Yesterday Kasi and I had our usual every other Saturday lunch date at a restaurant. Then we went to the house and Kasi hung a new shower curtain I had ordered. It’s just like the one I currently have.

I want some things to be ready and waiting for me on Friday.

Having my usual evening shower at the end of the day will be something I can look forward to after a tiring day of moving house. I wanted it already there so I wouldn’t have to look for it in a moving box on Friday.

Amazon

It’s the N&Y HOME Waffle Weave Shower Curtain with Snap-in Fabric Liner from Amazon. I’d never had the snap in liner before I ordered this one, and I like the convenience of it.

I have sheets washed and ready to put on my bed on Friday. And a bamboo mattress pad. Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to inflate the Sleep Number mattress. It was a problem last time. Hopefully it will be easier this time.

Kasi and I ate at a local Mexican restaurant called Rancho Grande on 11th Street yesterday. It was a little heavy for me because of the chili con carne. I should have asked for cheese or sour cream to top the cheese and onion enchiladas.

Kendra’s House:

We went to Kendra’s house for a little while afterward to see Kendra and Marley. The refrigerator, Kendra said, should be coming on Monday. She is worried that she’ll have to take off the door so they can get it inside.

Before we left I gave her a check for two month’s rent.

The counter tops will be installed on Wednesday I believe. I wanted white because I think a white counter top looks fresh, clean, and timeless.

The painter who is going to paint Mamie’s exterior has been power washing the porch. So painting the outside will be next, whenever that is scheduled for. We all sat around at Kendra’s and picked the exact shade of blue and green paint to get.

Kendra was getting read to cut wood to create shelves for the kitchen cabinets that the last tenant took with her. The tenant also took the carousel from the microwave, so Kendra bought another one. That tenant wouldn’t have lasted long where I currently live.

Then Kasi dropped me off here. I probably worked more than I should have on Friday packing. So I had to take a day off from it to rest. Greg says I’ll probably need thumb joint replacements at some point.

It will be nice to be moved, unpacked, and ready to enjoy the holiday season.

What I’m Watching:

I’m still watching DCI Banks. I only have one season left to watch this time, on my second round of watching it.

I like the character Alan Banks. He comes from a stern, unemotional father. But Alan is not like that at all. He feels for the families whose loved one’s murders he solves. In fact I think his character cares a little too much and it haunts him.

Annie, one of the women on his team, is always seemingly a little out of reach. It’s obvious that Alan has a soft spot in his heart for her. Yet he manages to let her go when she wants to try to make a go of it with baby Ila’s father.

What I’m Reading:

Amazon

For all the books Elin Hildebrand has written over the years, I think this is my first one to read. It’s a very interesting plot line about a woman named Hollis whose husband Matthew, a surgeon dies in a car crash. Hollis is a famous food blogger and has quite a following.

Hollis bonds on her website with a woman named Gigi. Gigi, an airline pilot, unbeknownst to Hollis, was her late husband’s lover.

Hollis learns about a woman who had what she called A Five Star Weekend. A sort of renewal after a tragic loss.

So Hollis decides that’s what she’ll do. Invite a friend from all the stages of her life for a weekend of celebration. A beloved childhood friend; one from high school, college, and a current friend.

They all convene at Hollis’s beautiful home in Nantucket. And Hollis and Gigi finally meet one another. So far in my reading, Hollis hasn’t figured out who Gigi is. I figure that’s probably bound to happen before the book ends.

Interesting enough, Hollis’s dog, Henny, growls every time Gigi comes near her. The dog somehow knows who she is, even if Hollis does not.

Next week at this time, Ivy and I will be living in the old house I named Mamie. I won’t have internet next weekend because they can’t come connect it until Monday.

  1. Hi Brenda ๐Ÿ‘‹
It’s been awhile since I’ve read your posts. Just busy with life these days.
That you will soon be moving to Marmie on November 1 is absolutely thrilling AND wonderful!!!
I am soooo happy ๐Ÿ˜Š for you.
Obviously, I had no idea what’s been going on in your life lately. Reading each and every post was amazing!!!!
You are so blessed now to be in such an adorable home!!!!
Thank goodness for your talented daughter. The fact that Kasi has and is helping you so very much is absolutely marvelous.
I can’t wait to finally see you comfortable and cozy!!!!
    Ohhhh it’s just completely thrilling!!!!

  2. Gosh, I canโ€™t believe how fast the time is flying by! Youโ€™ll be in your new house in less than a week! That is so exciting! Iโ€™m not even the one moving, and Iโ€™m super excited, lol! I hope everything goes smoothly for you on the big day. We will all be waiting to hear from you!

    1. I probably won’t be back online until next Monday when they hook me back up again. Then I’ll tell you everything!

  3. Sandy McFarland says:

A thought about the move. As a kid we moved at least 4 times a year on average. Mom always packed an overnight bag so weโ€™d know we had toothbrushes, clean underwear etc. at the end of the day. The other thing she always did was make the bed first. We didnโ€™t have nonessential items that we moved around with us but any time youโ€™re moving a family of 4 you e got a lot. She was a pro.

    1. You moved 4 times a year on average? Thatโ€™s about every 3 months! If you donโ€™t mind my asking, why would you have to move that often? I can see moving every couple of years, if youโ€™re in the military, but 4 times a year is quite a bit! No judging! Iโ€™m just genuinely curious!

