Today I’ve chosen 5 table lamps I’d choose for my home if I needed another lamp, which I truly don’t. But that does not stop me from looking and sometimes buying!
I have wondered over the years why I am so obsessed with lamps. If I have a collection in my home, it surely must be lamps.

When my daughters come over, they always tend to turn the overhead lights on. And that’s even when I have my table lamps on. I can’t figure out why they do this.
Wouldn’t you rather have more intimate light from a lamp than a glaring light from an overhead fixture?
Neither one of them tend to buy lamps either. Which once again I can’t figure out. Lamps are part of the design of the room. But neither one of them is interested in lamps.
There should be lamps in every room. I even have small lamps in the kitchen and bathrooms. You won’t walk into any of my rooms and not find at least one lamp.
My Lamp Obsession:
My lamp obsession started young. I can remember in my twenties I walked into a furniture store and saw a big round-shaped navy blue lamp. And I recall being absolutely smitten.
There were two of these navy lamps. They had white pleated shades. I just had to have those lamps.
Somewhere over the years I did away with them. They take up a good amount of space. They were probably at least 26 inches from the base of the lamp to the top of the shade.
Thus began my lamp obsession.
At this point in my life, some forty years later, I think I’m fairly good at picking out lamps that will endure and go along with any changes in my decorating.
I’m going to show you 5 lamps that I would choose for my own home.
Partphoner Table Lamps:
These lamps have all the bells and whistles of being able to charge your phone. I don’t care so much about that.
I’m looking at the lamp, the texture of the lamp, the shape and design of the lamp.
These Partphoner table lamps are 22.6 inches tall. The two of them are under $85.
I’m always asking myself: Would this lamp look nice in any room of my home, should I decide to switch them? This means you get more bang for your buck.
Bobomomo 3-way Dimmable Lamps:
This Bobomomo 3-way dimmable set of table lamps with touch control could fit into most any room, whether it be decorated in the farmhouse, cottage, or even modern style.
They would also fit into the neutral category.
This set of lamps are 24.5 inches tall and are right at $90.
Luvkczc Set Of 2 Lamps:
This set of two black lamps are three way and dimmable. The shade is premium linen fabric.
They say that every room needs something black in it because black brings a touch of class and elegance to a space. I black consider a neutral.
This set of lamps are 22 inches high and just under $70.
Bohomomo Tradition 20.5″ Rustic Table Lamps:
These 20.5 inch tall antique white resin based farm style table lamps have a nice shape with a linen shade. The two of them are under $60.
It says that the lampshades must be put together. I’ve had one of those before. You just wrap it around the shade.
These two lamps will fit most anywhere.
Vintage Gray Lamps:
This set of vintage gray lamps also have a pleasing shape to the base. The two lamps are 17.5 inches tall and just under $80.
They’re a little on the small side, but really caught my attention for some reason. I think it was the shape and the gray on brown paint color.
These 5 table lamps I’d choose for my home, and they are all under $100 for two lamps.
Safavieh Table Lamps:
Below are the two lamps I purchased for my dining room last year. I love these lamps.
These two lamps are from the SAFAVIEH Lighting Collection and are a bit taller than the other ones at 26 inches.
They are just under $117, but they are truly elegant lamps that have a wonderful sparkle to them with or without light.
How Do You Figure Out How Many Lamps You Need?
Most designers agree that you need more than one source of light in a room. Think layered illumination. Every room should have a mix of lighting, including overhead, accent and task lights.
The lampshade should be at eye level when you are seated, or so they say. I don’t follow rules, so I guess this is a rule that professional decorators use.
If your lamp is a bit short, just add books underneath until you have it at the height you desire.
I think adding books underneath add a nice element to the room anyway.
The room you are decorating is yours and use your own judgement on this.

I mostly avoid my overhead lighting, and much prefer the glow of table lamps. The first and lost of the lamps you show are the ones I’d chooie for my own home.
I am not a fan of overhead lighting either and find it so harsh and irritating. I much prefer lamplight. Just the word lamplight sounds lovely to me. I also have some antiques and live in an older homes (1953), so the only overhead lights are in fans–one of which I will eventually replace. They existed before I moved in. I notice that when the fix/flips come in they immediately put in overhead lights, even in the living rooms. When the light is super bright like that it bothers my eyes. Like Melanie above I have sensory issues. The only room that I think overhead bright lights are needed is in the kitchen. I really love art lamps, but I cannot afford them. I found a unique unvarnished brass and glass lamp, but it was out of my price range. I’ve always loved stained glass and gravitate to the craftsmen style. I like the roundup you have, although I don’t need to charge my phone. Like Jan I love candlelight, especially in fall and winter–it creates a warming cozy feel.
I need some help using more lamps. We have a large open concept living room, so the furniture isn’t against the walls and there are no outlets in the floor so I can only use a few lamps several feet away from the sofa and chairs. I have an end table(thrifted) at the end of the sofa with absolutely nothing on it!
I love your lamps Brenda and would gladly order some if I could figure out how to use them.
I love this idea:

