Practical Arthritis Aids for Daily Living

There are many practical arthritis aids for daily living that I’ve utilized over time to deal with pain.

I got out the ornaments I want to put on the tabletop tree. The first thing I always do is cut off the gold string they typically add to hang them with. With three curious cats, I find it’s safer to use twine or jute to tie them to the tree.
This led to finding scissors to cut the twine.
Fiskars Scissors:

While going about this task, I found that all my scissors are dull as dishwater. I use Fiskars open-ended scissors because I have arthritis in my wrist, hands, and fingers. This has been going on for nearly 30 years now, so I’ll take all the help I can get.
I looked for these scissors on the Walmart website because I’m not too happy with Amazon’s political leanings and dealings these days. But Walmart didn’t have them. So I had to order them from the Jeff Bezos-who-sold-his-soul-for-lower-taxes-Amazon site.
Garden Snippers:
I use these garden snippers when working in my container garden. I’ve found these to be very helpful.
Jar Lid Opener:
Here’s what I have to help with opening jar lids. This is for when the “tap-the-end-of-a-knife” trick doesn’t help ease the lid open. I always try that first.

Biofreeze:
For back pain and discomfort, I use Biofreeze. I keep one in my bedside drawer. That way, in the middle of the night when I’m in pain, it’s right there. It eases the pain fast.
Tylenol Arthritis Tablets:
Since I can’t use Ibuprofen due to my stomach issues, I use Tylenol Arthritis.
These are extended-release tablets.
Gel Ice Packs:

I keep these gel ice packs in the freezer and use them pretty much daily. It feels good on my back while I’m sitting in my chair.
Knee Ice Pack:
As I’m writing this, I am using both the rectangular gel ice pack on my back and the knee ice pack. I put the ice pack on the right knee for about 20 minutes, then switched to the left knee.
Corelle Dishes:
Some time ago, a few of you suggested I get lightweight Corelle dishes. I ordered four of them. One I left in the microwave too long, apparently, and it developed brown stains. So I tossed it.
But I have three plates left, and I use them daily. Thanks for the suggestion!
Bamboo Dish Scrubbers:

I like these bamboo dish scrubbers to wash dishes, etc. The long bamboo handle helps my hand to grip the brush. This comes with replacement heads. It’s much easier for me than using a sponge.
Hand/Wrist Brace:

I bought this brace in 2019 and used it for some time, and it helped with hand/wrist pain. But for some reason, I can’t find it.
Thumb Stabilizer:
I use this thumb stabilizer to limit movement at the thumb joint. The pain is caused by basal thumb arthritis.
When cartilage wears away, the bones in the joint grind together, causing pain, stiffness, and weakness at the base of the thumb.
Back Brace:
They’re no longer selling the back brace I purchased in 2020, but this back brace by Mueller is very similar. And I like the Mueller brand.

Onecompress Company:
I have ordered many braces for my wrists, hands, ankles, and now my knees from Amazon. But then, just about a month ago, I discovered this company, Onecompress.
Premium bamboo material is said to have many benefits. I don’t know what it is about bamboo compression that helps, but for some reason, it does.
They aren’t cheap, but they are better quality than others I’ve used. It’s hard to put a price on something that relieves pain.
First, I ordered the hand gloves. They help me to type and reduce the nerve pain and arthritis.
Those felt so good that I ordered the anti-fatigue bamboo footsleeves. I often wear them while I sleep.
After that, I ordered the knee sleeves. These are higher-quality products than I’ve purchased from big-box stores.
Hand, Ankle, & Knee Sleeves:
The knee sleeves feel wonderful! I wear them to help me walk with knee pain. I often wear a knee brace over them, outside my pants.
I just wanted to share what is working for me for arthritis pain these days. You have helped me with suggestions over the years, so I wanted to do the same.
Walmart InHome Delivery Service:
I have been relying on Walmart’s InHome delivery service for some years now. A Walmart associate picks up the groceries I order online and delivers them.
This means I usually have the same person delivering my groceries every time. I typically order groceries every other week.
They bring my groceries inside to my preferred spot. They would put them away for me, but I prefer to have them put the sacks of groceries on the table, and I put them away.
Here is information about the InHome premium no-tip delivery service. I like that I don’t have to worry about the tip. It’s all included in my yearly subscription.
I have been very pleased with this delivery service and recommend it to anyone with a disability. Some of us can’t navigate in-store shopping any longer.
I haven’t used this, but they also have an InHome return pickup service for the next day.
Do you have arthritis aids that work for you that you’d like to suggest?

