Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipes
When I think of cold weather, hot chocolate immediately comes to mind. With thick gooey marshmallows melting on top and smoke swirling up into the air.
There will be children coming home from school and ready for a snack. And hot chocolate is always a special treat.
So today I’ve found healthy hot chocolate recipes for you to try.

At this time of year, it might also be fun to set up a hot chocolate station in your home. It’s great for when you’re entertaining guests during the holidays.
You’ve hit my weak spot! I may just have to try them all!
Hot chocolate is my weakness!!
Yummy post! We need some snow and we will be ready with the hot chocolate! It is 70 degrees by the Chesapeake Bay today! Have a good evening.
Snow and hot chocolate just somehow go together.
Thank you for the hot chocolate roundup! A really nice variety of recipes to choose from. I have always made it the old fashioned way w milk and Dutch Cocoa – no marshmallows for me but they do look cute:) It is getting to be that time of the year that hot chocolate tastes exceptionally good!
A belated comment on yesterday’s post: Jergens lotion brings me back to my childhood as well – so many memories come flooding back when I smell it:)
Especially when it’s snowing outside.
I love a nip of brandy or rum in my hot chocolate–mind you, not all of the time. It’s warming and very tasty. Once when we were camping and warming our tushes by the fire I thought that I’d brought enough. It was so good we ran out and someone said, “I can’t believe I’m actually thinking of driving down the mountain to get some more.” I think he did just that and we all had seconds. It was lovely around the campfire in the brisk early fall.
I would think it would be especially nice around a campfire.
Oh my…sounds so lovely. Soon the really cold will come and this will be just right!!
And when it gets really cold, I’ll probably be looking toward spring!
Anyone ever wonder why some people call it hot chocolate, while others call it hot cocoa? Is it a regional thing? Whatever you call it, it’s delicious, lol!! ☕
I don’t know. But I thought about that very thing while I was writing it.
Ooohhhh! I love all the mugs the hot chocolates are served in as well! I am enjoying warm cozy drinks this time of year, as well. Yummy and thank you, Brenda!
Yes, I agree! Somehow the fun mugs make it taste even better, lol!!
I imagine it tastes particularly good in a pretty mug.
If it’s hot chocolate, any type, I love it!! I never thought of using marshmallow fluff either. What a great idea, J! I’ll have to give that a try. I’ve only ever used marshmallows, or fresh whipped cream, cool whip, and sometimes a candy cane. But I love the fluff idea. And the idea of a hot chocolate bar sounds great for Christmas when the family is here! Thanks Brenda, for a “delicious” post today!
I’m going to try some of these alternate ideas to top off my hot cocoa with as well.
Thank you Brenda. I am not a coffee drinker and have limited my hot cocoa to a couple of cups at Christmas. Its such a splurge. I will try some of these out. I hope I can add more hot cocoa in my life.
Everyone needs hot cocoa!
All the recipes sure sound good!
I went over a few.
Sadly, all hot chocolate gives me severe migraines.
It’s the cocoa powder.
Imported cocoa is very strong. Cannot have that.
Milk chocolate seems okay.
I’ve made it with Hershey’s bars.
Don’t mind using non dairy products. Most are great.
For the past 6+ months I switched from half & half with my morning coffee ☕️ ,,,,, to plain NutPods.
No flavors or sugars.
I’ve always enjoyed coffee with cream though.
As already mentioned, NutPods would make great hot chocolate.
The taste is mild, lovely.
Very expensive now.
It also is delicious with oatmeal and dry cereals.
Lots of good ideas that definitely sound very yummy. I definitely enjoy an occasional cup of hot chocolate loaded with marshmallows. 🙂 Big Yum!
Have a bliss filled day, Brenda!
I could make it healthy, but then I might have to add marshmallows, which might defeat the purpose.
Most people are not aware marshmallows aren’t vegan. Or even vegetarian.
They are made from beef products.
Same as jello.
You can buy kosher marshmallows.
I don’t care for them.
Completely different flavors.
Best thing to do is whip up 1 cup of heavy duty cream, or even oatmilk.
Both taste wonderful!
Brenda, These all sound delicious and I love the use of maple syrup for a sweetener instead of white sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Also, try a few drops of homemade vanilla extract. My favorite topping is good old natural whipped cream. Thank you for the wonderful suggestions!
Ah, I love whipped cream!
I’ll stick to the old-fashioned kind of hot chocolate with actual milk from a cow and Dutch dark chocolate melted and mixed into the milk, thanks.
Same here, Jan!
I see nothing wrong with that at all, and I drink it too.
Yum! Hot chocolate! Just what I need to go check some blogs out bc I’m having an off day.
Have a fantastic day Brenda and your community!
First, the housekeeper was here, then it was the vet to give Ivy her shots. Kind of took up much of my day right there.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE hot chocolate and drink it every single day of the year. No coffee for me!
The only time I will drink a cup of coffee is when I can’t sleep. Coffee will make me sleepy instead of wide awake. I only know one other person like that, that lives around here. Weird right? lol
I love hot chocolate too Elizabeth and I drink plenty of it in the wintertime. My fav hot chocolate is with marshmallow fluff on top, that gets all melty on the top. Yum! I’ve tried different flavors of packets too!
I hadn’t even thought of marshmallow fluff.
I can drink coffee at night and it doesn’t bother my sleep at all!
I also love marshmallow fluff on top of hot chocolate too!
Well you go, girl!
