Today in Sunday Snippets 7.27.25…

It’s hot here, as we’re nearing August. Now I’m looking forward to fall weather. We won’t have that till probably sometime in November.

In Sunday Snippets 7.27.25, this is my feature photo.

My friend Rhonda and I went to a few thrift stores and antique malls. That was fun.

Kendra’s Job Doing A Coffee Bar Addition:

Kendra finished a coffee bar job for a woman she knows. She usually doesn’t do this type of work, but did it as a special favor for her.

This was a quick pic she took on her way out, as she completed the job while the woman was on vacation. The job was $20,000.

2 Movies I Watched This Week:

Fear Of Rain:

Fear of Rain is streaming at Prime Video.
Amazon Prime Video

In the movie, Fear of Rain, a girl living with schizophrenia struggles with terrifying hallucinations as she begins to suspect her neighbor has kidnapped a child. The only person who believes her is Caleb, a boy she isn’t even sure exists.

Life After You: Everything in the Lajterman’s life was good. They had three healthy kids, successful jobs, and a community of neighbors and friends with whom they interacted regularly. When they find their youngest son, Danny, dead in his bedroom from an overdose, their entire world is turned upside-down.

What Series I’m Streaming:

I watched the last few episodes of Animal Kingdom yesterday.

Animal Kingdom is streaming on Prime Video.
Amazon Prime Video

Animal Kingdom revolves around Joshua “J” Cody, a 17-year-old who moves in with his estranged, criminal family in Southern California after his mother dies of a drug overdose.

Mindhunter:

Mindhunter on Netflix.
IMDb

Then I began watching Mindhunter, set in the 1970s, and ended up watching 3-hour-long episodes on Netflix. It’s excellent! Too bad they stopped at 2 seasons.

In an article last week, “Mindhunter” star Holt McCallany revealed that he has spoken with David Fincher about the potential return of the acclaimed Netflix serial killer drama, which ran for two seasons in 2017 and 2020. The show centered on FBI agents in the late 1970s as they launched a task force to interview serial killers as a way of understanding their pathology.

If “Mindhunter” does return, however, it won’t be as a series. McCallany said there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies.

IMBd

Holt McCallany is in the new Netflix series The Waterfront.

What It’s About:

Catching a criminal often requires the authorities to gain insight into the villain’s mind to understand how they think. That’s the job of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench. They attempt to understand and catch serial killers by studying their damaged psyches.

Along the way, the agents pioneer the development of modern serial-killer profiling. The crime drama boasts a strong pedigree behind the camera, with Oscar-nominated director David Fincher and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron among its executive producers.

The Book I’m Reading:

I finished reading She's Gone book by David Bell.
Amazon

In the novel, She’s Gone, by David Bell, 17-year-old Hunter Gifford wakes in the hospital on the night of homecoming. He’s shocked to learn he and his girlfriend, Chloe Summers, have been in a terrible car accident. Hunter has no memory of the crash, and his shock turns to horror when he is told Chloe’s blood has been found in the car―but she has disappeared.

Back at school, his fellow students taunt him, and his former best friend begins making a true-crime documentary about the case — one that points the finger directly at Hunter. And just when things can’t get any worse, Chloe’s mother stands in front of the entire town at a candlelight vigil and accuses Hunter of murder.

Under mounting pressure from the police, Hunter takes matters into his own hands by questioning anyone who might know the truth and posting videos to prove his innocence. When Hunter learns that he and Chloe were seen arguing loudly outside the dance, he faces a sickening possibility. Was he angry enough to kill the person he loved?

What are you doing on this hot July Sunday?

We got up at 5:30, made coffee and loaded up the 3 dogs, drove 8 miles to a place where we can walk with no people and no motorcycles and no random gunshots out in the hills, came back ,fed dogs, shut all the windows to keep the cooler temperature in the house, went out and pulled 266 onions to cure in the shop for a month, picked cucumbers, zucchini and green beans, rototilled where the onionswere, watered all the flower pots and beds.Took the cured garlic that was drying and put it inside the mud room for the winter. Tomorrow is back to work. We are 62.

  3. Kendra did a beautiful job on the coffee bar. I love the tiles! They’re kind of retro looking. I spent the day relaxing in the pool. It was the perfect way to stay cool on a very hot afternoon.

Kendra does great work!! Your plants look so nice and healthy!! What am I doing on this hot day….heh, getting ready to try out a new recipe (with my necessary changes due to allergies etc, of course) to make Apple Crisp without oats since the apples in fridge need using up. Have not found ANY ice cream made of nondairy that I can eat anymore (cause the dummies all put tapioca in it, which for me is worse than the real stuff)….but I found a coconut milk “popcycle” that tastes just fine like ice cream, so will put that on top of my apple crisp and see how that goes!! By the way, will be baked in my good-sized toaster oven which does not heat the house to the same degree as the regular oven.

    1. Which reminds me that I have not made apple crisp in AGES! Probably 20 or more years. I need to make it!

  5. OMG! $20,000 just for a coffee bar! Wow.

    1. She texted me the photos of the coffee bar, then put $20K after it. So I’m not certain whether she charged that or it cost that or what exactly she meant. I’ll have to ask her.

  6. WOW! The coffee bar is fantastic!
    Kendra did a beautiful job.
It’s also very hot here and I am looking forward to Fall but that probably won’t make an appearance until sometime in October, if I’m lucky! I’d just be thankful for some rain right now.

    1. I was just outside watering and I wished it would rain too!

  7. Wow! The coffee bar! At first I thought “$20k for a coffee bar? Hmmm”…..then I saw the photo! Amazing. And Kendra truly gets her artistic taste from mom!

    1. I will ask Kendra what she meant. She just wrote $20K on the text. But then it looks like there’s a small beverage fridge, etc. Lumber alone is not cheap
