R.I.P., my sweet Charlie Ross.
Yesterday afternoon, I took Charlie to an emergency veterinarian and had him euthanized. He was doing poorly and could barely get around. I’ve put it off, and I can’t bear to see him barely able to move about.
It was time.
We’d been having a lot of sleepless nights where he couldn’t get his breath or stop coughing.
When it got to the point in time where I was having to give him more medication than was called for, I knew it was too much for him to keep going.
Charlie Ross Pruitt: September 18, 2006 – April 28, 2021
I loved him so very, very much, and always will. And I was with him, petting him and telling him how much I loved him as he left this world behind.
I am heartbroken. He was almost 15, and I had spent every single day with him by my side, sleeping with him every single night. And I miss my Charlie boy terribly. And I miss singing to him at night as I always did. I miss him lying next to me in this chair.
Grief is so complicated. Letting them go is so very hard.
Charlie has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is out of pain. I hope Abi was there waiting for him.

But loss is part of life. And if you dare to love, then you will inevitably feel loss at some point. That is, unfortunately, the price you pay for love.
My sweet Charlie lives on in my heart.
I love you to the moon and back, Charlie boy.

It’s just Ivy and me now. We will grieve together, saddened, but grateful to have one another.
The Rainbow Bridge:
Just this side of heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….Author unknown…
A Jar of Zinnias:

This morning, I went out and cut a jar of zinnias. It is a simple and unfussy bouquet that I can enjoy indoors.
I have Charlie’s ashes now. His and Abi’s ashes are side by side on my bookshelf.

So sad for your, good dogs go directly to a better place… I had my Lylly euthanized in the spring after she had been ill for months and just worn out at 16 plus years. You see her photo on her Facebook page Lylly Spry.
I think her spirit became a robin as the first one of spring flipped past my car as I cried in the parking lot of the local coffee shop..
Felicitations… Prue
So sorry to hear about your handsome Charlie. I have been absent quite a while from reading your blog. Lots of changes in my life too. He was a great little gentleman. So sorry.
Please accept my condolences on your loss of Charlie. I have just one dog who is 5. I dread the day, but I’m so glad you have Ivy to keep you company.
I’m so incredibly sad to read this. I remember when you lost Abi. I’m so so sorry. I’ve been behind in my reading and just saw your lastest blog post and nothing about your beautiful Charlie and I feared the worst as he wasn’t doing great last time I read your blog. You gave him so much love and enjoyment. A very lucky dog indeed.
Just catching up with your blog as I have had a tragedy in my life too. I am truly sorry for your loss Brenda. I know our fur babies are like our children. With that being said, Charlie had the best Mom ever. You did so much for him. Love and hugs
I’m just reading your blog and I’m very sad for you Brenda! I know how hard it is to lose a beloved family pet! It’s gut wrenching! My heart goes out to you!
Charlie knows he was loved bc you took great care of him and did everything humanly possible to make sure he wasn’t hurting ever. You are a fantastic pet Mom Brenda!
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that your heart will hurt less each day forward!
I had that miserable covid that knocked me for a loop and I’ve always been healthy! I was just thinking about getting the shot too, b4 it got me and now I need to bc I never want to be sick like that ever again!
Stay safe, healthy and strong!
My heart goers out to you Ive had a few dogs and this part never gets easy.
I am so sorry for your loss.
My deepest sympathies for you. ❤️
{{hugs}} We never seem to have our fur babies long enough with us. You gave him a wonderful life. My prayers and thoughts are with you during the days to come.
Brenda, I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Our pets become family members and bring us such joy. Know that you are in my thoughts!
I’m so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. How long ago did you lose Abi? We had to let our 8 y.o. Trooper go in April. He got sick so quick but actually he was diagnosed last year with early kidney failure. We spent thousands trying to save him. Its heartbreaking to let our fur babies go but we don’t want them to suffer either. So sorry Brenda
I lost Abi on May 10, 2018.
I am so sorry and so sad for you. You are in my prayers.
Soo sorry for loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
I am so sorry! It’s amazing how much love we can get from them and for them. Sending prayers for you.
Just want to say Brenda I feel your pain, thinking of you.
I’m so sorry. Praying for you.

I’m so sorry for your deep hurt & loss. Praying for you. Donna Black
My deepest sympathy.. Someday when you can breath again, try to remember this. Of all the dogs and all the people in the world, how lucky were you to have a dog who you loved and who loved you back so much. You were meant to be together.
I’m so very sorry. You gave Charlie a good life & took such loving care of him. I’m sure that is why he made it to almost 15 years, although it is never as long as we would like. I hope that Ivy gives you comfort during this difficult time. Many hearts feel your sorrow today.
Omg, I’m so sorry Brenda :o( He is in a better place with Abi. My thoughts are with you.

I am so very, very sorry. I know this is absolutely heartbreaking. Charlie was adorable, precious, and very loved. I wish there was something I could say that would help, but I know from experience there is not. Every one of us who “knew” Charlie loved him. He will be missed always. I’m so sorry.
I have been reading your blog for a couple Ed of years now, and feel as if we are friends. I know how difficult it is to lose a beloved pet, a part of your family and your heart. I will pray for you.
Oh Brenda I am so sorry for your loss. I’m right there with you. I just lost my sweet 15 yr old Harley and it is so hard. I feel for you. Just remember all the good times.
This is sooooooooo sad!!! I have tears and a giant lump in my throat upon learning you had to say goodbye to him—just like when it was Abi’s time to go.
I’m remembering she went during the month of May…and now Charlie in June. Back-to-back months, though separated by years.
And she DEFINITELY was there to greet him and start playing with him *immediately *!!!
You were the best fur baby Mom. So sorry for you loss!
Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss; he is such a cutie. Glad you had him in your life for 15 years but now sad he’s gone.
Take care.
Cindy
