I had so much fun creating my serene green bedroom. When I walk through the bedroom door, the scene before me is so calming.
Maybe it is because green reminds us of gardens, leafy trees, and the feeling of being surrounded by nature.
A serene green bedroom can be made up of light green hues, dark green hues, or something in between. I chose dark green for my small bedroom.
This process doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. With the right shades, natural textures, and cozy lighting, you can turn your bedroom into a peaceful retreat where you can unwind comfortably at the end of the day.
Switching Paintings Above the Bed
Yesterday, I still had the painting with the dark wood frame above my bed. But then I decided it was too dark, and I went looking through my stash.
I switched the first painting for the lighter one. Which one do you like best? The lighter one pertains to gardening and flowers.

Choosing a Shade of Green
Soft sage, olive, and celadon are wonderful choices for a calming bedroom. These shades of green have an earthy quality that makes the room feel connected to nature.
For an especially peaceful look, consider using one color in several different tones. A pale sage wall might be paired with deeper olive bedding and small touches of moss green throughout the room.

Let Nature Inspire the Room
Green naturally lends itself to a nature-inspired bedroom. Bring in elements that remind you of the outdoors, such as houseplants or botanical artwork. You could add a small collection of plants on a nightstand or dresser.
All these touches turn your bedroom into a little garden retreat.
Add Natural Textures
A serene bedroom should feel as good as it looks. Layering natural textures can make green decor feel warm and inviting.
Try combining:
- Linen or cotton bedding
- A chunky knitted throw
- Wooden furniture
- Rattan or wicker accents
- Soft area rugs
- Quilts and vintage textiles
These materials keep green from feeling too formal and give the room a relaxed, lived-in quality.

This loden green velvet quilt is so soft and comfortable! It's a bit oversized in width. The quilt has an expensive look, comes in various colors, and is perfect for year-round sleeping.
Keep the Bedding Soft and Simple
Your bed should be the most inviting part of the room. White or soft beige furniture works beautifully with green bedding or green accent pieces.

I have the two small white dressers/night stands I ordered about four years ago on either side of my bed. The bedroom is small, just big enough for those three pieces of furniture and a dresser across the room with my TV.
I much prefer four standard-sized bed pillows for my full-size bed to having euro shams. Two of them are used in the evening to elevate my ankle. I use the other two for sleep.
I got such a great deal on this queen, somewhat oversized (96x90) floral botanical quilt. With a fresh, garden-plant-inspired aesthetic, it not only brightens your room but also ensures comfortable, restful sleep.
Use Cozy Lighting
Lighting can completely change the mood of a bedroom.
Instead of relying on one bright overhead light, create layers of lighting. Bedside lamps, small table lamps, and warm accent lights can make the room feel peaceful.
It creates that feeling of retreating from the busy world and finding comfort in your cozy bedroom.

Little Touches to Add
I’m thinking about adding a candle warmer lamp to fill the room with scents of the season. I especially like this one with a glass shade that resembles a flower. The shade comes in various colors, but of course I like the green one.
I added a vintage wooden box for my favorite magazines and decorating/gardening books to my nightstand.

Bring in Wood and Vintage Pieces
Green and wood are a natural combination. Think of tree trunks and leaves in nature. Wooden nightstands, an antique dresser, or even a vintage picture frame can warm up a green bedroom.
Don’t be afraid to mix old and new. A modern green bedroom can become much more personal when you add a few vintage treasures you’ve picked up along the way.
An old mirror, a thrifted lamp, or a special piece of artwork can give the room more personality and highlight what you love.
Keep Clutter Under Control
Serenity is difficult to achieve when the bedroom is overflowing with things. And if you have a small bedroom, it can look cluttered very quickly.
A peaceful bedroom should feel like a place where you can take a deep breath and relax.

Add Botanical Artwork
If you love the idea of a garden-inspired bedroom but don’t want lots of plants, botanical artwork is a good alternative.
Look for vintage-style prints featuring ferns, wildflowers, herbs, leaves, or detailed botanical illustrations. A collection of small framed prints can create a charming gallery wall above a dresser or bedside table.
For a cottagecore-inspired look, choose artwork that feels slightly aged rather than overly polished.
Create a Quiet Corner
If you have enough space, create a small space for reading.
A comfortable chair near a window, a small table, and a soft throw can turn an unused corner into a peaceful place to rest.
Don’t Forget the Curtains
Window treatments are another opportunity to add softness to your bedroom. I like a completely dark bedroom for sleep, so I have blackout curtains.

Make It Personal
The most serene bedrooms aren’t necessarily the ones you see featured in magazines. They’re the ones that feel like you.
Add the things that make you feel peaceful and calm: a treasured quilt, a vintage clock, or a little collection of things you’ve gathered over the years.
A Green Bedroom Can Feel Like a Little Escape
Whether you choose pale sage walls, mossy accents, botanical prints, or simply a few green plants, the result can be a bedroom that feels calm and welcoming.
There is a reason green has such a timeless appeal in home decorating. It brings a connection to the natural world and makes a bedroom feel inviting.
A monochromatic palette removes visual interruptions, allowing the eye to move freely across the room.
A serene green bedroom doesn’t need to be perfectly decorated. It just needs to feel like a place where you can close the door, turn down the lights, curl up beneath a soft blanket, and leave the rest of the world outside for a little while.

I like the lighter frame and I also like the idea of the candle warmer.
It’s kind of hard to believe that having all shades of green has just turned it into a really soothing room. Just a change in colors.

I like your Serene Green Bedroom!
It truly defines you..a lover of nature, tranquility and peace.
My opinion..i would move the two white framed florals to either side of the floral above the bed..having the bottom of all three even above the bed for a balanced look..
It is always a treat visiting you and seeing what you’ve been up to indoors..
It is simply too hot to be outdoors anywhere these days!
Thanks for sharing!
Well, now that’s not something I thought about. Kendra came in when I first moved in and arranged the paintings. Then I kept adding to what was already there. So it does look a bit unbalanced.
Oh so peaceful … love the botanical quilt. And I noticed you have beautiful corners on your crown molding. What a nice touch.
I love the crown molding. It’s the first time I’ve had something so pretty and old-fashioned.
I think I like the second picture you used. It’s a really pretty print and I like the light frame. I think that helps to balance out some of the dark elements. Your bedroom looks beautiful. You did a great job. It looks very serene and relaxing. I like the idea of the candle warmer to add a little scent in your room. Simon looks like he approves, lol.
Simon seems to approve, yes. I agree. The lighter frame just looks better.
