It’s just another wild kitten morning here. Ivy doesn’t remember it, but she was once this wild, too.

In Wild Kitten Morning,

Simon has one of those red-and-white gingham curtain ties and is all but bouncing off the walls. I wish I could figure out what it is about those things that makes him act so crazed.

I thought maybe it was the red color, but when I looked that up, it said cats see blues, greens, and grays best. So it remains a mystery.

If I have the recliner reclined and can’t see him, I know instinctively if he is playing with that curtain tie. Because he jumps higher, flips over more, and generally acts like he’s hopped up on some drug.

Something about that gingham curtain tie makes him act up something fierce. He runs faster, jumps higher, and chirps more.

Knee Pain:

Somehow, I’ve messed up the space below my right knee. I’m getting around with a cane.

Greg told me to stay off of it. Of course, that’s easier said than done. It started a few weeks ago, and steadily, the pain has gotten worse. I now have ice on it.

He sent me a link to an Amazon brace I ordered. When I finally found a measuring tape like the ones they use for sewing, I could measure and order one. Then, the kittens absconded with the tape. I’ll be lucky ever to find that again.

Greg said it’s probably something with the meniscus, and if the pain doesn’t go away, I might have to get it X-rayed.

Well, that’s almost laughable. Right now, I doubt I could drive and walk from the parking lot across the street to my doctor’s office. So it wouldn’t be right away.

In Wild Kitten Morning,

It’s Just Another Wild Kitten Morning:

Simon is now chasing Daisy up and down the cat tree. Speaking of cat trees, another one was delivered in a big box this morning from Wayfair. I found that they now sell the sturdy brand I like.

I’ll have to wait until Kendra can come over to help me get that box inside.

I guess I can now be considered that old woman with the three cats who spoil them rotten. Oh, but it’s their reward for being so entertaining. And so surely they won’t fight as much over the one they already have.

What do you think Ivy thinks: Mama, what are those silly kittens doing down there now?

Birds:

Flocks of birds have been flying onto the porch. They barely light before they fly upward, and in one fell swoop, they are gone. What’s that about? Does anyone know?

Speaking of birds, Kasi brought one of those Kong laser pointers for the cats. It’s a bird that chirps. It speaks Simon’s language, but he’s terrified of it. When the toy bird chirps, he runs from the room.

Daisy is now chasing shadows on the wall. What a mad house it is around here. There’s never a dull moment these days.

Mark Twain & Cats:

Mark Twain was a lifelong lover of animals, particularly cats and dogs, and he wrote about animals throughout his writing career.

His first national success, “The Jumping Frog,” included a variety of animals. In his last decade, he wrote works on behalf of animal rights, including “A Dog’s Tale” and “A Horse’s Tale.”

Late in his life, he was a prominent spokesman for animal rights and against vivisection (the use of live animals in scientific research). He called man “the lowest animal,” but his regard for and interest in other animals never wavered.

  1. I love the picture of all 3 cats on the cat tree, LOOKING at you!! That’s an amazing picture! I am really loving all of the posts about your cats! Ivy is doing a good job of tolerating their playful activities. I can’t wait for her to totally accept them and get in on the silly action. I’m sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it starts to feel better real soon. I’m so glad Greg is still with you.

  2. My! how the kittens have grown! I can remember from my “kitty” days how much fun they are to watch and how everything has to be put away or it’s fair game for them. So glad you have them and they are such a joy.

  3. I always look forward to your posts . Especially about the kittens. I’m sad to say I haven’t seen Chub the outdoor cat since the last week of January. 🙁 if only she would have wanted to come in. Theres a couple other feral cats hanging around .

I well remember Mark Twain writing about giving a cat some catnip and his aunt’s reaction to that…laughed my head off. Truly animals are the funniest of creatures. Glad you are having a good time. Here is a link to the little machine that makes my life bearable…and even some days are good, if I can not overuse my knee…it has paid for itself over and over again. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPFSQ51K?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 To go have a similar red light therapy done at the doctors is $70 each…and I use this machine every morning and other times if it hurts. Can’t recommend it any higher!! GREAT HELP!!

  5. I tore both the meniscus in my knees some years ago digging up a new garden area. I had surgery on both knees to repair them. It has been about years since then and now I’ve had my left knee replaced. The best advice I can give is rest and ice. After it’s better do your best to build up the muscles around the knee. That helps to hold off pain. Knee replacement is hard!
Love the antics of those kittens! I bet they are quite entertaining!

  6. Simon and Daisy are already looking like teenagers. I wish the kitten phase lasted longer.

  7. I am loving all the crazy kitten antics and Ivy’s tolerating all of it! Such funny tales you tell. Keep it up!
I adore your new home. I have forgotten what the kitchen looks like so hope we get some new pictures of that. Your rooms are so fascinating to me because I love your decorating style!!
Hope the knee responds to the brace. I have seen folks with a band that velcros under the bottom of the knee that seems to help stabilize that. I think knees act up sometimes if one twists to the right or left (sideways) instead of walking straight on. Jane in Florida

    1. I have never before had knee pain. I hope this is a one-off.

  8. My favorite Mark Twain quote has always been: “If you find a starving dog and make him prosperous he will not bite you. That is the difference between dogs and men.”…….amen, brother! We all know that’s true!
I love how Ivy has gradually accepted (or at least tolerated!) her new siblings. I suppose it remains a mystery why she never warmed to Gracie. Maybe she’s “done the math” here and decided two are probably more than she wants to take on. I like her look of “what next from you two?”
I hope your leg pain heals by itself just by staying off of it for a bit.

    1. Ivy has decided that the canned adult food I purchased for her no longer meets her expectations and refuses to eat it. She has done this each time I’ve started giving her canned food. She will eat it for a while and then turn her nose up at it. Now, she wants the kitten food. What to do with this picky cat?

  9. Chasing shadows on the wall. Made me laugh out loud. Thanks for posting all the “crazies” of the cats. They are more fun and silly than anything else to read about.

    1. I am no longer surprised at anything these kittens do. Particularly Simon. Earlier I caught him chewing on the wood of the fireplace mantel before I could get him down.
