My Candy Cane Tree

I call this my candy cane tree. It’s decorated in red and white and can be seen from both inside and outside on the patio. This Christmas tree fits right into my red and white decorating style.

My candy cane tree, which is of course red and white, sits in my dining space by the patio door.

When it’s warm enough, I enjoy sitting under the green gazebo and having morning coffee or afternoon iced tea. I drink both coffee and iced tea year-round. Sitting out there, I can gaze at my candy cane tree, which is just inside the door in my dining space.

Do you recall me buying this red beverage tub at the antique mall last spring? I had placed my asparagus fern in the tub during the summer months.

It occurred to me that it would be a perfect tub to hold my little candy cane Christmas tree when December rolled around.

I didn’t realize I would go with a “theme” for my Christmas tree until the decorating was underway. Somehow, it just happened. It evolved as I added the decorations to the tree branches.

That’s often how I approach decorating. I begin, and somehow, what I didn’t visualize evolves naturally.

Because the color combination of red and white is so special to me, I decided it was a perfect color theme for my candy cane tree. I ended up decorating the tree with red and white candy canes and red and white ornaments.

My candy cane tree can be seen from the dining space and the patio.

I tied the ornaments on the candy cane tree branches with just. They stay on better when they’re tied with the jute. Also, pets can’t knock them off and break them. The jute looks more natural than the ornament hooks from the store.

I love the way my candy cane tree lights glow at night and how they are reflected in the glass of the patio door. The colored bottles sitting outside can also be seen from this view.

I consider my patio a living space. It’s so fun to decorate both the inside and the patio of my little one-bedroom apartment. Having the tree here this year means I can enjoy it from inside and outside.

  1. Looks beautiful Brenda!! I'm jealous because I can't put a tree up this year. We are in the middle of selling out house and no reason to get it all out to have to put it back up. We will celebrate Christmas at my daughter's house this year. Maybe I'm not jealous.. haha I won't have to clean up for everyone to come over to our house. haha Have a great day!!!

  2. Brenda, I love all the peppermint and red and white look to your tree! And your container is perfect for it. I bought a Christmas Tree Collar for our tree that was on a fantastic sale, BUT our tree was already up and decorated and I was informed we'll wait and use it next year. Some day we'll eventually get a smaller tree in place of our big one.

  3. Love that you "contained" your tree this year, too! I especially like that the container is on a stand. So cute!!!

  4. It looks very festive and great in that red tub too.

  9. I love the peppermint tree! Now you just need a little diffuser with some peppermint essential oil to use during the day (could keep you up at night) to go with the theme!

  10. Brenda that tree is so pretty! It has just the right amount of decorations. I also love seeing the labels on the items in your pantry, the checked curtains, and all of the colored glass outside. You have given yourself many pleasant spots to gaze upon! I've never had a themed tree, and maybe I will give it a try. It looks fun. Thanks for the inspiration.

  18. Love the red and white decorations! Nothing speaks Christmas, to me, like red and white and stripes! I love the tub in red that holds the tree. Last year, we had a new kitten, and needed a stand for our artificial tree that would hold up to her climbing up the stem of the tree! We poked around in our garage, and came up with using our patio table umbrella stand made of (very) heavy cast iron. The hole where you would put the umbrella was perfect for the tree, and no more tipping over! Maybe I'll get my decorating mojo one of these days……

  19. Your tree is so adorable! I just took down my fall decorations today, so hope to start on the Christmas things soon.Blessings, Carolyn

  21. Ahhhhh soooooo cute!! Love it!! I like that you can also enjoy it from outside – my tree is the same, although our weather has definitely not been conducive for me to sit out on my deck!

Love your Candy Cane tree and its red container. I do several theme trees each year, but i feel myself slowing down as I grow older (77).I haven't even started this year so don't know how much I will get done. Your blog is one of my favorites.

  23. that tree is the meaning of CHEERFUL! I love it.

  26. It is so cute Brenda and I love the big tub! I just put up my tree but it needs decorations which I will do later. No theme for me, just my memories as I bring out ornaments from over the years! I think a nice cup of coffee and a cookie while I decorate will be fun!
