A New Rug & How To Match Paint

I ordered a new rug for the dining room. Maria and her husband laid it down for me when she came to clean the other day.
I think it’s the perfect color. The colors came together nicelyโjust what I was going for. Ordering something online without knowing if the color will work in the room is not always easy.

I decided on this new green and off-white rug because the dining room is the central room in my house.
To match my way of thinking, consider a starburst with the dining room representing the sun and the area rugs in the adjoining rooms representing the sun’s rays.
Then, with the more neutral rug in the dining room, I chose more vibrant and colorful rugs for the other rooms.

In other words, this dining room rug is the common denominator complementing the other rugs.

I think the shade of green in the rug matches the color of the coffee bar quite well.
I’ve never tired of this apple green paint, Crushed Oregano, that I painted various pieces of furniture years ago. I still love it as much as the day I picked it out at Lowe’s.
The paint is called Valspar Crushed Oregano. I don’t know if you can even buy it anymore, but Kendra bought a quart size of this shade of green before I moved, so I have that for touch-ups.
How To Match Paint On Your Wall, Etc:
Do you know how to take a photo of your wall color or furniture and have them recreate the right shade of paint at the store?
To take a photo of a wall to get the same shade of paint, use your phone’s camera to capture a well-lit, clear image of the wall. Take a picture of the furniture in natural light.
Then, upload that photo to a paint company’s color-matching app or website tool to analyze the color and provide a close paint color match based on their available options. Most major paint brands offer this feature.
Ensure the room is well-lit when taking the photo to capture the wall color accurately. Avoid angles, as this might distort the color.
Most paint companies, such as Sherwin-Williams, Behr, and Benjamin Moore, have dedicated apps or online tools where you can upload your photo to match a paint color.ย

Here’s Ivy. You know how cats usually are. If there’s something new in the house, they must check it out. And then, here came Simon to sit on the new rug.
I think photos of Simon often look blurry because he’s so profoundly black.
Amazon Photos:
Here are two photos from Amazon, where I purchased the new rug for the dining room. Here is the link to the rug on Amazon. I bought the 8×10 foot size.

Here, you see Daisy checking out the rug. All three cats had to sit on it right away.
This room is the most unlevel, so images don’t come out level in one aspect or another. It always aggravates me when taking photos, but it is what it is. I keep telling myself that Mamie is over 100 years old.
Kitchen Rug:

Maria and her husband also put down the new kitchen rug for me. I hope these area rugs will help ease the pain in my knee joints. Padding should help, I would think.
I’ll do another post on the kitchen soon.
The Living Room Rug:
The new green rug in the dining room closely matches the green of the living room rug, the first rug I ordered for the house.
Now, most of the rooms have area rugs on the floor. I still need to order rugs for the guest room and possibly the office/craft room.

I love the new rug! Simple pattern and neutral and yet pretty. Since it’s both for inside and out, is it rough under your feet? It looks SO nice in your room.
Very pretty. Do you not find them to be a trip hazard? We’re getting new flooring in a few weeks. What a task. But I worry about tripping now. LOL. The kitchen rug is really pretty too, but we haven’t seen pics of the whole kitchen yet. ๐
I’m affixing the runner area rugs to the floor with carpet tape. And no, I don’t trip over the bigger area rugs.
I love the color of the rug…I also have a round table in my dining area, and I chose a round rug to soften the squareness of the room.
I thought about getting a round rug, but it’s a long room, so I chose a rectangular rug.
Great choices! I always like to see rugs in dining areas that are big enough so the chair legs won’t get caught in them.
Me too!
It looks very pretty Brenda! I too love that color of green you have used on your furniture. Also love your kitchen rug.. love the black and the bright colors. Your home is so lovely and cozy now! Anytime I get something new, my kitties have to totally check it out (sometimes my female has to pee on it also…. gr.r.r.) Not my male, but Ms. Queen. Usually only that one time to mark HER territory! Marilyn
So far they haven’t peed on my rugs. I recall that Ivy once peed on an area rug when she was a kitten at my first apartment.
Perfect rug for your dining room. Love the soft green. It’s so hard to find just the right rug, even in stores! I’m still on the lookout for one for my living room. I haven’t been able to find what I like in the size I need. I got lucky with the rugs for my bedroom and downstairs family room at HomeGoods.
I noticed your back door off your dining room. I have the same door with the shade inside it in my kitchen (which leads to one of our side yards). I like how you have all the plants there to catch the light, but how do you open the door without it banging into the plant stand?
The door never hits the baking rack with the plants. There is enough room on that side. Have you tried rugs.com? I bought the latest rug, a runner in my hallway, last week. They have a big selection.
Thatโs a really pretty rug in the dining room, and youโre right, it does go nicely with the coffee station cabinet. The cats all checking it out is so funny. So curious.
All three cats are very curious.
Brenda, I love your rugs! I have hardwood throughout my house and those big rugs help with arthritis feet!
Mamie is looking absolutely wonderful! I enjoy seeing everything you do.
I’ll get around to window treatments one of these days. I have blackout curtains in my bedroom. I felt I should go ahead and get rugs due to my knee pain.
Now your cleaning person will have to move the table and chairs and clean under the rug and move it all back.
No, I told her to just vacuum and not worry about mopping. I like things clean, but I don’t overthink it.
oh brother. really
The rugs are beautiful. I do hope the kitchen rug will help you. Enjoyed the pics of all the cats giving the rug their approval! Simon looks like he is going to be a big boy. They are growing so fast.
He is getting bigger every day, it seems. And he manages to find a way to get into trouble more than the girls.
I’ve been reading your blog from the time you lived in Tyler. This is the perfect house for you. I read the latest blog posts with a mixture of envy and jealousy. I love how everything is coming together.
Thank you! When I landed in this house, I swore I’d never move again.
it’s perfect for you and the kitties. Everything looks so cozy and beautiful.
Your Mamie gets lovelier each day. I so enjoy seeing the progress. The kitties all seem to be adjusting to each other too.
Everything will get done. But it’s expensive to do everything quickly. So it’s a little at a time.
I love everything youโve done to make Mamie look so beautiful! Love the new rugs in the dining room and kitchen! I am so glad my houseplants look ok after being gone for three weeks! Your plants are looking good and I am sure you are thinking of plants for the outside too. Enjoy your day!
Yes, I’ve been thinking about plants for my front porch.
Your home has really come together since I was there. It looks very cozy. Hope to see you soon.
I know how much you love area rugs!
