They are indeed special angels who come into our lives for a reason. Like so many of the comments you have here, I broke down and cried to read your blog today Brenda. My heart bleeds for you.

I say this so earnestly for I too am in the throes of grief having lost a most precious part of my life just short of two months ago. My beautiful boy was a light in my heart every single day for 13 years and his loss crushed me beyond words. When not wailing like a baby, I’ll hum a line in a song like, “the sweetest days I found … I found with you”. It will help me to remember …he came for a reason.

For how true it is that for so many of us these dear ones spark of the divine in ways that tell us there is so much more and we can love them so so dearly that our hearts truly shatter into a thousand pieces when they leave us.

Have confidence to know your dear little Abi is alright Brenda. As dark as this moment in time is for you now, she touched your life for a reason. She was indeed mean’t to be.

    God bless you dear.

    Dear Brenda,
I have been reading your blog for years now, never written to you but feel I known you and your love for your fur babies for years. After the last post Abi was constantly on my mind and I was dreading reading today’s post. So so very sorry for what you and Charlie are going through right now. Words are not going to help but be sure that Abi knows you loved her – she is one lucky dog to have a mom like you.
Abi is now waiting across the Rainbow Bridge… watching over you and Charlie.
    Hugs to you and Charlie

  7. Oh, my dear Brenda, I am so, so sorry that you’ve lost Abi. My eyes are filled with tears and my heart aches for you. Dear little Abi was such a love with such a big personality in that little body. Oh, my, what will Charlie do? Loving them and losing them is just so, so hard. It just tears you up and you never get over it.

I send my love and healing tho’ts–although, who can imagine healing without our babies? I don’t know where you will find comfort but I know there will be moments when you do. Loving and caring for Charlie will help you. The every minute pain of loss will subside gradually over the coming days, but Abi’s absence will be sorely felt and grieved, I know.

Dear little Abi, may you be at rest and free from your pain. May you run free and may your spirit be happy.

  8. So sorry for your loss. We will remember cute Abi and her little habits. Peace to you and Charlie.

  9. Many prayers for you dear Brenda. Sending love your way. If every sweet dog knew the life your dogs know, there wouldn’t be rescue dogs. All of us readers love you and each are sending big hugs, love and prayers of peace and comfort to you and Charlie.

I am so very, very sorry 🙁 I’ve read your blog for several years and and feel as though you and Abi and Charlie are almost like family 🙂 Abi will be missed by everyone who “knew” her because she was such a special girl. My heart is breaking for what you and Charlie are going through – and will be going through for such a long time as you grieve. I just lost my “little princess” on March 4th after 19 years together. I’m still trying to cope with it and so is another cat who loved her more than anybody else (me included). I am so sorry for the grief and suffering you and Charlie are going through right now. Abi was very special and will be deeply missed. She was very loved. I’m so sorry.

  16. Brenda – So sad for your losing sweet little Abi. Right now the pain seems unbearable, I’m sure. When I lost my little Buddy 2 years ago, I thought I would never recover. But I have learned to live with the loss.

I think of all the things he taught me about love and acceptance. We adopted him when he was 2. He only had three legs but he didn’t know it. He ran like the wind. He would lick us over 200 times in a single sitting. The more we laughed, the more he would lick.

When he was experiencing some of the worst effects of having a brain tumor, I learned to rock and pat him to sleep. If that didn’t work, I would lay him on my chest while I was laying down. I’d tell him we were heart to heart. It calmed both of us immensely. Even though I knew where we were headed, I treasured those last weeks with him. He is still in my heart.

I do believe we will see our beloved animals again because it is clear there will be no tears in heaven. If I don’t see Buddy waiting for me, I will cry. And I am looking forward to seeing him with all his legs! And the licking – what greater joy could there be!

Or maybe we will find out that these sweet animals were angels sent to minister to us. Seems likely to me.

Sadly all the joy of having Abi now seems gone with her death. But I hope that before too long, you can look back at the joy and that the pain won’t be so sharp. Hugs to you and Charlie.

  17. So sorry for your loss of your sweet beautiful Abi. You gave her a wonderful loving home in return for the love and joy she brought to you. Praying for you and Charlie.

  26. Brenda, I am so sorry for the loss of your dear girl Abi. IT is no consolation but she had a wonderful life with you and she was loved.

  27. I have never met you in person, only read your blog, but my I am so sad for you! I have a sweet furbaby that is 7 1/2 and I cannot even think of how I would feel if she passed away. All I can say is cherish all the wonderful memories of sweet Abi sneaking into all the photos you took for your blog. We all loved seeing her sweet face!

  28. I know this is heartbreaking for you, Brenda, and I’m so very sorry. Abi had a wonderful life with you as her Mama. Nobody could have loved her or cared for her more than you did. I can see that I am just one of many thinking of you today.

  29. Charmaine Belton says:

I have looked forward to your posts for years, but am just a silent fan…until today. My computer had been down for a couple days and as soon as I got it working again, I came straight to my email to see if there was any news about Abi. Just wanted to let you know I was so so sorry to know she has passed away. Sending comfort and peace with the hope that all the precious memories will warm your heart. When my 13yr. old chihuahua passed away, it felt like an actual hole in my chest, physical pain along with the deep emotional scar. I’m thinking of you and hope you know what a good doggie mama you were to her.. I loved reading about the dogs’ daily doings.
