This week in Sunday Snippets 11.9.25…

Kendra and Marley came over yesterday and brought Mexican food for lunch. Then Kendra went outside, took the water hose off the spigot for the winter months, and covered the house vents.

Movies I Watched:

The Way Back

I watched The Way Back on Amazon Prime Video yesterday.

Jack Cunningham was a high school basketball superstar who suddenly walked away from the game for unknown reasons. Years later, he’s now stuck in a meaningless job and struggling with alcoholism. Drinking ruined his marriage and his hope for a better life.

But Jack soon gets a shot at redemption when he becomes the basketball coach for his alma mater. The programme had fallen on hard times since his teenage glory days.

This was a very touching film. Ben Affleck has had continual problems with alcoholism in real life, so this wasn’t an easy film for him to act in.

The Little Things

Netflix

On Friday, I watched a movie on Netflix with Denzel Washington called “The Little Things.” I think anything is good with Denzel Washington in it, as he never disappoints.

The Little Things is a 2021 American neo-noir psychological crime thriller film directed, written, and co-produced by John Lee Hancock and co-produced by Mark Johnson.

One night in 1990, a teenage girl drives on a deserted highway, stalked by a motorist. After pulling into a gas station, she finds it closed. A terrifying pursuit on foot begins. She manages to catch the attention of a passing truck driver and escapes her stalker.

Set in early 1990s Los Angeles, the film follows two detectives (Denzel Washington and Rami Malek) who investigate a string of murders, which leads them to a strange loner who may be the culprit (Jared Leto).

Series I’m Watching:

Dark Winds

I’m watching Season 3 of Dark Winds on Netflix. It’s a great show. And season 4 has already been announced. The show is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by author Tony Hillerman.

It stars Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon, leading a predominantly Native American cast.

Dark Winds follows Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito of the Navajo Tribal Police. They solve mysteries and serve justice as their reservation is besieged by a series of increasingly violent crimes in the 1970s.

Every mystery uncovers old wounds that run deep, not only in their own lives, but in the collective past of the community they serve. Each step closer to the truth forces the officers to confront their own personal demons, family trauma, and evil forces that threaten the uneasy balance of reservation life.

What I’m Reading:

The Tenant

Amazon

Kasi brought me this book last weekend after she read itโ€”she and I both like Freida McFadden’s books.

In The Tenant, Blake Porter is riding high until he’s not. Fired abruptly from his job as a VP of marketing and unable to make the mortgage payments on the new brownstone he shares with his fiancรฉe, he’s desperate to make ends meet.

Enter Whitney. Beautiful, charming, down-to-earth, and looking to rent a room. She’s exactly what Blake’s looking for. Or is she?

Because something isn’t quite right, the neighbors start treating Blake differently. The smell of decay permeates his home, no matter how hard he scrubs. Strange noises jar him awake in the middle of the night. And soon Blake fears someone knows his darkest secrets…

Danger lives right at home, and by the time Blake realizes it, it’ll be far too late. The trap is already set.

This is one of those “can’t hardly turn the pages fast enough” books. I started reading this book and finished it in a few days.

Blacktop Wasteland

Then I began reading S.A. Cosby’s “Blacktop Highway.” I had read another of his books recently called “All The Sinners Bleed.”

I’d never read this author before, but he’s a great writer.

Amazon

In “Blacktop Wasteland,” a husband, a father, a son, a business owner. And the best getaway driver east of the Mississippi.

Beauregard โ€œBugโ€ Montage is an honest mechanic, a loving husband, and a hard-working dad. Bug knows thereโ€™s no future in the man he used to be: known from the hills of North Carolina to the beaches of Florida as the best wheelman on the East Coast.

He thought he’d left all that behind him, but as his carefully built new life begins to crumble, he finds himself drawn inexorably back into a world of blood and bullets. When a smooth-talking former associate comes calling with a can’t-miss jewelry store heist, Bug feels he has no choice but to get back in the driver’s seat. And Bug is at his best where the scent of gasoline mixes with the smell of fear.

Haunted by the ghost of who he used to be and the father who disappeared when he needed him most, Bug must find a way to navigate this blacktop wasteland…or die trying.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Sunday Snippets.

I recently started playing at Slot Lair Casino, one of the UKโ€™s popular online gaming clubs, and it has been a very positive experience. The casino offers a wide selection of slot games with smooth graphics and engaging themes. Security feels solid, and I was impressed by how quickly I could make deposits and withdrawals. The bonuses are generous, especially for new players, which makes the gaming experience even more exciting.

  2. I’m so excited season 3 of Dark Winds is here! I love that show! Now time to start the book series as well!

  3. Bangbet lets you preset up to three auto-cashouts per round in Aviator. Set GHS 1 total: 0.30 at 1.5x, 0.50 at 2.0x, 0.20 manual. Last night the plane hit 3.8xโ€”auto took GHS 1.55 profit, I cashed the rest at 3.2x for GHS 0.64 more. Whole GHS 2.19 hit MTN MoMo in 87 seconds. Round history shows your splits clearly. Handy feature at Bangbet if you hate babysitting the button. Preset conservativelyโ€”crashes donโ€™t wait.

  4. Mexican food sounds so good. But it seems no restaurant near me knows how to make chili rellenos anymore. And sopapillas with honey. I haven’t seen sopapillas on a menu since I visited Colorado in the mid-90s.

  5. It was nice that Kendra and Marley came to have lunch with you. We have a really good Mexican restaurant here too that is a family favorite place to eat for us. How are you feeling after your falls? Hopefully youโ€™re feeling better! Have a great rest of your day!

    1. Still pretty sore. But I keep applying ice.
