I’m chomping at the bit to see houses. But I have to wait for Kendra to locate them and then look at them herself. She said she didn’t want to drag me out unless she’d already checked into them and thought they were worthy of me seeing.

I know whatever house I find will be small, probably under 1000 square feet. Most likely 800-900. Hopefully It will have been built in the thirties or forties. I prefer that era. It will probably be a two bedroom and one bath house. Hopefully there will not be a gigantic yard for me to deal with.
It would be nice if there was a patio or porch or deck for me to put my chairs on so I’d be able to sit outside and watch the birds. A rocking chair might be nice. I haven’t had a rocking chair in some time.
The Packing:
I need to start packing, but it’s hard to pack when you don’t know where you’re going. Or maybe I’m just putting it off. I kind of feel in limbo right now, waiting mode.
I ordered Amazon’s U-Haul Kitchen Moving Kit. It has 1 Dish Packing Kit, 1 Glass Packing Kit, 5 Medium Boxes, Packing Paper, Cushion Foam, Tape, 2 Box Markers, and 1 Box Knife.

It’s in a tall skinny box and I have stored it, unopened, in the hallway. I have sturdy plastic tubs in front of the fireplace that I ordered weeks ago. Maybe they will be what I pack essentials in that I would be using immediately.
I read that it’s best to have one spot where you pack boxes. I’ve chosen a table in the second bedroom. It has stuff on it now, but I’ll clean it off and sit in the chair and pack boxes and tape them up.
What TV Series I’m Currently Watching:
I finished watching a two-season series called “Crime” on BritBox. I’ve found that Scottish accents are the hardest for me to understand.
The main character, Detective Inspector Ray Lennox, is burdened by memories of a childhood trauma he suffered. And it’s an image and an event that he can’t emotionally let go of.
Dark Winds:

So then last night I began watching “Dark Winds” on Netflix. Apparently AMC committed to a Season 3 for this show. It is based on the “Leaphorn & Chee” novel series by Tony Hillerman. I’m not sure if I’ve read any of his books or not.
The show is set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation. It follows an FBI investigation into a bank robbery in Gallup, New Mexico. Then there’s the tribal inquiry into the local murder of two Native residents.
The star of “Dark Winds” is Zahn McClarnon. I keep trying to remember where what show I saw him on. Oh yes! He was in “Longmire!”

If you didn’t recognize the name (and I didn’t) and you watched “Longmire”, you’ll recognize him from this photo of him that I found on Facebook.
I mentioned that it’s set in the early seventies. And I found myself thinking that those old cars they were using sure looked older than what I recall at that time. Isn’t it funny how you look at things through the lens of the past and it seems different?
Greg told me it’s a good series, so I’ve watched one episode and am beginning the second episode tonight. Have you seen this series? If so, tell me what you thought about it.
What Book I’m Reading:
I finished reading a book called “The Nanny” last night. It was okay, not great. I tend to read 2-3 books a week reading only at night.
Maybe I’ll start reading this book tonight: “The Baker’s Apprentice” by Judith Ryan Hendricks. However, I just noticed that it is the second book in the Bread Alone Series. So reading that one probably isn’t the best choice, and I don’t think I have the first one.
I read “The Silent Patient” last week. It had one heck of an ending.
I haven’t purchased a book in months. I’m still going through a stack I purchased through Thriftbooks. I told you how you could save on used books online at Thriftbooks some months ago. I’m still reading those books that came in one order!
Sally Rooney has a new book I’d like to read. It is called “Intermezzo.” And Rachel Hanna has a book called “Bucket List” I’d be interested in reading.
Every Last One:

I think I’m going to read Anna Quindlen’s “Every Last One.” I’ve read it as some point in the past, I know. But I read a lot of books and I forget the plots. So I’m going to read it again. I think I’ve read all of her books, or most of them. This one was written some years ago.
It’s about a woman who has built her life around her family. One of her teenage sons becomes depressed and she focuses on him. Then she is blindsided by a shocking act of violence.
On the 7th and 8th, tomorrow and the next day, is the October Prime Big Deal Days sale at Amazon. You might want to take advantage of this sale, as you might find what you need at a cheaper price.

