Friday Thoughts & Kitten Mischief

It has been somewhat warmer this week, and it seems all the lingering snow is gone. I’m sitting here in my chair, enjoying the light streaming through the three windows in the living room.
In the last two places I lived before moving into this old house, there were fewer windows. I didn’t get to enjoy the sunlight pouring in, painting temporary spots across the furniture. But in this old house, there are 18 windows.

Daisy is lying here next to me on the folded blankets folded up on the upholstered bench. She has become much more social in the past month, wanting to be near me or lying on my chest for short periods.
She is such a sweet baby. All of my kitties are. I cherish having them in my little family.
Electrical Woes:
On Wednesday, I cooked a potato-hamburger soup in the crockpot, simmering it all day. After I ate that evening, I put the leftovers in glass containers with lids to store them in the fridge. When I opened the refrigerator door, I noticed the front lights were off, and it was dark inside.
I went into the laundry room, where the fuse box is, and flipped the switches. Nothing. Kendra came over, and it was the GFCI outlet. She fixed it. Could something electrical be going wrong? Could that be something having to do with the washer going out?
I keep my counter dry because I’ve had tiny, dot-like insects occasionally gather around the faucet. So every time I turn on the water and turn it off, I wipe the area with a dish rag to make sure there are no water spots.
But I know Kendra updated all the electrical work in the past 15 years. So now, every time I go into the kitchen, my eyes go straight to the refrigerator to make sure the lights are still on. I’ll keep you updated.
I’ve used the new washer and dryer once, but today I’ll be doing laundry again.

Trash Service:
I don’t know if they have this city service where you live. But here, the trash department will come to get your outdoor city trash can if you’re disabled. I think you can pay $30 a month to have them do it if you aren’t disabled. But I’m considered disabled, and they do this free for me.
However, in the last few weeks, they haven’t been getting it. And for the past week, my trash can has been overflowing because they haven’t been emptying it.
I called the city today, and they said the white dot painted on the curb, indicating they’re to come pick up the trash can, might have faded. So they’re sending someone out to take care of that, so I can get my trash picked up again.
This is a wonderful service if you struggle to deal with trash pickup yourself. I tried to roll it down to the curb yesterday for today’s trash pickup, but it was so heavy I couldn’t manage it. Going down the driveway with it is tricky because of the steep section toward the street.
If you’re disabled, you can always check to see whether your city offers this service. It sure comes in handy!
When Maria was here yesterday, she rolled it to the curb for me. They emptied it, but didn’t bring it back. Earlier, I noticed that Smitty next door, whom I gave the dryer to, had brought the trash can back from the curb for me. He’s nice that way.
It’s the bushes in his yard that the kittens love to watch the birds fly into. They’re good neighbors. We check on and keep an eye out for one another. They’re the ones who alert me when they see someone walking up to or around my porch that look unfamiliar.
Look what I discovered the kittens did. They must have chewed through the wire antennae on the back of my CD player!

Current Tulsa Weather:
It’s cold outside today, I noticed when I fed the outdoor cats and handed Smitty the dryer manual. He’s getting ready to take the dryer down to the basement to hook it up.
I’ve got my little electric stove on now, having been out on the porch talking to him for a little while.
I don’t have any plans for the weekend. Kasi and Andrew are going to their new lake house. I’ve no idea what Kendra’s plans are. She’s always working at one or another of the houses she deals with. I think one of her renters moved out of her duplex.
Before too long, I’ll be seeing little green dots on the branches through the windows close to this chair. I always love to see that first little sign of spring emerging. Planting will be here before too awful long, too, and it will be my second summer living in this house.
What are your weekend plans? Anything special?

We’re having what they call a false spring. It’s been in the 50’s and 60’s the past few days. Glorious! Will be depressing to go back to cold weather, but it’s February in Illinois, so that’s the way it goes here.
Very strange with the electrical problems. I hope the fridge thing was just a fluke.
I have no idea if our garbage pickup company offers any kind of service like you mentioned for those with a disability. I don’t think so – I’ve never read anything about that on their website or bills. And I don’t have any nearby disabled neighbors, so not sure.
Every time I see a picture of your kitchen I love it more! The cabinet color is so pretty! I bet the kitties love watching the birds. Mine use to chatter at them. What a strange sound! So long ago now!
We are getting warmer temps for the next few days! 50’s on Monday! Cooler after that, but it beats the below zero weather we had. Wisconsin!
It’s getting to be the season where you don’t know how to dress.
I hope your fridge is alright!
Have a great evening.
Your neighbors are sweet. I love how they look out for you. Do you still get together with Steve? I haven’t heard you mention him in a while. We don’t have any particular plans this weekend. We’ll probably just watch the Olympics. Maybe order some take out tomorrow night. I hope you and your 3 little valentines have a perrrfectly lovely day tomorrow. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
I haven’t seen Steve in a while. He usually calls me when he gets his haircut, not far from here.
Nothing special for the weekend. I even told my husband not to dare bring me chocolates! I still have sweet snacks left over from Christmas.
We have woods in back of our home. I watch for, and am delighted by, the way spring green comes creeping up from the bottom….just a sprinkling, followed by low parts of bushes, then crawling up the trees until….boom! ….everything newly bright and vivid green! But those “little green dots” are what excites me the most!
I completely forgot about Valentine’s Day!
In the apts here, trash is picked up at your door, but only 4 nights a week. They take it to the big cans on the property which you can use as well. Tho it is quite a walk from us so sometimes our son or daughter takes away excess stuff. For the most part those 4 nights a week is enough. They have been skipping us about 1-2 times a week of late tho so I wrote them a note and asked them please not to skip us as it is a hardship on us. The $25 extra for this service is added to our rent here and is not optional. I have not heard of a city doing what yours does, so glad for you that it is available.
Yes, I’m very grateful for this service.
