This week in Sunday Snippets 9.21.25…

Pink zinnias in my front yard.

It rained last night, and it’s still raining on and off today. I welcome the rain because it allows me to slow down on watering the plants outside. Apparently, it’s ragweed season, and allergies are triggered.

Yesterday, Kendra, Kasi, and Rhonda met up here at my house, and we went to a late breakfast at a local diner. My teeth are still hurting, so I’ve been eating soft foods, which made breakfast my choice of when and where to eat.

Thrift Shopping:

Rhonda came to pick me up on Thursday, and we went to Sand Springs and then to Sapulpa to go to the thrift shops. While at one, I found a little table for an excellent price to go next to my chair where I work.

I’ve been looking for the right table for years. The one I had next to the chair to hold my laptop was industrial and was getting a bit “rough around the edges.”

I walked into the store, saw this one, and knew it was perfect—just the right size. In fact, it couldn’t have been more perfect, as the table came up to precisely the right spot by my chair. And it’s just the right shade of green. Plus, now I have a little drawer to put my reading glasses.

I found it at a little store called Bella Doni in Sapulpa, so I’m giving them a shout-out. They are located at 1602 S. Main. They also offer painting classes and sell chalk paint.

Rhonda shops there fairly regularly, she told me, and she wanted me to see what they had. The two women working there were very kind and accommodating.

Maggie/Magnolia:

Maggie is doing well at Kendra’s house. She’s gained weight and looks so much healthier!

I was worried that the cat Kendra already has, Millie, who is around the same age as Maggie, would be upset. According to Kendra, it’s been the other way around. Maggie is bossing Millie around. She says Millie wants to get close to her, but Maggie is chasing her away.

But then by yesterday, the two cats were both upset with one another. Perhaps this is a form of cat-speak I’m unfamiliar with, and it’s a standard way for pets to interact with new pets in a household.

Kendra said now she sees why I’m always cleaning the litter boxes. One cat poops enough, but add another one and you’ve got double the poop and pee! Sometimes more! Stands to reason, of course.

But it’s like when people tell you that having a second baby won’t be any more trouble. And you quickly find that OF COURSE IT IS MORE TROUBLE!

You wonder how you could have been so naive. I guess because you want that to be true. But then you love the new addition, so what does it matter, right?

But Maggie is settling in nicely. Kendra is running herself ragged, making sure everyone is getting along. With four pets, that’s probably going to be up and down until the dust settles.

Kendra’s Coffee Bar Job:

Kendra redid someone’s coffee bar a few months ago. However, the photo I showed you didn’t include the shelves that hadn’t been delivered yet. So I asked her for a picture of that, because one of you asked to see it.

Kendra said the woman for whom she created the coffee bar took this photo. I tried to crop it so it didn’t look crooked, because pictures like this make me feel jittery. But it couldn’t be fixed.

Maybe no one else notices, but the tiles are not even. Not at all even. I get a bit uptight when things aren’t even! When I’ve taken a crooked photo, it gets deleted because I can’t use it.

But this is what I have, so this is what I’m showing you.

TV Series I’m Currently Watching:

Poster from The Wire TV series on HBO.

Last night I finished watching “The Wire” on HBO.

The Wire is an American crime drama television series created and primarily written by the American author and former police reporter David Simon for the cable network HBO.

The series premiered on June 2, 2002, and ended on March 9, 2008, comprising 60 episodes over five seasons. The idea for the show started as a police drama loosely based on the experiences of Simon’s writing partner Ed Burns, a former homicide detective and public school teacher.

The Book I’m Currently Reading:

Unspoken novel author by Lisa Jackson.
Amazon

I’m reading Lisa Jackson’s book “Unspoken.”

Summary:

The town of Bad Luck, Texas, is home to all kinds of secrets. Shelby Cole had her share before she left to start a new life. After almost ten years away, a mysterious package arrives at her Seattle home.

There’s no return address, just a photograph of a little girl. Shelby knows immediately that this is the daughter she was told died at birth—and that going back is the only way to discover what really happened.

Shelby isn’t the only one coming home. A long-ago killing is in the news again, and Ross McCallum, the man who made a nightmare of Shelby’s past, has been set free because of recanted testimony. Is he baiting her, or has someone else lured her back to Bad Luck for their own twisted purpose?

Shelby’s inquiries about her baby are met with stonewalling and hostility. Her only ally is Nevada Smith, the one-time bad boy of Bad Luck. Nevada was the arresting officer in that decade-old murder case. Now he’s a suspect. Though shocked by Shelby’s reappearance and her revelation about the child he knew nothing about, he’ll do anything to help find their daughter.

But searching for answers draws them into a terrifying scheme, where unspoken truths will drive a killer to brutal revenge . . .
