned on my laptop to listen to the news, I was shocked to see it was an hour later. Now I feel discombobulated. I’ve been watching “The High/Low Project” with Sabrina Soto for the umpteenth time on Discovery+. The series has to be at least 10 years old but I never get tired of watching it each spring. I’ll be watching “Desperate Landscapes,” “Curb Appeal: The Block,” and “I Hate My Yard” again too, to gear me up for all the yard work that needs to be done. They’re old series too but they trigger inspiration. Wondering if you found the faux carrot that Ivy snatched out of your spring/Easter display. I got a good laugh out of that!
Yes, I did find it. And put it all away. Too much temptation for her.
Thrift stores…Be still my heart. I can’t wait to see what you buy and how you decorate with your purchase. Fun ahead!!!
Hugs from Wisconsin, Bonnie
