This week in Sunday Snippets 12.7.25….

It’s been cold outside! It went from hot weather to freezing weather really fast. We didn’t have much of a fall season. So I’ve been huddling in the living room with my little electric stove in the fireplace alcove. And I sure enjoy that little stove.

New Kittens:

Smitty next door said the cat brought her kittens to him yesterday. They’re about 4-6 weeks old, he thinks. He’s trying to tame them enough to get them inside their house till they can be fixed and adopted. There are two black kittens and one striped on his front porch.

I haven’t seen them. Their porch is hard for me to maneuver because there isn’t a railing to hold onto like I have here.

They thought the barely adult kitten that is the mother had been fixed. That’s what the vet told them anyway when they took her in. The mother kitten belonged to an older woman who died, and then the kitten became wild outdoors.

Sadly, people don’t get their pets spayed, so they end up with litter after litter of homeless cats. Smitty and his wife catch as many as they can and have them spayed.

But people keep moving into the neighborhood who bring cats, and they aren’t as diligent about being responsible for them.

A Movie I Watched:

Netflix

I watched a movie on Netflix called I Smile Back. “I Smile Back” is a 2015 drama film starring Sarah Silverman as Laney Brooks, a seemingly happy suburban wife and mother.

She struggles with deep depression, self-medicating with drugs, and alcohol. This leads to a self-destructive spiral that threatens her family.

The movie explores themes of mental illness, addiction, and the facade of perfection. It’s based on Amy Koppelman’s novel of the same name. It focuses on Laney’s internal battle to find meaning while succumbing to destructive behaviors.

What I’m Watching:

I finished watching three seasons of Absentia on Netflix.

Playing Gracie Darling

Paramount+

I am watching a 6-series show called “Playing Gracie Darling” on Netflix. “Playing Gracie Darling” is a new Australian supernatural thriller on Netflix.

It’s about a child psychologist named Joni Grey. She returns to her hometown decades after her best friend, Gracie, vanished during a séance.

The mystery reignites when another young girl disappears while playing a game reenacting the same séance. It forces Joni to confront her traumatic past, fragmented memories, and the possibility that the events were either supernatural or a human crime.

What I’m Reading:

Amazon

I just finished reading The Intruder by Freida McFadden on my Kindle.

Summary

Casey’s cabin in the wilderness is not built for a hurricane. Her roof shakes, the lights flicker, and the tree outside her front door sways ominously in the wind. But she’s a lot more worried about the girl she discovers lurking outside her kitchen window.

She’s young. She’s alone. And she’s covered in blood.

The girl won’t explain where she came from or loosen her grip on the knife in her right hand. And when Casey makes a disturbing discovery in the middle of the night, things take a turn for the worse.

What I’m Now Reading:

Run on Red

Now I’m reading Run On Red via Kindle Unlimited. It’s an excellent book if you like on-the-edge-of-your-seat mystery thrillers. I read half the book in one sitting.

Summary

By the time Laura and Olivia notice the headlights tailing them through the hills, it’s too late. What seems like a case of road rage quickly unfolds into a heart-pounding chase and a battle for survival.

Who are the men in the truck? What do they want? And can Laura and Olivia outrun—and outsmart—them long enough to call for help, even if it means taking their chances in the hills on foot?

As their situation grows more perilous, the girls realize that the absolute terror has only just begun. But flight won’t save them from their pursuers. If they’re going to make it home alive, they’ll have to fight.

***

Kendra’s patio addition is finally being built. They’ve found room in their schedule for this project, though she probably won’t get to enjoy it until springtime. I’ll show you photos when it’s built.

I’m enjoying my tabletop Christmas tree, which I showed you decorated the other day. It’s so cozy to sit here with the lights glowing. There’s something about cold, gray days and Christmas tree lights that appeals to me.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of Sunday Snippets.

  1. That’s so sweet that the mama cat trusts your neighbor with her babies. Hopefully they can earn her trust and encourage them to stay indoors. I’m looking forward to seeing Kendra’s porch once it gets finished. Enjoy your cozy home!

  2. It has been cold here in PA, we had snow the other day and looks like more for later in the week going down to 13 at night. It is no surprise that Kassie my Husky loves it, she spends all day on the porch. How is Magnolia/Maggie doing?
