Sunday Snippets 4.21.24
Today in Sunday Snippets 4.21.24…
Aren’t the red leaves on my Japanese Maple tree gorgeous?
Ivy needs her rest. She is doing what she does best. Arranging herself in cute positions to snooze. On a soft blanket or throw of course.
The plan today is for both my daughters and my granddaughter to come for lunch.
If I’m up to it, they’re going to take me to the outdoor nursery just down the street. I’m looking forward to that, as I haven’t visited a nursery yet this year.
I’ve been in a lot of pain this week. Both my back and ankle have been very problematic. I haven’t got much done at all because the only comfortable position I can find is my chair.
I hope to be able to have plant pots around the patio. I sure miss seeing flowers out there this time of year.
I’ve been looking at photos of my old apartment. I had some really nice plants on that fenced in patio.
Going Back In Time…
I’ve loved the color yellow all my life. Yellow flowers almost beg to be picked for a bouquet. This color is just so cheerful.
These are my old photos of pansies and petunias and daisies. I love all flowers. But I kind of have a special place in my heart for both yellow and purple flowers.
There’s something about the combination of yellow and purple that pleases me. In all shades.
The Purples:
There are quite a few of shades of purple petunias I’ve found and planted over the years.
And there’s the purple heliotrope. It fills out as it grows and takes up a fair amount of space.
The fountain grass was luxurious. The purple sweet potato vine would grow quickly and send out long runners.
An allium has little round globes of color. And there’s another petunia I had to have when I could find it. Yellow petunias striped with purple. The perfect combination.
I haven’t seen the yellow with purple striped petunias at a nursery for some time.
And the vegetables I grew in pots on that patio were so delicious. One meal I always enjoyed was bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches.
The cucumbers were a delight to slice and serve for supper. And I gave the peppers away because they cause me indigestion. However I love to grow them.
I had more sun at my old apartment. Not to mention a handy water source. I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor in my patio garden.
Now I’m anxious to get my hands in the dirt and start planting my containers.
What I’m Watching:
I’m watching the fourth season of “Better Call Saul.” The fifth season leads to the end of the series. There are 63 episodes total.
What I’m Reading:
I’m reading “Cold Cold Heart” by Tami Hoag.
Struggling with the torment of post-traumatic stress syndrome, plagued by flashbacks and nightmares, Dana returns to her hometown in an attempt to begin to put her life back together. But home doesn’t provide the comfort she expects.
Dana’s harrowing story and her return to small-town life have rekindled police and media interest in the unsolved case of her childhood best friend, Casey Grant, who disappeared without a trace the summer after their graduation from high school. Terrified of truths long buried, Dana reluctantly begins to look back at her past.
Viewed through the dark filter of PTSD, old friends and loved ones become suspects and enemies. Questioning everything she knows, refusing to be defined by the traumas of her past, Dana seeks out a truth that may prove too terrible to be believed.

I am so sorry you are dealing with chronic pain. I hope that you enjoyed your lunch with your family and that you were able to go to the nursery. I know how much you miss your flowers and plants.
Brenda hello, hope the weekend has been good—Brenda, a while back you had a post about using two sheets instead of a duvet cover on the bed, I have tried to retreave it but have had no luck—-if you think about it, please post it again—thank you sooooo much — haydee
There’s a search feature at the top of this blog. I found this post. Maybe it’s the one you’re thinking of?

Yes, your Japanese maple is so beautiful with all those red leaves! And I love any picture of Ivy! She is just the cutest! It makes me so happy that you’re going to spend the day with your family. That’s so important. Good for the soul. Hopefully you’ll feel good enough to go to the nursery and pick out something fun and pretty. I can’t wait to see what you get! The flowers from your past are so pretty. I agree yellow and purple are a pretty color combination. I’m partial to purple. You can never have too much purple, lol!
Here are some you tube videos for days you are hurting…Thrilled Thrifter and Flea Market Rescue…both so good…hope you 😉 enjoy…we still have frost up here in Wi…enjoy your family today…💕
How do you start a sweet potato vine plant? I have never had one and the picture of yours is so pretty.
Hope you are up to going to the nursery!
I buy them at the plant nursery.
My mother had kidney disease and as it progressed, she would get terrible pain in her back. She used Lidocaine patches that would give her relief, pain free, for several hours. When she was hospitalized at the last, the nurses put the patches on for her, they used them at the hospital to relieve pain just like Mom’s doctor told her to use them at home. Perhaps something to discuss with your doctor or physical therapist. They won’t hurt and maybe they can help. You can buy them at Walgreens, Amazon, Walmart, etc. There are also lidocaine ointments that might work to help relieve pain in your ankle.
I ‘m hoping you feel well enough to have a special day with your daughters and granddaughters!
Ivy is adorable. Wishing you a wonderful, pain free day of good family time, good food and plants!
Hi Brenda, I read your post everyday even though I rarely comment. This is a bit off subject but I have thought about you and the pain you are dealing with..I recently broke my foot.( waited until I was in my 60’s to break something lol)..My best friend broke her ankle 2 weeks prior.Serious injury 2 surgeries already..Anyway she decided to try in home Red light therapy. At her suggestion I am trying it too…It is amazing.. I use the light at 15-30 min intervals and apply frankensense oil after…I am usually pain free for around 12 hrs.We now have others using it with awesome results..I just wanted to suggest you check into it.. Thanks for your daily post..I so enjoy them…have a great day.🙂 ps.the light can be purchased on Amazon.
I’ll be checking that out! Thanks!
I ordered one.
Your patio in the old place was very pretty…but you have made beauty there where you are too!! So sorry you are still in so much pain…it is horrible to live in constant pain (both Hubby and I have in the past, but since we got here and had some laser treatments, it has helped so very much and we are grateful…but getting old is no easy thing!!) Have a wonderful time with your daughters and granddaughter!!
Good morning Brenda,
It sounds like you have a wonderful day planned with your daughters. I hope that you are up to a trip to the nursery. How wonderful to stroll the aisles and stock your cart with colorful blooms.
Your garden was beautiful and an inspiration to me! I do not have a green thumb but I have loved learning from you!
I hope that your back and ankle are feeling better, I realize it has been painful for sometime, but hopefully you will find some relief.
HAve a great day!
