R.I.P., my sweet Charlie Ross.
Yesterday afternoon, I took Charlie to an emergency veterinarian and had him euthanized. He was doing poorly and could barely get around. I’ve put it off, and I can’t bear to see him barely able to move about.
It was time.
We’d been having a lot of sleepless nights where he couldn’t get his breath or stop coughing.
When it got to the point in time where I was having to give him more medication than was called for, I knew it was too much for him to keep going.
Charlie Ross Pruitt: September 18, 2006 – April 28, 2021
I loved him so very, very much, and always will. And I was with him, petting him and telling him how much I loved him as he left this world behind.
I am heartbroken. He was almost 15, and I had spent every single day with him by my side, sleeping with him every single night. And I miss my Charlie boy terribly. And I miss singing to him at night as I always did. I miss him lying next to me in this chair.
Grief is so complicated. Letting them go is so very hard.
Charlie has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is out of pain. I hope Abi was there waiting for him.

But loss is part of life. And if you dare to love, then you will inevitably feel loss at some point. That is, unfortunately, the price you pay for love.
My sweet Charlie lives on in my heart.
I love you to the moon and back, Charlie boy.

It’s just Ivy and me now. We will grieve together, saddened, but grateful to have one another.
The Rainbow Bridge:
Just this side of heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….Author unknown…
A Jar of Zinnias:

This morning, I went out and cut a jar of zinnias. It is a simple and unfussy bouquet that I can enjoy indoors.
I have Charlie’s ashes now. His and Abi’s ashes are side by side on my bookshelf.

Oh, Brenda, we have all known and loved Charlie Ross for so long through your writings and pictures, and are heartbroken for you. Though he has left this life, he will never really leave you, nor will Abi Rose. Keep on calling to him. He is there somewhere beyond time and he and Abi still love you very much.
I’m so sorry. It is such a hard thing to do. I had to have my boy Dickens put to sleep last week and I miss him so much. He was blind, had a heart condition and was 17, so I guess I was luck to have him so long, but he leaves such a hole in my life.
So sorry for your loss!
Brenda, I am so sorry for your loss. Charlie was so loved by you & all of us knew him!!
Be good to yourself. 🕊
Brenda,
I am so sorry to hear Charlie has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. You were both fortunate to have each other.

Dear Brenda, I’m so sorry to learn about Charlie Ross. He could not have had a better or more loving person in his life than you. Hugs and love.
So sad. I’m thinking of you at this time and letting you know you are loved and cherished by so many readers. We have lived with Charlie too and know how much you love him. He will always be a special dog and your dear friend. You did the right thing but that doesn’t make it any easier. Take care of yourself.
I am so sorry. I know the pain and heartache. He is in God’s arms now. Pat.

Oh Brenda, I’m so very sorry! I know your heart is breaking, and there’s nothing any of us can do. I know it was a hard decision to make, doing what you knew was best for your baby. He knew how much he was loved, and he loved you back, just as much. He’s at peace now, and enjoying playing with Abi. And you have all your friends here, who love and care very much for you. You’re in my prayers. Sending lots of hugs and love your way.
He was a special special boy… And I know he loved you as much as you loved him.
I am so very sorry.

I am so glad that Ivy is there to Love and comfort you.. will keep you in my prayers…
My heart aches for you. Thanks for sharing sweet Charlie Ross with us through the years.
Losing a beloved pet is so very difficult 🦋
So sad to hear this. Take care of yourself.
Brenda, there’s nothing any of us can say that will ease your pain, but perhaps it might help knowing that he is now happy, out of pain, and can chew and eat and breathe like he should. I’m sure Abi is with him showing him her favorite places and trying to boss him around already. It’s those of us that are left behind then have the misery. We can be soothed knowing that they are comfortable, warm and safe. I’m sure that Ivy is confused and concerned about you. Kitties are wonderful healers, so let her do her job as she knows best. I’m so very sorry.
I am so very sorry for your loss. It’s so very difficult to lose our pets. You gave him so much love and care until the very end. He is pair free now and with Abi.
Oh Brenda … I’m so very sorry. Charlie was the sweetest little guy and you were the best Mom ever to him. It’s so difficult to lose a family member and my heart goes out to you. (((Hugs)))
Oh Brenda, I am so sorry to hear this news. I know he meant so much to you. I am sure he is with Abi. May you take comfort in that…and in your memories of him.
