Getting A Lot Done In The New Apartment
A lot has been accomplished in this apartment in 4 days. It makes me happy to look around and see things begin to normalize.
I’ve just about turned this place upside down looking for my camera bag. I know I saw it once, but I’ve covered just about every square inch 2-3 times and can’t find it now.
I had a little area I was going to photograph to show you. If I manage to find it, I’ll post it later today.
Kasi Brought Lunch:
Kasi came over and brought lunch from Olive Garden. Then I put her to work. We’ve opened nearly every box and she broke them down and took them to the dumpster.
The second bedroom is the room now that needs the most work done. Things are all over the place in there.
Kasi moved a piece of furniture for me. (You know those spurts of inspiration you get that turns on a light bulb in your head? Well, one suddenly lit up for me.)
This home is going to feature a lot of cottage style and some boho decor. I’m thinking floral paintings and white pitchers and quilts. More color, but not overwhelming.
I’m not hanging any quilts on the wall. That’s a job that’s too hard for me now with the stepladder. But you will see them here and there.
Teri arranged the patio where it looks cozy. Thanks, Teri, for all that you do! I owe you big time.
The Kitties On Day 5:
Ivy still hisses occasionally at Gracie. But this morning I woke up to find them chasing one another throughout the apartment.
One would hide behind something. The other would walk slowly into the room low and slow.
Then boom! Out comes the hiding cat and chases the lurking cat. Then the kitties begin their game all over again.
This made me ever so happy to watch them. I just laid in bed so as not to startle them and watched the kitty show take place.
Ivy has been up to the top of her cat tower in front of my bedroom patio doors. So she’s getting back to normal.
They’re both eating well now.
I’m happy here. And relaxed.
Yes, I can hear the TV and other noises around me sometimes. But the way I look at it is: I’m among old folks like me, and some can’t hear well. But it beats the hell out of worrying about snakes falling from the ceiling vents!
The neighbors are friendly. I doubt a snake would be so considerate.
Oh, I’m SO looking forward to decorating this place! It’s so exciting to begin recreating a home with familiar objects.
But I’m going to go buggy if I can’t find that camera today. I’ve never been this long without my camera.
Such great news. I am so happy that this place is off to a good start!!!!! Glad the kitties are settling in!!!! Can’t wait to see how you decorate…probably the best part of moving, right?
I have a young couple living above me and hear them walking around. I’m used to it now and find it somewhat comforting.
“i’m happy here” — those are the best three words in the entire post! So happy for you, Brenda!
So glad things are going better for you at your new home, and that you have supportive Family to help you get there. Wonderful the kitties have bonded it sounds like..they are happy to have some new territory to share and explore and are feeling at home..just like you now. :0) Nice.
😊 Ohhhh my goodness!!! I was thrilled to read your blog Brenda! Have been thinking about Ivy & Gracie and what’s been happening in your new apartment.
All the news you updated is so very welcome!!! Was happy and excited for your sweet kitties!!! Sure hope this is the beginning of a great ❤ sisterhood!!! Makes it just so wonderful you can enjoy the antics and peaceful playing!!
Looking forward and excited for more great news Brenda!!
I’m so glad to hear you are happy in your new place! And that the kitties are settling in too.
I’m happy you have a safe place.
Looking forward to seeing your photos. 💕
Yeah! You found your camera! I know how frustrating it is when you can’t find something you’re looking for. Your story about the kitties playing chase this morning warmed my heart. I’m so happy to hear that. Looking forward to your decorating pictures.
I’ve never been so happy for some to move as I am for you! Your last place was nothing but bad news and was only getting worse.
Have never lived in a totally perfect place anytime in life…doubtful ever will…but for sure SOME I was SO happy to escape from…made the next spot more endurable too. Looks like you are doing some of the same. Glad the cats are finally becoming nice to each other…and adapting. Animals usually are fine so long as with their people and get their food needs attended to as well.
So happy you are settling in and the kitties are getting back to normal. I’m looking forward to seeing your new home come together.
I am so happy for you and kitties! What a relief for you to be out of the old place and somewhere you can relax and joy your home. As always, there are pros and cons to every place. Like you, I would take a loud tv over a snake in my home! Your decor ideas sound lovely.
I rarely comment…but I have been reading you for years…and I just so enjoy everything you do. I also love your heart and how you make everything work! You always find a way. Looking forward to following on your adventures in the new home…kitties and all! Thanks for blogging…Hugs, Jane in Florida
Brenda, I am so happy to hear that you and your feline friends are settling into your new home. I wonder if you could take photos, temporarily, with your phone? I’ve used mine successfully for my little blog for a number of years.
Just now found the camera. Now I have to see if it’s charged. It was in my car.
I am thrilled that you were able to get out of your old place. Just the thought that snakes might crawl out of a vent…ugh! Hope you find your camera soon…so I can happily follow along as you make this place your home. Good luck….and stay safe! 😉
Brenda , You can breathe a big sigh of relief now that you’re in your new place. I think our senses are heightened when we’re in new environments. I imagine in a few days the sounds won’t be as noticeable. I wish you only good things to come!
