This week in Sunday Snippets 9.14.25…
Maggie Update:
It’s now been one week since Kendra, Scott, and Maggie fortuitously met in front of the magnolia tree.

This is a photo of Maggie lying against my arm at Kendra’s house. She never left my side while I was on babysitter duty on Thursday.

This is a photo of Maggie sitting on Marley’s bed. (I ordered the Laura Ashley quilt set for Marley’s bed a few months ago.)
Maggie (Magnolia) is such a sweet and pretty cat. She’s fitting into Kendra’s medley of pets (four now) really well. This poor kitty needed a home and love. Lots of love surrounds Maggie now.
Dental Pain:
I haven’t been able to skip one pain pill since I had the dental work done a week ago Friday. Usually, even if I’ve had surgery, I only take the prescribed pain pills for a day or so. But this dental work is really kicking my butt.
The antibiotic makes me sick to my stomach, and thankfully, I finished taking them last night. I’ve finished taking the steroids, also. I’m scared to try to eat on that side of my mouth because I worry I’ll get food stuck in the opening of the bridge work. Or it will make the pain worse than it already is.
Movies I’ve Watched This Week:
Inside Man (2006)
What It’s About:
This Spike Lee movie is about a tough cop, Detective Frazier (Denzel Washington), who matches wits with a clever bank robber, Dalton (Clive Owen). As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madeleine (Jodie Foster).
She is a power broker with a hidden agenda who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation.
The cast also includes Willem Dafoe and Christopher Plummer.
I watched Inside Man on Netflix.

Unfaithful (2002)
What It’s About:
Starring Richard Gere, Diane Lane, and Olivier Martinez, the film follows Edward and Connie Sumner (Gere and Lane), a couple living in the suburbs of New York City. Their marriage is jeopardized when the wife has an affair with a stranger (Martinez) she encounters by chance.
I watched Unfaithful on Amazon Prime Video.

Ben Is Back (2018)
What It’s About:
Nineteen-year-old Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges) unexpectedly returns to his family’s suburban home on Christmas Eve. Ben’s mom, Holly (Julia Roberts), is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son’s drug addiction.
Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother’s undying love gets put to the test. Holly does everything she can to keep Ben clean. The cast includes Lucas Hedges and Courtney B. Vance.
I watched Ben Is Back on Amazon Prime Video.
Actor Lucas Hedges:

I am very impressed with 28-year-old Lucas Hedges. The movie Ben Is Back is a gripping story about drug addiction, making it well worth watching.
Hedges’ family all worked in the entertainment industry. His mother is the actress and poet Susan Bruce. And his father is Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and director Peter Hedges. Peter Hedges is best known for writing the Oscar-nominated screenplay for About a Boy.
A few weeks ago, I first watched Lucas Hedges in the movie Boy Erased. I don’t recall watching him in anything before that. Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman played his parents in the film.
This movie is based on the 2016 book Boy Erased: A Memoir, by Garrard Conley. The memoir recounts the author’s childhood in a fundamentalist Arkansas family that enrolled him in conversion therapy.
His maternal grandmother, Narcissa Titman, is a former theater director and lecturer. And his father’s father is the former vice president of HBO.
At just 20 years old, Hedges became the eighth-youngest person to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. If he had won, he would have been the youngest winner ever in that category (alas, he did not).
The Series I’m Watching: The Wire

What It’s About:
This series looks at the narcotic scene in Baltimore through the eyes of law enforcers as well as the drug dealers and users. Other facets of the city explored in the series include the government and bureaucracy, schools, and the news media.
I’m watching The Wire on HBO/Max. It’s one of my grandson’s favorite shows.
The Book I’m Reading:

What It’s About:
Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger’s syndrome. He’s hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, though he is brilliant in many ways. But he has a special focus on one subject—forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes, and he’s always showing up and telling the cops what to do. And he’s usually right.
But when a terrible murder rocks Jacob’s small hometown, law enforcement comes to him. Jacob’s behaviors are hallmark Asperger’s, but they look a lot like guilt to the local police. Suddenly, the Hunt family, who only want to fit in, are directly in the spotlight.
For Jacob’s mother, Emma, it’s a brutal reminder of the intolerance and misunderstanding that constantly threaten her family. For his brother, Theo, it’s another indication of why nothing is normal because of Jacob.
There is the soul-searing question: Did Jacob commit murder?
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Sunday Snippets for 9.14.25.

Maggie loves you ! So sweet to read about her. Hope you’re feeling better, dental work no fun. I’m having a root canal the end of the month & not looking forward to it
I hope each day you feel a bit better; dental pain is no fun! So glad Maggie is doing good. Unfaithful was one of those movies that I gasped out loud (when the murder happens it makes you understand how something that could so happen spontaneously — so horribly). that was an intense movie, for sure.
Awww, sweet little Maggie! It’s the other cat starting to be nicer and more accepting now? I hope so. She really is a beautiful kitty. I’m sorry your mouth is still hurting. I hope it starts to feel better soon!
Kendra said the cats hiss at each other right now. So she keeps close watch over Maggie when she’s home, and puts her in a separate bedroom when she’s gone.
So awful to live in such pain…sure hope you feel better soon!!
It’s letting up a little. Still have to take meds, but I’m sure as time goes by, it will calm down.
So sorry for the pain you’re having. I had oral surgery September 3rd and will go this coming Wednesday to get the stitches out. Yay! Hope you’re feeling better soon
Mine were disposable stitches. I wish you good luck!
Sending healthy vibes your way, hope your dental pain goes away soon.
Me too. And the allergens are awful in the air here right now, to add to it.
I’m sorry about your dental pain.
Kendra said when she had all that dental work done last year that it hurt for six months. So I guess I shouldn’t gripe.
Maggie is adorable and her story really tugs at my heart. Like they say, who rescued who? Pets bring such joy to our lives! Wishing you pain free days ahead. Have a good week everyone!
Just one week ago, we’d never known this sweet cat. Now she’s part of the family!