Thanks for sharing Brenda. It’s helpful to see these and your thoughts on them.
I have bamboo socks that I bought several years ago and I love them. I wish I had bought more though so I could throw out all the others. I think I got them before I retired so I’m going to go through my old emails to see if I happen to have a receipt. I get the ones for diabetics as they aren’t as tight (that was a hint from my old doctor).
Oh I meant to say I’ve been using the Walmart delivery forever. Sometimes when I feel like I need the exercise, I will go to the store. But then I buy more than I need!
Personal story: when I started trying online slots on a UK platform from London, I learned quickly that the license page alone isn’t enough. I now check whether the site explains identity checks before withdrawals and uses secure login steps. Licensed operators usually mention debit-card payments, national self-exclusion participation, and responsible play tools. You’ll also notice slot autoplay isn’t present because of UK product rules. I once read a discussion where someone compared these safeguards while mentioning spintime-gb.uk which pushed me to read policy sections more carefully. My observation: if the payment rules look vague, I rarely trust the rest.
When I could shop in the stores, I always bought more too!
Thanks for sharing these things, Brenda! The main thing we do is take apple cider vinegar pills 2 times a day…morning ones are very strong, and evening ones lighter. Also, take garlic pills in the AM. Both do help take away the pain. I have injured a knee (broke kneecap years ago) so I also daily use this little machine on actually both knees if I have time, each morning. Once in awhile, if barometric pressure is changing a lot, will have pain anyway, so might use the machine another time in the day. It has helped my knees to be stronger and not give way on me as they were before I found this machine. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPFSQ51K?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2 I can also get my knees worked on at the doctors, to the tune of $65+. The machine has more than paid for itself plus I can use it 24/7. I would buy them for everybody on the planet if I was rich!! At times, if my hand is hurting, I have also put my hands inside and run it. I actually do 2 rounds on it, on each knee…first time with vibration and max heat, next time no vibration and least heat. But there are quite a few choices of levels so you could experiment.
Oppss…need to correct…I take a garlic pill in AM and another in PM. So 2 per day.
I’ll check these out! Thanks!
Thank you for all this information. As many of us are getting older, we need all the help we can get. And word of mouth, via a good recommendation, works for me. Thank you
I also rely on reviews, but firsthand knowledge is always better.
What an informative posts!!! I will be saving it and referring back to it as I shop.
I hope this helps!
If you hold the jar under hot water for a few seconds or more it warms up the seal and then you can easily unscrew the lid
I’ve done that too. Both work.
This compilation of arthritis aides is so helpful. I have several other issues that affect my mobility, like diabetic nerve damage and severe stenosis of neck & spine. On your recommendation, I have groceries (including over counter pharmacy and grooming items) delivered from Walmart – what a God-send. Thank you for sharing such helpful info. BTW, I too have issues with Amazon CEO and try to limit ordering from there.
I’m very thankful for the Walmart service!
Great suggestions! I will have to check some of them out! Lots of bone on bone. Tylenol is my friend. Getting older is not for chickens! Funny when we were younger we thought that none of these problems would happen. Not so funny now! But as I keep reminding myself, it could be much worse! But we had beautiful weather today. 55 and sunny! The south winds have brought a lot of birds back to Wisconsin! Singing away!
I hope you have a nice sunny, beautiful day tomorrow.
I keep telling Kendra to slow down, as she tends to be like me. She’s already got bad knees and hand problems, though.
Brenda, I too try to stay away from Amazon as much as I can. If I can get it through Walmart I will.
I also have arthritis and I love the compress one sleeves. I sleep in my knee braces. It helps with the replaced knee nerve damage and the other knees pain. I’ll order the elbow and wrist ones also.
Thanks for all the info on things that help with the pain or yo possibly prevent pain.
It took me a while to figure out what I need and where to get it, so I thought I’d let you guys know, since you give me your suggestions all the time.
