Pole Installed For Raised Water Hose

Kendra and one of her crew installed a pole to raise the water hose so I won’t have to go down the steps to turn the water on.
I’ll connect the hose to this connection and water the flowers on the porch and the plants on the ground in the flower beds.

This will make watering plants with bad knees and ankle much easier.
My left knee has been causing me problems this week. I guess I’ll have to order another knee brace and wear it on both knees. Such is life.
Aigar, her helper, poured cement around the pole to make it sturdy. I’ll lean over the porch railing to aim the hose at the garden beds and porch plants.
I had never met Aigar before. When I went outside to meet him, he jokingly asked me if I’d landscape his yard. He said his wife always has him plant flowers in places where they seem to die.
Some people don’t realize you must plant according to the plant’s exposure needs. Or they’re just wasting their money on plants that won’t do well in that space.
Photographing Flowers:

I am in heaven when I have flowers to photograph.
I had some bare spots in my containers, so I bought more flowers. It could be said that I lack good sense when buying flowers and plants.
Can’t have bare spots!
I was happy to find pineapple sage at the nursery, which they didn’t have last week when Kendra and I were there. But I still can’t locate lemon balm. There’s probably a patch of it back in my old yard that I wish I had now.

Something Neighbor Smitty Said To Me:
Smitty next door told me something funny earlier. The day before, he and his wife had worked in the yard until they were exhausted.
They slept in, so three cats were over here waiting for food. With four houses in a row feeding them, they probably eat well. I think Mark next door feeds them canned food. That’s a real treat.
Smitty and Tessa from next door bought a couple of Japanese maple trees for themselves last week.
Tessa & Smitty’s Yard:
They have many perennials, including a beautiful clump of purple creeping phlox spilling over a rock in their yard. They also have lots of irises and pretty flowering bushes.

She plants many seeds in preparation for spring planting. Their front yard is lush and filled with color.
Tessa is 42, so she’s much younger than I am, although she has health issues. Both she and Smitty have their share of medical problems.
I’ve never been in their house, but he has told me he has barstools here and there in his kitchen where he can sit down while he fixes food. His cats like to perch there to be petted when someone walks past.
He said he was so tired that he walked past one of the barstools and didn’t realize he was petting a sack of potatoes instead of a cat!
My Kitties:
The other day, I was standing at the refrigerator putting ice in my glass when some accidentally spilled on the floor. Simon and Daisy were on the ice on the floor immediately.
Later, I saw Simon lying on his back, his hind legs braced against the wall. He was pulling at the bottom of the freezer door with his front paws, trying to open it. I guess he figured out that’s where the ice came from.
Daisy likes to watch TV in my bedroom. I lie on my bed, and Daisy is at the end of the bed watching TV. She’s also the cat that locates bugs. If there is a bug or flying insect anywhere in this house, Daisy will find it.
This week, Simon has decided he likes standing outside the litter boxes and shoveling litter onto the floor. Litter isn’t cheap, and he makes a mess, so I hope I can break him of this habit soon.
Simon gets into all sorts of mischief. What will these cats think of to do next?
The New Japanese Maple Tree:

I love my new little Japanese maple. Aren’t the leaves wispy and elegant? It’s such a beautiful little tree, and I’m happy to add it to my landscaping.
Japanese maples generally thrive in dappled or partial shade, especially when young or in hotter climates. When I had the other one at my first apartment, it got too hot on the concrete patio, so I moved it under an overhanging tree.
Japanese maple trees generally grow at a slow to moderate pace, typically adding 1 to 2 feet per year. While some cultivars like the Bloodgood Japanese Maple can grow slightly faster, most varieties are slow-growing, especially as they mature.
Flowers and leaves are so intricately formed. There is such beauty in nature. And I enjoy it to the fullest.

In the semi dark evening, when I’d fumble my pill bottle and one would drop out, I always relied on my Charlie to rush up and put his nose on it! 100% accuracy! It was hard for me to see without my glasses and in dim lighting!
Your kitties are a hoot! Your plants are wonderful and so is your daughter to get someone to help you make things easier. I guess that’s actually a great idea, to figure out how to make it work, rather than not do something. Thanks for the reminder! I’m glad you have nice neighbors!!
I do like my neighbors. I was determined to make it work, and she made it work for me.
I’m glad you have nice neighbors that you can talk to “over the fence”. Poor Smitty must have really been tired!!! I laughed at that and your kittens! When I was getting my first dog, at age 50 mind you, my friend said having a dog is like having a two year old that never grows up! So true! I get ya on adding more beautiful plants and flowers to our gardens! I am an empty nest nurturer and love to piddle around with the plants and decor. Glad it will be easy to water your plants from now on! Have a good weekend!
It will certainly be easier than going up and down the steps. I’m really feeling it with the knee problems.
Brenda, thank goodness Kendra was able to make this contraption for you.
Your containers look beautiful! You are so talented. I hope that you enjoy all of your hard work and taking photos. I am looking forward to seeing more of them.
The snippets of the neighbors garden look beautiful as well. How nice to has kind, interesting neighbors.
I hope that you have a lovely weekend.
There’s is a different sort of garden, more geared to nature. I once had a national wildlife habitat sign in my yard in Texas. Maybe I’ll get this yard up to speed and someday have one here.
Your Japanese maple is so pretty.
Great idea on how the hose is hung for easy access.
Your kitties are so cute. I really miss having one (or two). Perhaps sometime again in the future. In the meantime, Blanco the Feral still comes to my porch just about every night for dinner. I feed him an entire can of wet food. I buy 9 Lives in the box of 24 so it’s not too expensive. Sometimes my wonderful neighbor across the street, who’s also an animal lover, helps me out by buying cat food and treats, and leaving a bag for me on my porch.
That’s nice of your neighbor to do that. We can’t forget the more feral kitties!
The kitties are so cute. It’s funny how they all have their own little quirks and personalities. Your neighbor’s yard looks really beautiful too. It must be nice, driving down your street and seeing all the pretty houses and gardens. It’s like eye candy!
If only the guy from CA who owns the boarded-up house would agree to sell his!
I fell for the beauty of that exact Japanese maple many years ago, which was marked down to almost nothing. Enjoyed it immensely that growing season because it didn’t survive the winter in our climate. Knew it when I bought it, but it was beautiful and worth it!
They are so beautiful!
You have really created a charming and cozy home. I have loved how you plant your flowers and display them. I have followed you way back when. Before your divorce and move! Thanks again for sharing.🌻
Thanks for being a reader for so long!
