Sunday Snippets 3.24.24
This week in Sunday Snippets 3.24.24, I visited one thrift store.
I found this stained glass window of two cardinals on Friday at the Animal Aid rescue. Then I came home and ordered a chain from Amazon in order to hang it. I’d like to put it in the kitchen window.
I also found two faux chickadees and a cat cookie cutter for Lisa. Her birthday was yesterday. She loves birds and cats and anything pink. The cat cookie cutter was pink.
Lisa said yesterday morning when she was walking her dog the homeless had strayed from the dumpsters. They had looted the dumpsters and thrown trash everywhere. Not only that, she said, but they’re eyeing what’s on our patios.
They have been found sleeping on patios as well. I know they have to sleep somewhere, but I’d be very alarmed if I found one sleeping on my patio.
The management has been told and they said they’re not responsible. That you can call the police if you want.
Man Asleep On The Grass:
One day last week some of the residents alerted management that a man was laying on the grass in the parking lot across the street. This is where the people working here park.
One tenant said the office told her they were aware of him, and that he was just drunk. The tenant said maybe he’s dead.
A woman in the office said no, he’s just drunk. The tenant asked if they’d do something about him just laying out there. She was told no. If the tenant wanted to call the police, she was free to do so.
He wasn’t dead, obviously, as later he was gone.
So the stained glass is all I found for myself on that trip. But I did locate another thrift store I want to go to.
It was closed on Friday. I might try to go on Tuesday, as they’re also closed Sundays and Mondays.
I’ll probably ask a couple of neighbors if they want to go with me.
Can you read what the stained glass has written at the top? It’s the details of the stained glass and instructions for it as well.
Mighty nice of whoever happened to donate it, I thought.
I’m working on the two-tiered tray I found last week at the thrift store. I’ve attached natural round wood balls to the bottom to lift it up a little.
Now I’m waiting on water-based wood stain to arrive from Amazon so I can stain the wood. After I’m finished, I’ll show you how I style it.
What I’m Watching:
I have a few more episodes of “Breaking Bad” to watch over the weekend. It is the fifth and final season.
It sure is a fantastic series. My 20 year old grandson thinks so too.
I don’t know what I’ll watch next. I’ve been watching this series for weeks, so I’ll have to choose another for my TV watching at night.
What I’m Reading:
This book is part of a book series.
Book Summary:
In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Jigsaw Room to discuss unsolved crimes; together they call themselves the Thursday Murder Club.
When a local developer is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to the body, the Thursday Murder Club suddenly find themselves in the middle of their first live case.
As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it’s too late?
Ivy:
Ivy looks like she’s curled up in a womb in the photo below.
She sure does love to sleep in that basket. I guess I’ll never get to take it off the couch and put it back on the floor.

I won’t comment on the homeless. Based on the writing on the “stained glass” it is painted and not actual stained glass. I love cardinals and dogwoods, so I think it is very pretty.
I love the photo of Ivy in “her” basket-bed! Cats know the meaning of cozy, don’t they?
Can you imagine being desperate enough for something to eat, wear or lie on to rummage through a dumpster for it? There is so much wealth in this country and yet we have thousands of persons that have nothing to eat, nowhere to live and no way to survive except taking what others more fortunate have thrown away. Not to be on a soapbox but I think it is one of the major shames of this country that we have this “problem”. Not all of these homeless people are drunks, criminals or shiftless. Many are mentally ill and have no access to health care of any kind let alone therapy. I don’t know the solution or the remedy for problems like those found in your apt. complex but it should be incumbent for our local and national government bodies to work toward finding one. In the meantime have as much compassion for these unfortunate people as you can and support or create efforts to help them. That’s my rant for today! I just had my 80th birthday and my mantra has become “focus on gratitude every day and practice compassion for others in every situation.” I am grateful for your blog, Brenda and I wish you and all your readers happiness and health.
There is the saying: If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Seems to me most of these slumlords ought to get out!! Sigh…one of the biggest problems we faced here was that one tenant brought all the throwaway junk from his job and dumped in the dumpster so when we needed to place our trash in, there was simply no room!! Man next door finally got some action…but he knows the owners personally…and they move this summer…so then we will have lost our 1 advocate!! We have a camera that is hooked up to Hubby’s cell phone…we have it facing our porch so we can see what is going on…it also includes our car and the walkway. It is not very noticeable. You might consider that, Brenda…so you don’t walk out on someone one day. Hubby got one of those portable air horns which we have not used YET…but it sits beside the door…that SHOULD nearly wake the dead if needed. We also place a metal rod under each door so no one can force open the flimsy locks. And it also keeps out management, workers, who love coming without prior notice, while we are still in bed…they finally figured out no way was the door opening. Good manners have mostly left our country now. It is so sad…all of it. No one helping the poor, nor elderly either.
Yes, that is Ivy’s basket now, thank you very much! Cats love sleeping inside small spaces. My cat used to jump into the hallway linen closet if the door was open. She would squeeze into a tiny space on top of the towels and somehow turn herself around so she was facing out. It was one of her favorite hiding/sleeping spots although we then had to keep the door cracked open (the doors were louvered as well). Cats are so amusing! Love the stained glass cardinals too!
After Breaking Bad I suggest Better Call Saul! I liked it just as much as Breaking Bad and you’ll be familiar with the characters already.
Boy,Brenda,we could be living in the same place on opposite sides of the country!
Our management put posted signs by the dumpster but the homeless still rummage through it,someone calls the cops & by the time they show up,they’re gone.
I know it’s small comfort but it’s everywhere and there really isn’t much to do.
Big fan of thrifting too,you got some good finds!
Tell Ivy hi from Bella & buddy in NY:)
Good Morning Brenda, Ivy in the basket is too cute. Your management company should be responsible for your safety , I’m not sure what the laws are between Oklahoma & California, but at least hire a security guard.. I believe in past posts you aren’t thrilled with the current management. I’m not sure what you as a tenemt can do, but I hope you and your neighbors have an alarm system. I do enjoy your blogs. Take care