If you are a member of NextDoor or maybe Facebook Marketplace, you can place a notice/post that you are seeking packing boxes and materials…people move in and very often want to give theirs away (free) to others getting ready to move.
Free is always good. Recycling is good too.
Wishing you good luck in finding the right house. I am sure your daughter will find the right one for you. I am so glad I bought my house 10 years ago. I could not afford to rent now much less buy anything.
I believe that actors name is Lou Diamond.
So now you’re going to start looking at small houses, too? I might’ve previously missed that. Will you then just contract a lawn service for lawn mowing and snow removal?
I read the Bread Alone series years ago and loved it. Definitely start with the first book.
I enjoyed ‘Dark Winds’. I support you in your move. I found that packing while you watch a good movie is a great way to proceed. Pack what you definitely need regardless of where you move to. Do not procrastinate. Make piles to decide. God bless you. Annie
That’s a great idea! Itโs like a welcome distraction. Or she could listen to a good podcast while she packs!
Brenda, I just know Kendra is going to find you perfect place to live! I know itโs stressful, but she understands your situation, and has a vested interest in you, so she will make it happen for you. Try not to stress and let her do her thing. Sheโs a professional. She knows what sheโs doing, and she wants to do this for you. Your job will be to organize your things and begin the packing process. Deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. Maybe your daughters can help you with that too, but try to just concentrate on the things you can control, and trust she will get you situated in a lovely, safe home, on time and on budget. Iโm so happy you did a Sunday snippets!! I love them. Howโs Ivyโs diet coming along? It was nice to hear you mention Greg. Glad heโs still with you. How are all your other neighbors doing? We need an update on them too, lol.
I love Dark Winds, it’s one of my favorite shows. I am very excited for season 3!
I like the Amazon moving kit! Kitchen should be easy peasy for you. I like the packing bags on Amazon. Quite a few different ones to choose from, right now a lot are on sale. This one caught my eye, 8 Pack Large Strong Moving Bags with Zippers & Carrying Handles – Water-Resistant – Heavy Duty Storage Tote for Space Saving, Fold Flat, Alternative to Moving Box (Semi-Transparent). Anyway something to look into, with clothes just put into bags, can see what’s in them which makes it easy to unpack. I know it’s hard to not know what happens next, you are so lucky to have a daughter that knows the ins and outs, you will be fine! I love when you post the homes and condos with pictures. Fun to see what’s out there.
You are certainly busy, busy busy and so organized. Don’t stress – just enjoy the journey. You’ll be in a different home before you know it. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Wishing smooth sailing with your move. Everyone dreads packing. Good to start early. I enjoyed reading the update on your family. I like your new format, pictures and as always the content of whatever you write! I am glad to see you are posting more often. Have a wonderful week!
I didn’t know you could buy boxes or bubble wrap and whatever you need for moving. That has to help you a lot, instead of going to the grocery stores, and asking them if they have any large boxes for moving. That is what I did when we moved here 13 years ago. And my sister-in-law worked where she could get me a few boxes. But, I never really had enough. Like you, I had plastic totes for collectables, so that was a big help. So many books, and I remember how heavy those boxes were, but I kept most all of my books, except some oldies from way way back.
Anyway, I know you have a huge job ahead of you, and you are very smart to get started early. Good luck…
I once had moved 2 times in 2 years . The 2nd time I started packing at least 3-4 months before I moved . I got rid of things both times packing and again unpacking . I read a lot so I had a lot of books I didnโt want to move . Back then I took them to half priced books , Iโm not sure how they are now . As I was packing I just knew if I wanted to move it or give it to a thrift store . I stacked my boxes in the spare room . Good luck .
I learn so much from you! I had no idea that Amazon had boxes for sale!
Also, I very much enjoyed yesterday’s post on Family, warts and all ๐
I’m glad! The last couple of posts brought my traffic up so I made more money. Guess I’ll try to write what you tend to like most!
