Kendra’s New Outdoor Addition

Kendra is adding a new outdoor addition to her home. After work, she goes outside with a beverage and listens to the birds. She’s my nature girl.

She decided to enhance her outdoor experience. An 18×18 extra patio has just been laid with cement, extending her patio. (We both had the same guy add cement this week.) There will be a tall roof, which I imagine will allow more air to move through the top.

I’ll be sure to show you photos when it’s finished.

This is Kendra's new outdoor addition to her patio.

She’s also having a fireplace built, and while she’s at it, Riley’s bedroom windows were replaced.

Kendra works hard, driving around to the job renovations for herself and the investors she works with, ensuring everything is done correctly. You’d be amazed how many of these guys don’t do what they’ve been told to do. Then, when they fail to do it, she has to find ways to fix it without going over budget.

She does a lot of the work herself on weekends. Last week, she tore down wallpaper. The weekend before that, she was breaking up and removing tiles. And she spent hours at my house doing things that needed to be done that I can no longer do. Like work in the attic.

A Strange Discovery At The Flip House:

A few days ago, she made a discovery at the flip house she’s renovating in Sand Springs. She uncovered a large Indian prayer circle. She asked one of her crew about it, as she was concerned with how much room it took up.

The guy said: “It’s an Indian prayer circle. Can’t go near it.”

Riley is home this weekend, and she asked him about it, thinking he might help her. He told her, “Uh-uh, you’re not getting me to go near that thing.”

Weeks ago, when she started clearing out things left behind, she kept finding clown marionettes and parts of clowns. Kendra said it was eerie. She’d think she had them all out of the property, and then she’d come across more of them.

No one has lived in that house for a long time. It’s out in the country, and the man who lived there had died some time ago. His daughter sold it to her.

A Place To Relax:

See her two dogs over to the right? That’s Thor and Lulu. You can see how much area was added to her existing patio. It’s a lovely patio and a place to grill hamburgers, but it will be even better with a roof.

Riley, her son, is 21 and finishing college this year. Marley is 16 and will be going to college in two years. Kendra will be an empty nester.

Last week, she had them install a French drain, as her yard always seems to flood when it rains.

A Gift She’s Giving Herself:

I told her she should give herself this gift because you should do nice things for yourself. Kendra’s new outdoor addition is costing her around $25,000, but she will enjoy it forever.

Kendra won’t have to go on vacation to find a relaxing retreat. She can sip wine out on the new addition with her boyfriend, whom I don’t think she’ll ever marry. She’s very independent and likes her personal space.

She likes to go hiking and vacation with him, and they typically do things on Saturday night or brunch on Sunday morning. Otherwise, she likes to do her own thing.

She purchased this house 3-4 years ago; I guess it’s her forever house. It’s a wonderful neighborhood a few blocks from the Gathering Place.

She tore down walls to make rooms bigger, as she typically does with almost all her properties. Before she moved in, she added a master bedroom and bath.

The front of my house with new cement added.

Cement Added To My Driveway:

This past week, I had the same landscaping company add 166 square feet of cement to either side of my driveway. They also added cement where the trash and recycling receptacles usually sit.

Where the trash cans are placed, I can put trash in them without walking down the steps, which is nice. But when it rains, those trash receptacles sit in mud.

I had some landscape work done at the apartment I recently lived in, thinking I’d live there the rest of my days. But that didn’t work out for me, so I now live in the house I call Mamie.

The cement where my trash cans will go.

As you can see, Kendra still hasn’t stained the wood railing she added for my safety. She’ll get to it soon, as she told me it would be a spring job. If my hands could hold a paintbrush, I would handle this task myself.

My old vintage garden sculptures have been in that space in front of the house since the day I moved in. It was November at that time, and there was too much to do to worry about garden art.

Garden Plans:

I’m unsure if I’ll start projects at the front of the house this year. The cement job was costly.

I will start my yearly gardening on the big porch with container plants. You can see one plant pot on the porch that Kasi brought from the backyard last week for me.

Since my porch is shaded, I must rely on shade plants—hostas, coral bells, creeping jenny, etc. I plan to put Boston ferns in that galvanized container (a beverage stand) on the porch near the front door.

About four galvanized containers with soil and two with emerging plants are still in the backyard. Kendra and her crew put them back there before my apartment lease was up, along with the Japanese maple you see in the front.

I’ll probably have the galvanized containers in the back brought to the front yard.

Brenda, I am so happy for you to have Mamie. And that Kendra is a wonder! I remember working like that! LoL…those days are gone. I can’t wait to see how your garden comes along. Oh, do you still have that tree “stump”, for a lack of a better word, that my son picked up with one hand when you moved to the first apartments? I still laugh about how we were kind of shocked!

    Have a good weekend.

  3. I’ve never heard of Indian prayer circles. A quick Google search says you need to contact the proper authorities before relocating them. And finding all the clowns is a little strange. Your driveway and Kendra’s patio look great! And your container garden will be lovely. I can’t wait to see them! I can’t believe Riley is about to graduate from college soon. It seems like he just left to begin. Time sure flies!

    1. Brenda, I agree with Laura.
Kendra needs to reach out to the proper authorities regarding the Indian Prayer Circle. I’m sure Kendra knows this, but you might gently remind her about this.

  4. Your plans seem to add comfort to each side.
What are the plans for the steps under the windows at your daughter’s home.
The time has passed quickly for your grandson’s graduation. Congratulations to him.
Your grass is so thick in your front yard. That would be fun to walk on.

  5. I’m loving the updates. I can see hanging baskets from your front porch roof. And how nice for you to be able to just flip your trash overboard from the porch!
Kendra’s back yard is great. Her two little pups seem to approve as well!

    1. It’s going to be a stunning addition. I’ll post pics when it’s finished.
