Colorful Home Office Rug

I ordered this colorful home office rug from Amazon a few weeks ago for this small space. The office is just a little “afterthought” of a room tacked to the back of the house, with the TV room alongside it.

This room is so small that I only needed a 5 x 7 area rug for the office.

In this Colorful Home Office Rug, I chose this pattern because I love flowers and plants.

(Note: The brown stuff you see in front of the back door is not dirt. It is cinnamon, which I sprinkled to keep the ants out of the house.)

When you consider the exterior, I think this is probably the most colorful home I’ve ever lived in. It’s like a crayon box full of colors. You can even see pink here and there, a color I’ve rarely used in my home.

Why I Chose A Dark Rug:

As this room leads out the back door, I wanted a rug with a dark background to hide dirt from shoes that might be dirty after coming from the backyard.

I think of this colorful home office rug as “my happy rug.”

I’ve also purchased a 5-foot rug long for the bathroom (in shades of green) and another rug for the guestroom (also in shades of green).

I don’t have the one in the guest room laid out yet. I’ll have to wait until someone is here to lift up the end of the bed so I can slip it underneath.

I’ll show you those area rugs another day when I have them both laid out.

A Colorful Home Office Rug leads to the TV room, where the rug is blue and white. You can see the baker's rack by the back door.

How I Chose This Colorful Home Office Rug Patterns:

As I’ve probably mentioned, I added rugs with more pattern and color in every other room and those with less color in between. I didn’t want it to look too chaotic in color as you’re led from one room to another.

This idea was just what this little house needed in terms of cohesiveness, almost like breadcrumbs left on the path by Hansel and Gretel.

The dining room area rug is green and cream, and the TV room rug is blue and white, so this more colorful rug is in between the two.

I chose a black background with colorful flowered rug for this room. The gold in the upholstered office chair matches well.

Why Add Area Rugs To Rooms:

Area rugs offer numerous benefits beyond decoration. They add comfort and warmth and can improve a room’s acoustics by absorbing sound. Rugs also protect floors from damage, define spaces, and contribute to a room’s overall visual appeal.

1. Comfort and Warmth

  • Rugs provide a soft and comfortable surface underfoot, especially in rooms with hard flooring like wood or tile.
  • They add warmth and coziness to a visual and physical space.
  • They can act as insulation in colder climates, keeping the room warmer.
  • Rugs add cushioned comfort.

2. Acoustic Enhancement

  • Area rugs reduce noise levels and echoes in a room. This is particularly beneficial in rooms with hard surfaces, which tend to amplify sound.
  • Rugs can help create a more pleasant, quieter atmosphere.

3. Floor Protection

  • Rugs protect floors from scratches, dents, and wear and tear caused by furniture movement and foot traffic.
  • You can get washable rugs, making them easier to clean.
  • Because area rugs are often made of soft, absorbent materials, they easily soak up any damage before reaching your permanent flooring.

4. Defining Spaces and Creating Focal Points

  • Rugs can define different areas within a room, especially in open-concept spaces.
  • They can act as a focal point, drawing attention to a special area or piece of furniture.
  • Area rugs can help tie together various design elements and create a cohesive look.

5. Decorative Appeal

  • Rugs offer a versatile design element.
  • They can add color, pattern, and texture to a room, making it more visually appealing.
  • A rug can be a statement piece, adding a unique touch to your home.

6. Other Benefits

  • Rugs can help anchor furniture, making it feel more grounded and less like floating.
  • They can also help brighten up a dark room.
  • Area rugs are easier to clean than wall-to-wall carpeting.
  • Rugs are more transportable than wall-to-wall carpeting.
  • A rug can cover imperfections in your flooring.
A Colorful Home Office Rug was just what this room needed to make it stand out..

Preserving your floors is one of the best reasons to invest in area rugs for your home. Although you may have to move the rug occasionally to clean underneath it, you won’t find any scratches, dents, or stains when you lay it back down.

It is very important to ensure that area rugs are secured to the floor, especially for older individuals who are more likely to fall. Rug adhesive products can help with this problem.

  1. What a pretty rug! I like how colorful it is. I have several area rugs. I notice I get a lot of dust bunnies, and I’ve always wondered if my rugs are shedding. Do you have that problem? When we bought our house, the wood floor in the living room had a “damaged” spot that was all scratched up. I said, “That looks like a good spot for an area rug,” lol.

  6. I love the new rug Brenda, it’s a happy rug! I’m shopping for one for my guest room right now. At the present I’m painting and wallpapering that room. I do this very slowly 1 wall at a time only 1 each day until it’s done. Ive done my living room, dining room and master bedroom this year. Paint and new rugs can change everything.
