The sky has suddenly grown dark. I’m sitting here with Charlie listening to the growl of thunder in the distance. The first drops of rain fell, then inexplicably stopped.
This morning I went out on the patio with my camera for my first stroll of the day through the garden, and I heard an owl but can’t place where it is.
Woo-hoo! Woo, woo, woo.
I’ve been hearing it the past few days. I don’t recall hearing one here before. I would love to attract owls to my garden. But I can’t think of a place that is tall enough for an owl house, as it needs to be at least 10 feet off the ground.
And even if the tree was in my yard, which it is not, I don’t want to be climbing up trees.
They say the most common owl in a garden setting is the barn owl. They eat all kinds of creatures you don’t want around.
I walked around trying to locate where the sound was coming from. When I stood underneath the tree branches, the sound stopped.
My guess is it was in the tree, but I couldn’t locate it. The sound of the owl seemed farther away.
But what do I know about owls? Maybe it already has made a nest up there somewhere.
Then I heard the resident ducks overhead, probably headed for the pool.
I’ve been looking online for about a week for a cat tree Ivy might possibly like. I know she must get bored staring out the window and sleeping. And her chair is already riddled with tiny holes.
I was thinking one might be nice set up over by the patio doors, where she could watch me working out in the garden and see the birds flitting around.
I just have to be sure to find one that is strong and stable enough for her size. The ones I’ve looked at have fit some of the criteria and not others.
With some of them I’m afraid the steps are too far apart, and Ivy is tentative about going up things she’s not sure she can land safely on.
Yesterday afternoon I worked for hours outside, cleaning up and putting dead leaves into lawn bags.
I overdid it a bit. I wish there was an alarm in my head that would go off just before I get to that point so I could stop before I inflict pain on my ankle that will last for days.
It’s getting so dark I’m going to have to turn on a lamp I think. This seems more like 8 o’clock at night than 8:41 in the morning.
My plants could use a nice rain shower. And I could use a simple day of rest. The only way I’m likely to get it is if it’s raining so hard I can’t go outside, where there’s always something that needs to be done.
