Someone asked to see the kitchen, so today I’m sharing views of it.

I wanted to have the curtains up before I showed it again, but I’m having trouble finding the correct sizes for the windows in this old house. So, it’s taking longer than expected to order and hang them.

Views Of My Kitchen show this corner looking in from the doorway.

The wad of white paper towel underneath the cabinet is to keep the kittens’ toys from getting inside. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to fetch them.

Initially, I shoved paper towels in there because Daisy got inside the dead space of the kitchen cabinet, which scared me silly until she came back out.

New Round Knobs:

Kendra put new knobs on the cabinet doors the other day.

The cabinet door knobs were square and stuck out more, so Kendra went to Home Depot and picked up round knobs.

But we haven’t purchased anything for the drawers because you can’t open them all the way yet.

She said the drawer problem was because this was her first flip house, and she trusted the carpenter to know what to do. He should have spaced those corner cabinets farther apart so you could open both corner drawers. But it is what it is. I can live with it.

My daughter has since learned that you can’t always rely on a subcontractor to do the job. Now, she drives around to her properties and inspects things during the renovations.

My kitchen sink and the window over it.

The Eat-In Kitchen:

I enjoy having a table in my kitchen where I eat all my meals. When I’m having trouble walking, it’s so much easier to hold onto things instead of constantly using a cane or walker. I grew up eating in this type of kitchen.

It just doesn’t make sense to carry food back and forth from the kitchen to the adjoining dining room. So when it’s just one of my daughters or my granddaughter and me, we eat in the kitchen. When there’s a bigger crowd, we use the dining room.

My stove and a corner of my kitchen.

The kitchen has not had many changes since I moved in last November. Before I moved in, I installed a new white countertop and added a new refrigerator.

I had the table against the wall, but then I needed more space along the wall for more kitty bowls. So I turned it around, and now it juts out more into the kitchen space.

There’s no problem getting around it, so it’s fine as is.

My refrigerator I purchased before I moved in, and the view of the kitchen window over the sink.

New Area Rugs:

Because of the rambunctious kitties, I had to adhere the kitchen and hallway rugs to the floor. When they play, they sometimes move the rugs around. Now, there’s less chance of me tripping and falling.

My dining table where I eat meals.

I have grown accustomed to having gray cabinets. At first, it bothered me because I’d never used gray in my home. But gray is considered a neutral color, and I’m okay with it.

No matter where I stand, the images look uneven because of the old floors, so keep that in mind as you look at these photos. Mamie is 104 years old.

The last thing I have focused on in this house is area rugs. I have most of them down now. Now I need to deal with the window treatments, because it will be hot soon, and there are a lot of windows to cover!

Two entire walls in the blue TV room are made of windows, so it gets hot despite the air conditioning. I don’t want to close that room off because of the spring and summer seasons. But I haven’t quite figured out what sort of window treatment I want in there.

I’m sure the kitchen will change over the years, and I’ll show you those changes as they happen.

Your kitchen is so pretty and cozy.

    1. Thank you!

  2. Yay! Finally! Looks wonderful. I actually like the table that juts out a bit. Makes it more part of the room and since the table isn’t large it looks great. Very nice!

    1. I like the table this way too. When I’m having a hard day and limping around, I can hold onto it.

  3. Did you realize how much white ware you had before you moved into this kitchen ? That’s a lot! And it looks great up there too. I like my curtains at window sill length and I put blackout curtains in the bedrooms specifically for temperature control.

    1. I’m trying to decide whether I want window sill or floor length in the little TV room.

  4. Everything looks beautiful. Very pretty

I started watching you way back when you were in TX. I don’t see every article, but I like your style of decorating.

    1. I’m glad you like it. My style is kind of eclectic, a bit of everything. Probably mostly cottage style.

Hi Brenda, After a long time I wanted to see if you had moved and I’m so glad I found you again. Mamie makes me soooo happy to see how you have fixed her up with your cozy feels. I’m jealous, though I like my home, I still want to cozy it up more and change it up. You have really inspired me to get these bones moving!! Congratulations for all that you have accomplished. 1. I often just switch things up and live with it for a few days before I come to a decision.

  7. I love how you have decorated your new kitchen! The white pitchers and dishes on top of the dark gray cabinets lighten up the space. And I love your colorful rug and tablecloth. Beautiful crown molding in your kitchen, too.

    1. I LOVE the crown molding here! I didn’t have any before.

  8. Please tell us where you got the gingham tablecloth. It looks like oilcloth. I would love something similar.

    1. I ordered it on Amazon.

  9. THe kitchen looks lovely but I can’t help but think of all the effort getting up and down off ladders to get the pitchers, etc. down if you want to use them. And even if you don’t it’s a lot of work to get them down periodically to clean them. But I guess if you aren’t going to do it yourself, it doesn’t matter. I do my own cleaning and I wouldn’t want to even if I was years younger. But it looks really nice if that’s your goal.

    1. Teri arranged the pitchers on top of the cabinets when I first moved in. They’ll just have to get dusty because I’m not getting up there!

  10. The kitchen looks really nice. I like the small lamp on the table and the pretty green shakers.

  11. I love it! When you first showed the empty house, that kitchen looked a little gloomy to me. But of course, you’ve worked your magic and it’s now warm and cozy and inviting and perfect! No wonder your family of four is so happy there!

  12. I think your kitchen is pretty and practical. Not sure I’d want to put up window curtains either unless they’re white to keep the room bright, but if your goal is to block out sunlight in the hot summer months then white might not work. Frankly, I don’t know what would work to block out heat from sunlight but still let light come through for your plants, especially in the TV room where you have quite a few plants if my memory serves me correctly (it doesn’t always work the way it used to!) The drawer issue, inset cabinet pulls might allow you to pull out either of the corner drawers out further than currently possible because the drawer wouldn’t be stopped by the existing drawer pull on the other corner cabinet. There are some pretty ones out there – saw a couple different styles/colors offered at Etsy for under $10 each (I did a quick search online to see if such a pull existed, and they do, in all price ranges).

    1. The house plants are in the small office next to the back door. They get lots of light there.

  13. Brenda, your kitchen is darling..love the cabinet colors….are you sure you want curtains? I like the window as is, love the lighting over the sink. Mamie is a wonderful home.

    1. Depends on the heat that window allows into the kitchen. It’s western sun.

      1. When I lived in Moore, OK my kitchen faced West. It was so hot. We replaced the window with a crank out window that was tinted. Blocked the sun, still let in light and my kitchen was much cooler. You may not want to replace the window but maybe put some of that tinted window film on the existing window. Just a thought. I love your house by the way.

Brenda, I agree with Pam about the film/window tint. It works wonders on cutting down the heat in bright, sunny areas. Your daughters could put it up for you. It is like putting up wallpaper on your windows. You can see out, but the sun is diminished shining in. We use it on our south and west facing windows along with blinds and blackout curtains. It really helps with keeping the rooms cool and costs down for running the air conditioning.

          1. Thanks! I’d forgotten about window tint.
