Snow In Oklahoma

You don’t often see snow in Oklahoma. It snows here and there but rarely sticks to the ground. We saw snow all day yesterday, and there are still flurries today.
It creates a picturesque scene of the neighborhood.

This is the house on the corner across the street from me. Unlike them, I didn’t put my trash cans out. I’m not making that slippery trek down the driveway to the street.
Three Feline Inmates:
Meanwhile, I feel like I’m a prison guard with three inmates. Ivy, Simon, and Daisy. The kittens insist on following Ivy around. And needless to say, Ivy doesn’t even like them in the house. Much less following her around.
I’m tired of trying to keep up with it all without having eyes in the back of my head. The kittens dart around like buzzing bees, and Ivy growls and hisses at them.
I let the kittens out of the guest room at about six this morning so they could run around. Ivy spent most of the night at the top of the cat tower and is now sleeping in my bedroom. That massive cat tower is quite popular around here.
Kittens sure manage to get themselves in a lot of trouble. Then they’ll take a nap and start all over again. I’ll look up from what I’m doing, and they’ll be tussling. Then suddenly that will cease, and they’ll be licking and cleaning one another.

I can’t seem to get many good photos of Simon. He’s so black that the photo always looks blurry. And then there’s Daisy, bouncing around like a cheerleader.
When I first saw them online, she appeared to be bigger than Simon. But he’s caught up and passed her in size now.
They run and they play and they hide and they seek.
Those birds outside the window next door are very appealing to them. They go from window to window watching the birds dart in and out of the bushes.
Marley Gets A Snow Day:
Marley is home from school today due to the snow. Oklahomans don’t seem to know quite what to do with snow, so they tend to stay inside. Riley is still home from college for Christmas break.
Kendra had another root canal on Wednesday, so she’s recovering. This morning she said they’d probably watch movies all day.
I’ll be watching over my furry little inmates. It’s hard work trying to keep everyone happy around here. Ivy doesn’t appear to be changing her attitude toward the kittens any time soon.
I guess I can’t blame her. We thought she needed friends, but right now she sees them more as enemies.
Simon is lying on the stack of quilts on the yellow table, and Daisy is chasing her tail on the fireplace mantel. I hope she doesn’t get dizzy and fall off. Kittens don’t seem to understand fear.
Happy weekend! Is it snowing where you are?