    2. I’ve got big plastic boxes that have been stacked in front of the fireplace for months. I will put essentials in them so I’ll know where important things are.

  4. Wow – that time has flown by! Dogs always know who is a good person and who is not. I think cats have the same instinct but they show it differently. Take lots of pictures if you can. I know moving days, had enough of them over the years, so hectic and wearing. Never heard of thumb joint replacements, wowsers. What CAN’T be replaced these days, it’s just amazing. Don’t overdo. You will have time to pace yourself once your items are inside Mamie. What an adventure!

    1. Actually, taking pictures of your old apartment’s condition is a great idea, so they canโ€™t accuse you of anything. Taking pictures of moving into your new house, for us to enjoy, is a fabulous idea, lol! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    2. That’s what I keep telling myself. I might have to spend a few days off my feel once I get there. I just want to get it there!

  5. We are so excited ๐Ÿ˜ for you๐Ÿ’•

  6. Things are moving along so quickly…WOW…so nice to have your family near and supportive!
Thumb surgery….. just the thought…. I’ll try not to think about that now….

One of the women on DCI was on Doc Martin….have you watched it? I think its one of those series you either love or hate…. I got wrapped up in all the characters lives like you would in a one of those daytime soaps we used to watch…. I don’t watch soaps anymore so I don’t know what they are like now, probably the same.

Love it that you are thinking ahead prior to your move, that’s the best way.
I am so sorry you have to suffer such ill health. I’m sure many of us are praying for you.
Looking forward to your move to Mamie <3

    1. No, I haven’t watched Doc Martin. Will have to check it out.

      1. Cathycathyhans says:

I love watching Doc Martin, I get it on pbs.

  7. This is crazy but I’ve been getting more and more excited for you and Ivy. It’s time for you and Ivy to have an angst free life. The stress you might not even realize is there is slowly going to dissipate. Yes!!!! Little things will make you so happy again. Share, share, share because so many of us are excited for you and we want to do a happy dance right along with you. Here’s a little hug (Brenda and Ivy).

    1. Absolutely!!!! ๐Ÿฅฐ

  8. Annette Tracy says:

Boy this is exciting. It is all coming together so nicely. And it sounds like a win-win for both you and Kendra. That other renter sure sounds like a piece of work!!

    1. I wonder where she got off too? Well, she’s the problem of some other landlord now. And I guess she took her stripper pole with her.

      1. ๐Ÿคฃ

  9. When is your Lease up in the apartment youโ€™re living in now? Isnโ€™t it January? Youโ€™re going to pay 2 months rent to them for an empty apartment? What if they see you moving out before your lease is up???

    1. It doesn’t matter to them as long as I pay the rent. And it comes straight out of my bank account. Actually I’ll be paying them 3 months rent.

      1. OMG ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
        Really?
        That’s rough Brenda.
I’d be completely broke for the new year. ๐Ÿ˜•
I hope you’ll be okay financially.

  10. Briana from Texas says:

I am glad that things are looking so positive for you. I am anticipating seeing what you do to make Mamie your own.

Please tell me that Kendra kept her ex-tenant’s security deposit.

    1. I don’t know. I’ll have to ask her.

  11. Sending best wishes and good vibes for a smooth move! So excited and happy for you!

  12. Good morning Brenda. I look forward to your newsletter every day!
What ever happened to the rude young lady in the office of your current complex? I often wonder about her. Does she know you are leaving?

    1. I handed in my notice the first part of October.

  13. I am so happy for you. I, just like you have a dream of living in my own little cottage instead of my apartment. I do have a very nice apartment, but it is not the same as having your own home to do as you please and a yard and garden area. I look forward to watching you make it a home.

    1. It will be a fun ride! Hope you find your own little cottage, Patrice!

  14. Sounds like a lovely day spent with family and pondering and planning. Peace from all the crazy moving stuff! I’ll be curious on your countertops. I’m getting ready to replace mine. Usually if the fridge is being delivered, the people delivering it will remove the door. You’re getting there. And btw, I have that shower curtain. LOL. I love it!

    1. Oh you have it too! I love that shower curtain. White, plain as vanilla, but elegant.

  15. I am really excited for your move. You sound like your more relaxed and that will be a good thing for you. You have been through so much already. It’s time you get to just enjoy and decorate Mamie at your convenience. Just take care of yourself. It all doesn’t have to be done in one day. Although sometimes our brain thinks it does!

    1. This morning I worked on the kitchen. Filled one large box. Took things off the wall. Washed the glass containers that the sugar and flour was in. I’m getting there! I plan to work an hour or so every day and then get my ankle up.

  16. Elizabeth says:

Hoping the move goes as easily as possible!! Looking forward to all about what you do for this house!!

    1. I’m just dreaming about what I can do with Mamie as a backdrop every single day!

  17. Sending prayers for you that the move goes smoothly and as easily as possible. ๐Ÿ™

    1. I’m always prepared. Early as a bird to all appointments. I’ll be ready!

  18. Brenda, Make sure you give the painter a heads up that Friday is move in day. you don’t want him to be in the middle of painting the front porch area when the movers arrive. give him plenty of advance notice so he can plan.

    1. I’ve never met him. Kendra is handling that. I’m just paying for it. I’m sure she’ll let him know.