Brenda, I’m so glad you and the kitties are settling in so nicely and that the environment is so much nicer than the last place. I am so very excited to see what you do with the cottage style decor. I am loving that look now for my home. I am always inspired by your beautiful and livable decorating style. Take care of yourself & it’s so nice that your daughters & friend are so helpful with the moving. Look forward to all you share from your new home.
I am so happy you have moved Brenda, you definitely did the right thing leaving your former place where nothing was ever done for the tenants. Glad to hear that Ivy and Gracie are enjoying their new home.
Glad the kitties are settling in. Maybe both f them coming into a new place at the same time will improve their relationship? The old apartment had been Ivy’s territory and I am sure it was a bit hard for her to get used to a new cat in her territory. Here they are equal!
I really think Sandy is right on, about Ivy and Gracie being both on even ground now. I never would have thought of that myself, but it sure fits, doesn’t it.
I have been wondering where you could have packed your camera. I know if it was me, I probably would have put it in a drawer, with socks or underwear, to make sure it had “basic” packing tucked around it. I have done that with jewelry, when I moved. Just a thought.
Can’t wait until you find it, pictures will be fun to see. So happy you are feeling comfortable now. You certainly deserve peace and normal living. NO snakes!!!!!
Glad to hear your home is coming together… an idea for hanging quilts… I have several on my wall and change them regularly using the adjustable quilt rod called Hang it Dang it… here’s a link to their website https://www.hangitdangit.com/
and you can get them on Amazon… only takes one nail in the wall and you can easily adjust the length to the size of the quilt. I hang a seasonal one in my living room all the time… here’s my latest
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZR5Xk6LNgj/
I like them to lay flat against the wall so I tape down the edges with Scotch Poster Tape or I use push pins in the bottom corners to keep them taut. I can only use push pin on the walls in my sewing studio because I have dry wall there… the LR requires a drill to put a hole in the wall… just thought I’d pass this idea along… I love how you decorate!
Was your camera case/bag something you would have moved separately inside your car and not put inside a box? If so, maybe it got shoved accidentally underneath one of your car seats or is hiding in the trunk or the glove box? Maybe Kasi or Kendra can put up some of your quilts on the walls, they might tone down some of the sounds traveling through walls and look pretty. I hope you will pace yourself in your decorating drive to get settled into your new home. I understand the urge to get it decorated and settled ASAP, but as women of a certain age, we need to recognize our limitations, much as it pains me to do so myself, LOL. That’s why it wasn’t until yesterday I put the finishing touches on my living room after un-decorating for Christmas. It only took about 3 weeks.
Oh love to hear the kitties are playing tag. Must have been such fun to see. Your camera will turn up. I hate it when things like that happen. You just sound so much happier. I am thrilled for you.
That’s exactly what happened! I went out and happened to look on the floor of the back seat and there it was! The color of the bag was the same color as the floor of the floor.
Great news! Happy kitties … happy Mama. So glad you’ve found such a welcoming place to live. Looking forward to seeing all that you do to make this place your very own.
So glad to hear things are coming together. It must be so fun to watch them race and chase! Looking forward to pictures, but please don’t stress about finding your camera .
I’m truly very excited for you! Home Sweet Home for you and the kitties. I’m in a house however I can still hear noises from neighbors, etc. They don’t bother me because they are signs of life. If a sound bothers me, I try to remember it won’t last long and soon it’ll be too quiet.
Your decorating plans are the way I’ve been decorating my home. I love a cottage style. I’m looking forward to seeing pictures!
Enjoy your day.
So glad things are coming together for you…does the heart good to hear…we all are so excited for you…take care of yourself…your ideas sound great…continued blessings to you and the kitties💞
Brenda,
I’m thrilled that you finally moved from that place! I’m with you, old people TV is better than snakes. Have you considered turning your white noise on by the wall from which you hear the other person’s TV? Even on low it may drown out some of the noise.
Also, your post hit my email junk folder this morning. I’m not much of a tech person, but maybe because you changed internet something or others? I’ve made sure it will hit my inbox from now on but I was surprised to see it in my junk folder! I’ve been reading you for years!
And the Girls may get along even better now. They are on even ground now that you’ve moved. Before it was “Ivy’s House” and Gracie was the interloper. Now they are both in a new place. Food for thought.
I’m so happy for all 3 of you. That old apartment has been a thorn in your side for so long!
Maybe moving was the problem with not getting the email in your inbox. I found out yesterday that the internet company opened a whole new account for me.
I’m so happy to hear about those kitties playing together! That’s a wonderful sign for the future. And isn’t that always the way? There’s something when we move that’s really important that we find easily, and we intentionally put it in a box that we know we will be able to find it in. Only to have to search and search for it. Things that made sense when we were packing it up don’t make sense when we are unpacking it. It will show up, or maybe you can use one of your daughter’s smartphones to snap a few photos to tide over.
