Sunday Snippets 12.3.23
Can you believe we’re already into the month of December? Christmas will be here before we know it.
I’m still decorating for the holiday and going at my own pace.
Latest Ivy Photo:
Cats sure do sleep a lot, don’t they?
Domesticated cats have evolved. But in the wild, cats needed to sleep in order to conserve their energy to hunt, chase and kill their next meal.
Ha! Ivy just has to walk into the kitchen for her next meal.
The Gift:
I want to thank reader Becky for sending me the kitchen towels.
Many of you know that I am somewhat “directionless.” When someone tells me that a place is “east of such-and-such,” I’m usually confused.
I need those “left or right” type of directions to figure out where I’m going.
Thank you, Becky!
My MRI:
A week ago Kasi took me to get an MRI on my lower back. I was told that I’d find the results on My Chart when they were available.
However, My Chart’s site has been down.
The next morning I was reading news on my phone and discovered that there had been a big online attack of the medical system.
I still can’t access My Chart.
My doctor’s office said that they can’t see patients because they can’t access their charts.
Patients who were scheduled for surgeries were cancelled.
That’s how vulnerable we patients are to these things. Medical systems are violated because there’s so much information in our charts to access.
What I’m Watching:
The first episode of Shetland Season 8 is out. Without Jimmy (Douglas Henshall) who has moved on.
Ashley Jensen now heads up the Shetland investigatory team as new character DI Ruth Calder.
Shetland fans will miss Jimmy Perez/Douglas Henshall. I know I will. But his last role on Shetland was Season 7.
I don’t know what I think of the new woman taking his place yet. I’ll have to see a few more episodes.
What I’m Reading:
I’m reading a book called “Just The Nicest Couple” by one of my favorite authors, Mary Kubica.
Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.
Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina.
But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.
That’s so horrible about the hacking of people’s medical records! To have to cancel a surgery is unbelievable! What if it was a life threatening emergency to have that surgery done? I hope they catch whoever did this soon, so they can get back to helping their patients. Are they able to call in and authorize medicine and refills for people? I’ll never understand what makes someone CHOOSE to do the wrong thing. That wasn’t a mistake. I’m really sorry this happened to you. The towel is funny. I could get lost in a paper bag, so I know how you feel, lol. Ivy looks so cute and comfy, all sprawled out on the couch like that. I finally got my Thanksgiving decorations packed up and put away today. I even got out just a few Christmas decorations and started putting them out too. It was a productive day.
Dear Linda,
I have been following your post for many years. I also live alone like you, I’m 68, but instead a cat, I have a two-and-a-half year old Boxer. Since my husband died 10 years ago, and my family and friends live far away, I don’t leave the house much. Your post is one of the highlights of my day. I often thought of writing to you to let you know what a positive influence you are in my life, and how sorry I’m the physical pain you have to go through every day. But what held me back so far is that I’m not as good at expressing my thoughts and feelings as you are. So, I just let other people voice their appreciation, since I agree with them 100%.
What made me write to you now, is that you are thanking a reader for sending you the kitchen towels. You don’t know how often I was thinking that I would love to send you some hand-made table cloths, but I didn’t know how, since I don’t know your address. I’m originally from Hungary, and over the years, I have collected lots of hand-made stuff, thinking that I will pass it on to my children. But unfortunately, they don’t really care for them. So, I would rather you have some of them, because it would make me very happy knowing that you would appreciate them.
Well, that’s just terrifying, but not unexpected. Call me old fashioned, but paper and pencil charts don’t go missing en masse. What an awful mess…I hope you get your results soon.
Still working on decorating my Christmas tree, and a few more decor items to pull up from basement storage for kitchen decorating. It feels like I’ve been trying to decorate this year’s tree forever, but it’s nearly done now. I goofed up putting the lights on this year, and somehow ended up misplacing four boxes (FOUR!) of LED white lights that were supposed to go on the tree. The cost of LED light strands has gone up so I only ran to the Family Dollar (3 blocks away from the house) and bought one box of 100 lights to finish the top of the tree (almost). The tree is under-lit this year. I found the additional four boxes – 2 boxes in one larger box of decorations and 2 boxes in a second box of decorations after I’d already begun putting ornaments on the tree. I have no idea how that happened, I thought I reorganized everything last year and labeled everything too! But the tree will just stay underlit, I’m not taking all the decorations already on it off and totally redraping the lights! I read about that ransomware attack on the hospital network in Tulsa, it happened on Thanksgiving Day. According to the latest info I could find, nobody seems to know (or they’re not letting the information out) about when the system will go back online. Imagine attacking a medical network’s computer system where life and death issues are at stake – absolutely disgusting and I hope Homeland Security tracks down the hackers and busts them. We’ve had some success doing so in the recent past against other hackers and recovering ransom money paid by “bit coin” transactions online.
How distressing to learn medical systems have been compromised and even surgery cancelled. We’ve become too dependent on computers and storage of records that I can’t understand why writing out by hand has become so obsolete and here’s a problem now. Hope you can get your results soon. Enjoy your Sunday.
Happy Sunday to you and Ivy Lou!
Well, Ivy has the best idea for this time of year!! Sleeping!! This year has flown by, with so many problems and issues to deal with…I surely hope things slow down and its a better year!! I am so sorry to hear about the loss of the medical system…is it only in your area or is it ALL My Charts? We used to have that on West Coast but here its a different one. Oh well…technology is far from perfect and these days such may be intentional, rather than a mistake. Take care…sure hope someone can help you!! I copy off all records that I can and file it away. I have NEVER trusted in internet…somehow the only way to be sure you might have access to something is to make hard copy.
Love your pics of Ivy, she looks completely exahusted, or dear little fluffs lead a rough life. I’m with you on the towels, perfect! If my car didn’t have a compass in the rear view mirror, I’d be lost…..Loving your Christmas decorations, it’s only the 3rd. Today is cookie day,at least a few batches and few friends coming over to watch the 49ers beat the Eagles,,fingers crossed…..have a great week, and hope the hack gets resolved, so frustrating…..
