R.I.P., my sweet Charlie Ross.
Yesterday afternoon, I took Charlie to an emergency veterinarian and had him euthanized. He was doing poorly and could barely get around. I’ve put it off, and I can’t bear to see him barely able to move about.
It was time.
We’d been having a lot of sleepless nights where he couldn’t get his breath or stop coughing.
When it got to the point in time where I was having to give him more medication than was called for, I knew it was too much for him to keep going.
Charlie Ross Pruitt: September 18, 2006 – April 28, 2021
I loved him so very, very much, and always will. And I was with him, petting him and telling him how much I loved him as he left this world behind.
I am heartbroken. He was almost 15, and I had spent every single day with him by my side, sleeping with him every single night. And I miss my Charlie boy terribly. And I miss singing to him at night as I always did. I miss him lying next to me in this chair.
Grief is so complicated. Letting them go is so very hard.
Charlie has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is out of pain. I hope Abi was there waiting for him.

But loss is part of life. And if you dare to love, then you will inevitably feel loss at some point. That is, unfortunately, the price you pay for love.
My sweet Charlie lives on in my heart.
I love you to the moon and back, Charlie boy.

It’s just Ivy and me now. We will grieve together, saddened, but grateful to have one another.
The Rainbow Bridge:
Just this side of heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….Author unknown…
A Jar of Zinnias:

This morning, I went out and cut a jar of zinnias. It is a simple and unfussy bouquet that I can enjoy indoors.
I have Charlie’s ashes now. His and Abi’s ashes are side by side on my bookshelf.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that Charlie has passed on. You both were blessed to have so much time together and I’m sure that Abi is there to greet him in doggy heaven. May you be comforted in knowing that you were the best “mom” both of them could have ever wanted. And hold Ivy tight; she knows what you are feeling and she, too, needs your comfort.
I am so sorry, Brenda. I know how hard it is to make that decision for our babies. I have done it twice. There just comes a time you have to think of them instead of how we feel about them going. Take care. Ivy will be a comfort to you, I’m sure. pam
Sending Hugs and sympathy. He was a good boy.
I am so sorry for your loss I know that he was your fur baby and loved him so much Prayers
So sorry you had to say goodbye to your little companion. It was a good life you gave him.
So sorry for your loss, it’s a tough one as they have your heart, but know that is with them in their better place. You also have the memories of all those wonderful times together as they truly are a part of you forever.
Brenda, I am so sorry.
The time comes when it’s just the kindest thing to do to let them go even though it breaks our heart. I’m glad you had him for a long time. You were the best mom he could have had.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Those of us who have fur babies understand your pain, and the heartbreaking but loving decision to help them cross the rainbow bridge and end THEIR pain. Our sweet pea Springer is 13 and I can already see the day approaching for us to make that very same choice. Your little Charlie Ross had a happy life and that was all because of you.
Oh Brenda, I am so sorry for your loss. Charlie was such a sweet boy.
I am soooo sorry. I know you loved him very much. Abi was waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge. Both of them knew they were loved I am sure. They both were blessed to have you as their mom! You and Ivy will both need each other to get through the hard days. Love on her and know you were an outstanding mom and gave so much to them.
I wish I had words to help you thru this time . Please know you are in my prayers and have been for some time.
My heart is breaking. I have loved your dogs over the years. I am so glad you had them. I had two Yorkies. They are so sweet
You were a great mom to them.
Sharing my deepest condolences………………………..if I just had that magic wand, I would wave away the sorrow and pain, leaving only room for the best of memories. Take good care of you as you process through this. Ivy will help you along the way, along with all of us, your follows, as we lift you in prayer.
RIP sweet boy, Charlie Ross.

I’m so sorry. He was so lucky to have such a a long happy life and a loving mama.
I am in tears for you, Brenda. It is so hard. But so relieved for dear Charley to be free of the pain.
Thinking of you.
Oh my goodness. I know how bad it hurts. I have been there a few times myself. He is happy and playing with the other babies now.

Brenda I am so sorry. Crying here in NY. I loved reading about Charlie. I have a 15 year old pup too. You are the best pet mom.
Oh Brenda, there are no words to express how sorry I am to hear about Charlie. It’s a long time to share your life with a pet and then the time comes to set them free. You were so good to Abi and Charlie. I am thankful you have Ivy to comfort you. Much love, Annette 💞
Brenda I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Charlie Ross. I also have tears running down my face while reading this. Your pets have the best most loving Mom. I can’t imagine how hard this is for you. You will be in my thoughts all day. Take care.
So sorry about Charlie. My heart breaks for you.
I’m so sorry. You gave him a wonderful life.
Words are not enough. I’ve tried to write something comforting but I just want to reach out and hug you instead. Just know that he will be in your heart forever.
They are always in our hearts, but it is so hard to let them go. Part of being a good mama is knowing when to say goodbye. You are a good mama. Abbie is there with the great news that they serve pizza. 😢
I never met Charlie but I know he was loved. He knew he was loved. That’s what matters. He will be missed.