yep! lots of snow here in Ohio! But we midwesterners are used to it so our kids only had one snow day since going back to school. I used to hate being from and living in Ohio and couldn’t wait to get out of here, but now I so appreciate the changing seasons and variety we have in this state of ours.
Sounds like Ivy was content being an only kitty! Hopefully, she warms up soon to the kittens.
Snow in Oklahoma, and in the meantime we are having a very mild winter in the Pacific Northwest. We have hardly had a low below freezing so far. So adorable to see the kittens looking out the windows and hearing about their escapades. I have almost always had a cat or as many as three at one time. I have had a couple of circumstances where there was an older cat. Ivey may not ever play with the little ones, but they still add a dimension to her life. She may act aloof, but if they were gone she might get bored and miss their presence. I had an older cat search for days when the younger cat died unexpectedly. I would even say he mourned for her.
Love hearing about your kittens in action. It’s been a long time since I’ve raised kittens but the memories are sweet. It’s been my experience that the cat first on the scene (Ivy) will most likely accept the kittens after about 6 weeks. It just seemed to work out that way for me … first there was hissing and fussing and then just gradually improved until they were living comfortably together. It just takes adjustment time.
Now why would you think Ivy needed company? 🤪😘. She loved you and her peace. But keep the kitties! They need you too!
Love the kitty pictures ! So fun to see . Crazy isn’t it , you have the snow and I’m in Wisconsin. We got about a half inch this morning. Sunday we could get about 3 inches. Otherwise I feel like I’m in the deep freeze . Some single digits at night and teens and 20’s during the day . When it’s cold like this I make sure Chub, the outside cat, gets plenty of food .
Snow makes things clean and pretty – until it starts to melt. LOL. Looks like a nice house across the way. I’d just leave the kittens and Ivy to themselves at this point. They know each other exists. Ivy will have to deal with it but most importantly, the kittens will learn their place with her. Ivy is queen and they will end up respecting her.
I can’t help but chuckle. I’ve had cats and I spent most of my time removing them from the kitchen counter. Enjoy them….they are adorable.
So far they haven’t gotten on the kitchen counter.
It started snowing here yesterday at 11AM and was still snowing when I went to bed at 1AM. We got about 8 inches, unheard of around here! Now it’s fallen off all the trees and the roof is dripping. I wish I’d taken my phone to the barn this morning to have a memory of the beauty. The tree limbs out at the pond had a cap of snow on each one and it was silent, as if the world had a muffler. Now we’ll lose the pretty and get the muddy, but I’m just grateful for a home to enjoy it while we can. Those kitties of yours are so cute, but Smidgee is only a year old and I definitely remember how stressful it is to raise baby cats. You took two at once and I took in a feral. What are we, crazy??
We probably both need to get our heads examined.
It is snowing here in mid-Michigan! Lightly, but steadily. Don’t know how much they are predicting for us. Doesn’t matter to me as I’m not about to go out in it, even to get the mail. I fell off my back stoop a couple days ago so I’m not risking it until I get a railing installed. I have lost a lot of strength in the last year. My bad knees have kept me from walking regularly and I am lax about doing other exercises. Fortunately, I wasn’t hurt at all when I fell–only my pride as I had to call the neighbor over to help me up when he came home. I thought I might have to sleep out the on the cement stoop! Anyway, not risking a replay of that little act for a while.
Hearing about the antics of the kittens is so entertaining. I really miss the dog my daughter and family have when they were living w/me. Would like one of my own but don’t think it is a good idea ’til my knees are fixed. There’s no way I could walk one right now. Maybe in the future or I might have to give in and get a cat. I haven’t wanted to because I am mildly allergic and absolutely hate caring for a litterbox. If I get lonely enough I might give in, though. Well, Brenda, stay in and stay warm and enjoy the snow from your window inside.
I don’t know what I’d do without the railing to my front porch.
Snowing in Michigan, nothing new, but my Texas daughter has her four kids home for the second day building snowmen while their dog runs around in circles wondering what on earth is going on!
I know you must have mentioned it before, but are the kitties siblings? I love it when family members get to stay together.
Ivy will grow tired of hissing at them and just settle in to ignore them. That’s been my experience with incoming rescues.
No, they’re not siblings. They just bonded, and so they wanted them to stay together.
How about some catnip, including for Ivy, it sounds like she needs something to help her mellow out a little bit. It’s been lightly snowing off and on, we’ve gotten about half an inch of dusty powdery snow in Milwaukee, starting earlier this morning. We may get 3 to 5 more inches over night, depending on how the air flows, or we may get nothing more (fingers crossed). So far this season we’ve pretty much missed out on getting lake effect snow, for which I am very grateful. Average snowfall used to be between 43″ and 50″ a season, but with climate change over the years, we never know what we may get. For the most part, it’s been much less snow, which suits me fine. The snow makes for pretty sceneries, for sure, like the brick house across the street you photoed, looks like you could be in the countryside in old England, or New England. But it’s a pain in the neck to have to shovel the sidewalk out front, clear off the front porch for the mail carrier and make a pathway at the least down the driveway from my kitchen door that opens to the driveway side of the house as I do not use my front door to go in and out. Still, I’m grateful I’m in good enough shape to be able to do it myself. And if we get a BIG snowfall, my neighbors always come over and snowblow me out, sometimes at 5 in the morning, during which it’s a little harder to be grateful. The kitties are so cute! Hopefully Ivy will adapt; the kittens may not give her a choice 🙂
I certainly couldn’t do what you do physically. Be careful in the snow!
You could try Feliway spray to spray in the area that helps to calm them down. I have used this product before and have also used this when taking a cat to the vet. When taking to the vet I would spray some on their blanet for towel in the carrier; Spraying in the area where the cats come together could be useful to calm down the situation.
Might have to order some of that.
Brenda, writing from sunny, but chilly northern California….the kittens are so entertaining especially how you chronicle their antics. I imagine Ivy will come around, I’m debating whether to get my Chloe a companion, though not a kitten…..Your neighbors home is lovely and the snow looks amazing….have a great start to the New Year…..ps….there have been a few minor earthquakes in the ocean near SF , not a lot but to think about…..the southern California wildfires are dominating the news, praying for all those affected……
Those wildfires are so devastating.
This isn’t quite the same situation. We had one dog, a shih tzu, who was 7-1/2 years old when my husband decided we needed another. Maci (the oldest) and Sage never did make up, even though Sage tried her hardest. They are both gone now, but Maci was 14-1/2 when I had to put her down. It was probably a lonely existence for Sage after that because we never got another dog, and she lived another 3-1/2 years. And now, I’d love to have another dog, but my husband has so many medical problems I don’t think it’s a good idea.
With love comes loss, unfortunately. I know that pain.
Kittens. So many ideas and shenanigans that aren’t thought through.
Ivy might not ever be best friends with them, but if she had her kitten-free zone, that should help. Good thing to have the 2 babies so they can play with each other and give Ivy a break.
Your warden/inmate scenario is right on.
Living with kittens, however, provides neverending delight and entertainment. They are so beautiful.
Ivy’s zone is my bedroom. In the evenings, she always spends time with me there. The two littlest inmates have the guest room then.
Just let them run now…she will let them know if she does not want them around…she may never like them but will have to tolerate them…you have to let them know the mantel is a no cat zone…good luck…they are so cute…
They can’t be still long enough to do too much damage around here.
Sadly, we here in Southern California are on the opposite end of the weather spectrum. Very low humidity, gusty winds, and no rain. My home is safe, but our communities have been destroyed by wildfires. There are no words.
A whole area was wiped out. That is so terribly sad for the people who lost their homes and everyone else who lived in the area.
Waiting for the snow to start in NC. We are expecting a messy night tonight and tomorrow morning.
Hopefully Ivy will get used to the kittens soon, and she just needs some time to get used to all that kitten energy, and energy kittens do have!
I take them to another room often so she can escape their kittenish energy.
It’s been snowing here in WV for 10 days and they are predicting about 4 to 6 more inches overnight and into Saturday. With more snow next week.
Wow! That’s a long time. Is it deep?
We have 18 1/2 inches now.
We had more snow yesterday here in Dallas than we usually have all year. This is also the first cold weather since winter last year. It usually snows in February if at all. How would your kitties behave if only one was with Ivy at a time?
Sometimes she is around them one at a time. One might take a nap and the other one still be awake for a while.
