This is my book review of Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston, author of First Lie Wins, A Reese Book Club pick.

Book Summary:
Who is Camille Bayliss, and why does she desperately want to leave her husband, Ben, a well-heeled, handsome attorney?
Camille Bayliss
She had red lips, wore designer heels, and sat at Chantilly’s Bar sipping a Negroni. Everyone thought she was out-of-towner Camille Bayliss. But it wasn’t. It was a woman named Aubrey Price.
Camille Bayliss has a charmed life, or so it seems. A picture-perfect life, married to a hotshot lawyer, from a very wealthy family. One she’s tried for years to separate herself from.
Her husband, Ben, has his own dirty secrets, but she hasn’t been able to find any proof in order to leave him.
Aubrey Price
Then there’s Aubrey Price. She has been haunted by the night when her parents were killed by a drunk driver. Aubrey was just a teenager. She thinks attorney Benjamin Bayliss knows something about what happened to them, something that he’s hiding. And she is desperate to know what it is.
Aubrey lives in a house full of criminals, so she understands that there’s more than one way to get to the truth. She wants to know what happened on the worst night in her life, who the person was who took her beloved parents from her.
Camille and Aubrey meet up and hatch a plan together. For twelve hours, Aubrey will stand in as Camille, dress like her, act like her, shop like her. While she’s away, Camille will have the opportunity to spy on her husband, Ben. Then, if things go according to plan, the two women will finally have the answers they’re seeking.
Except something unexpected happens. Ben is found murdered the next morning by Camille when she enters her home. The two women need an alibi, and only one of them has it. Will they still be able to follow through with some of their plan despite Ben’s murder?
My Thoughts:
The two women had a good plan. If things had been different, it would have worked. But they didn’t expect Ben to be murdered. Now they have new questions to answer.
The book was interesting, and the two main characters were well portrayed. Aubrey is a fighter, having had a completely different life from the rich Camille. She’s faced adversity before and can deal with it. Camille has been sheltered.
Anatomy of an Alibi was a fast-paced and suspenseful novel.