Years ago, we had 3 beautiful lamps that were of a similar style to the couch, etc. and after we had kids, 2 of them bit the dust being glass did not do well falling down, even though our kids did not damage anything else and these were accidents…and eventually the 3rd one suffered the same fate. I have not had anything wonderful in that arena since. Seems not to matter anymore. I do think however, it can make a lovely statement about the style one loves. I enjoy seeing your ideas!!
I’m not a fan of overhead lights either. I have lamps in every room in my home (yes, bathrooms and kitchen included). A couple of months ago I purchased a set of lamps for my bedroom. In the corner of the room I have a small table next to a chair so one of the old lamps is now residing there. The other is now at home in the spare bedroom. The lamps, Cooper and I are happy with the change. LOL
I have found some of my best lamps at the local thrift stores. I think people use overhead light more now so they just donate lamps much to my benefit. I like to change them out depending on seasons cause winter I have more lights on in different rooms of my house.
So glad to hear someone else prefers lamps as opposed to the overhead what I call Hollywood lighting. I too hv lamps older than 50 years. Only problem, the lamps today are way too short if u like to sit on the sofa and read. My older lamps are 30” or taller. I hv to put these short lamps on pedestals to be able to comfortably read as they only cast light on the sofa arm!!
I hear ya! Next to my chair, where I am queen, I have a good standing lamp.
I am not a fan of overhead lighting, I find it harsh, perhaps because I spent 46 years working under overly bright office lighting and am SO glad I no longer have to labor away under fluorescent lighting. I have ceiling lights (in ceiling fans) in two of the bedrooms in my 1956 ranch style home that were there when I bought the place and I haven’t replaced, but I prefer to use lamps. I removed an overly large ceiling fan with old fashioned “country” style lights from my bedroom, shortly after I moved in (2014), and covered the opening over with a ceiling medallion. I don’t read in bed or in my bedroom, or put make-up on (rare event since I retired 8 years ago) in my bedroom, so I’ve only got two small lamps in it, enough for me. I’ve got a collection of lamps that are 5-50 plus years old that I’ve collected since 1969 when I moved out of my family home and into my first apartment, and rotate many of them out depending on season and the design I put into my primary rooms. Others are just stashed in the basement storage areas as my taste has changed over the years. I could donate them, and probably should, but my frugal upbringing makes me hold on to things for many years, and I’ve had the experience of finally parting with something that I held on to for years, only to discover six months later that I needed exactly what I’d given away, LOL. I rotate my favorite lamps in the living room as I change the decor during the four seasons. I don’t have space to put a small lamp in the bathroom, but I’ve got small countertop lamps in my kitchen and with the stove light I prefer to use them when cooking instead of the overhead lights. As I’ve gotten older, I like candle light, especially in the winter. It makes me feel cozy.
I do the very same thing! Give something away and before I know it I need it.
What a great selection of lamps!
I like the lamps I bought that are pretty and sparkly because they are tall enough to give good light over the dining room.
Like you, I’m not a fan of overhead lighting. I’d much rather have soft lamplight. I think that’s because I have sensory issues (I’m a Highly Sensitive Person).
There’s an independent store in Chicago that brings in the most beautiful vintage and unique furniture ahd home accessories (Praha 2201 W Belmont, if anyone is interested). I follow them on IG and a few days ago, they posted a photo of a lamp they had for sale. The shade had blue hand-stitched flowers (large) on it. I was in love! But I don’t have anywhere to put it.
I looked that lamp up. It is lovely and so unique. You should look a little harder. There must be SOMEPLACE in your house you could squeeze it in, lol! I mean, where do you ever see that kind of lampshade that is embroidered like that! It’d be a great conversation piece. 😊
Well, I store lamps in my closets! And rotate them.
Personally, I like bright light. When I turn on a light, I want it to feel like I’ve just turned on the sun! 🌞
Then you and my daughters would get along great.
I like overhead lights on too when it’s dreary out but I have lamps that I put on at night bc it saves on electricity. I have a few chandeliers that I put on occasionally esp in my dining room bc it cheers me up.
Nice choices of lamps Brenda! I’ll have to show my daughter bc she’s borrowing one of mine. Lol
