Today in Sunday Snippets 3.2.25…

I did my taxes over the phone with my accountant on Thursday, as my knee is still causing me quite a bit of pain. I didn’t want to drive there and have to walk up his sidewalk steps, which are always challenging for me due to my ankle anyway.

Thank goodness I’m no longer paying double rent and have the taxes done. I always breathe a sigh of relief once that’s accomplished for another year.

I’ve been wearing a knee brace and applying ice to my knee during the day. Greg examined it and said he thinks it’s arthritis. It’s also happening in my left knee but isn’t as bad as in my right knee. He told me to stay off it as much as I could for a while.

As we all know, getting old isn’t fun, but of course, it’s better than the alternative.

If only I could handle taking anti-inflammatory drugs, I might get some relief. But it tears up my stomach.

Weather Change:

It’s finally warmed up. Cold weather wreaks havoc on arthritis, so I’m thankful for the higher temperature. Hopefully, there won’t be more snow, but you never know. It has snowed in mid-April in the past.

Ivy decided she no longer liked the adult canned food I fed her once a day. Now, she will only eat canned food I feed the kittens. I’ll have to figure out something she will eat for her age group, but I’ve been giving her the canned kitten food this week. She’s always been picky about her canned food.

Steve came to see me on Friday and brought sandwiches. I had potato chips and drinks, so we sat down and had a good catching-up talk. Kasi had given me one of those laser pointers shaped like a bird that chirps. Both he and Greg had fun with that Friday, playing with the cats.

Then Kasi came yesterday to bring lunch and the book I wanted for my birthday, which she ordered and had delivered to her residence. I just began reading it. The book is Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister.

What I’m Watching:

I started watching Reacher this past week. In case you haven’t heard of it, former military policeman Jack Reacher solves crimes and metes out his own of street justice. The series is based on novels by Lee Child.

What I’m Reading:

I just finished reading this book and started the one Kasi brought me yesterday.

Amazon

The book We Are Not Like Them is told from alternating perspectives. Jen and Riley have been best friends since kindergarten. As adults, they remain as close as sisters, though their lives have taken different directions. Jen married young and, after years of trying, is finally pregnant. Riley pursued her childhood dream of becoming a television journalist and is poised to become one of the first Black female anchors of the top news channel in their hometown of Philadelphia.

But the deep bond they share is severely tested when Jenโ€™s husband, a city police officer, is involved in the shooting of an unarmed Black teenager. Six months pregnant, Jen is in freefall as her future, her husbandโ€™s freedom, and her friendship with Riley are uncertain. Covering this career-making story, Riley wrestles with the implications of this tragic incident for her Black community, her ambitions, and her relationship with her lifelong friend.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Sunday Snippets of the past week. If you haven’t already, you might want to watch Reacher or read one of the books I mentioned. Have a great Sunday!

  1. Sorry you are in pain. Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to Whole Foods to look for something for inflammation for me. The pravastatin makes my muscles feel like I have the flu so I stopped that. Dang side effects. Happy Belated Birthday. I knew it was close to either my daughter or grandson and if I would have put the dates on my 2025 calendar I wouldโ€™ve remembered. I do less and less as the years roll on. I am sure Ivy wouldnโ€™t fall for a mix of kitten and adult food. I can just see her picking out the food she wanted! We also enjoyed Reacher.Take care.

  2. Did Ivy do the same thing with her cat food a long time ago? I feel like sheโ€™s done that once before. Was it with Gracieโ€™s food maybe? I donโ€™t know why that sounds familiar. Maybe their kitty food just tastes better than hers, and sheโ€™s going on strike from eating hers, lol. Silly Ivy. Iโ€™m sorry about your knees hurting. Besides staying off your get and resting, is there anything else that will help? Ice maybe? That was nice that Steve came to visit you. Have you seen any of your other friends recently? You should all make an effort to get together once a month. You were all such good friends. I hope you all stay in touch. And it was always nice to hear about them too. I havenโ€™t watched the Reacher show that youโ€™re watching, but I did watch the Reacher movies that Took Cruise was in. They were good, so Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ll like the series youโ€™re watching too. Glad your weather is improving. Letโ€™s hope it stays nice. I always enjoy your Sunday snippets.

    1. Sorry for the typos! Hopefully you know what I meant to say.

    2. Yes, Ivy has done this once before. So I had to give away all the canned food she refused to eat.

  3. I have osteoarthritis in my knees too, especially the left one. That’s because I had a menisectomy on that knee 7 years ago. It’s been really acting up lately and what I think triggered it was that I tried doing deep squats again. But I’m trying to stay in shape (other than round, lol) and get more exercise into my day…so hard when your knee hurts. What kind of brace do you have, and does it help? I’ve tried a couple from Amazon and didn’t like either one of them and had to return them.

    1. Greg had me order this one…DR. BRACE ELITE Knee Brace with Side Stabilizers & Patella Gel Pads for Maximum Knee Pain Support and Fast Recovery for men and Women- Please Check How To Size Video

  4. I’ve read all the Reacher books and really liked them. I think the actor who plays Reacher is perfect in appearance, but his acting is a little wooden. Still, the tv series is fun to watch. I mostly watch British mystery series and I know you also like those. So many good books and tv shows are out there. I could spend my life in a recliner, but happily gardening season is right around the corner. Fresh air and dirt…my favorite combination. Looking forward to seeing how you create your new garden.

    1. I thought his acting and was a bit wooden too. I thought maybe the character was supposed to be somewhat autistic?

Happy March and Happy Sunday Brenda,
I am sorry that you are suffering from arthritis. As my late mother-in-law used to say, aging is not for sissies. It seems as if everyday(for me) there is a new ache or pain or something wonky going on. Oh well.
My husband loves Reacher, and has read all of the books.
How nice to have Steve and your daughter over for lunch this week!
    Have a wonderful week.

  6. Brenda, did you get those white tulips in the red vase thru Amazon? I have been looking at them on Amazonโ€ฆthey have many, many white ones (which I am looking for) but it is hard to choose which one.

  7. You might try Salon Pas for your knees. I put one just below my kneecap. Itโ€™s doesnโ€™t take away the pain, but it reduces it. Iโ€™ve also started using BioFreeze cream for pain. I have arthritis, too. And I canโ€™t take anti-inflammatory meds either.

    1. I use Biofreeze on my hands, neck, back, and ankles. I’ll look into Salon Pas.

  8. Brenda, sorry to hear your knees are giving you problems. I can relate to this. I’ve had bad knees since I was 54! I had my left one replaced in November. I’m still recovering but can finally go out on my own. The pain I had is gone but I have major nerve pain still and probably nerve damage. It’s a risk with this surgery. I’m thinking although the other knee also needs replacing I’m gonna try to keep what God gave me!! This was a very hard surgery.
I’m hoping the cold weather is gone for us here in TN also. It’s really rough on arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Hope you have a fantastic week!

    1. I’ve never had problems with my knees. This suddenly just came about.

  9. Susan Daniels says:

I love all of Lee Childโ€™s booksโ€ฆespecially Reacher. Iโ€™ve read them all. Thank goodness they finally found a real Reacher for the series. My husband had knee surgery this week and I realized why it was that I didnโ€™t want to be a nurse. UGH! Plus the dogs are so confused they are just nuts. Happy Birthday whenever it was.
