Sunday Snippets 8/13/23
Today in Sunday Snippets 8/13/2023…
It has rained and rained here. Most every day it has rained. Of course I love the rain. It means I don’t have to go out and water the garden.
I feel so cozy inside when it is raining outside. I know my plants in the garden love it too.
Ivy:
Ivy in the below photo is sleeping on my bed while I watch TV. She is such a nice quiet companion.
After my shower at night when I lay down to watch an episode of whatever series I’m watching at the time, she lays down with me. Just not close to me.
Ivy loves from afar.
She lays behind my chair almost all the time now during the daytime. Ivy also likes to be near the window to watch for critters.
Kinzi & Her Stitches:
Kinzi finally goes to the vet tomorrow to get her stitches out. Which means the plastic cone comes off her head.
It has been driving her crazy, but she has been a good sport and very sweet about it. Poor thing.
Other pets are afraid of her because she looks different. Lisa says she will be SO happy when that cone comes off and the stitches are out. Then Kinzi won’t appear to be so miserable.
What I’m Currently Watching:
I am currently watching “Murder Investigation Team,” which I mentioned on my post yesterday in shows to watch in August.
I just finished watching the last season of “Jack Ryan” on Prime Video.
What I’m Currently Reading:
I am reading a book by Liane Moriarty, an Australian author. It is called “Truly Madly Guilty.”
The Book’s Plot:
In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty turns her unique, razor-sharp eye towards three seemingly happy families.
Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit busy, life. They have two little girls. Sam has just started a new dream job. And Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime.
If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other.
Or so they think.
Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation.
But theirs is a complicated relationship. When Erika mentions a last-minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.
Two months later, it won’t stop raining. And Clementine and Sam can’t stop asking themselves the question: What if we hadn’t gone?

I always love it when I find books that have many pages. This one has 560 pages.
If a book has less than 300 pages, I won’t choose it. I want a lot of bang for my buck! And once I get involved in a story line, I want to see it fleshed out all the way.
State Of The Garden:
Plants are starting to droop in the heat. So even if the sprinkler comes on in the early morning, I may have to water again around noon.
However the petunias are blooming like crazy, and I can see that I need to trim and deadhead them.
I’m usually more on top of this chore, but my ankle has been hurting.
I saw one morning glory flower from the patio door, but it was gone as soon as clouds appeared.
And I now see another morning glory bloom, but it’s not going to open up unless we get sunshine today.
The white moon flowers on the other side of the trellis don’t show on this side where I can see them.
I have to walk down the sidewalk to see the white blooms before the sun comes out.
So the moon vine flowers bloom at night when there’s no sun. And the morning glories don’t bloom until the sun is shining.
But all in all, the plants are still looking good. I need to get out and trim many of them.
The August Heat:
But I hate to go out in the heat. And my ankle has been more problematic lately.
I still have to wear the walking boot to drive. I’m beginning to think that may be as good as it gets.
If I do much, I am just going to be in pain. And that means standing for more than a few minutes, or it could mean changing the sheets, etc.
But it is what it is, I tell myself. I can handle not being on my feet for more than a few minutes. But it does keep me close to home. You take what you’re given.
It’s good that I’m a homebody.
Yes, I can live with that.

I so enjoy discovering new books and this one looks good. I’ll be requesting this today from my local library!
Does your upstairs neighbor still play his TV too loudly. The image of Ivy snoozing on your bed made me wonder if his TV keeps you from sleeping well.
Your plants look really pretty Brenda and pics of Ivy always makes me smile, silly thing. I am sorry your ankle is troubling these days. Please take special care not to overdo it – you have come so far:-) I hope Kinzi heals up well and soon!
Brenda,
Your garden looks beautiful! I am happy that you are able to have one, even if it is drooping a bit from the heat. I think we all feel like that about now. I an so tired of the heat. Fall cannot come soon enough.
Sorry your ankle is bothering you, just be gentle with yourself.
Your new book looks interesting. I agree I love long books!
Have a wonderful week!
The garden is beautiful. Ivy is such a funny cat and quite the eccentric…
Brenda, you said “ I still have to wear the walking boot to drive.”. Has your doctor signed off on that? In many states it is illegal to drive with a walking boot on. You can be held liable should you be involved in an accident. I would not like to,see that happen to you. Please check with your doctor (not your physical therapist).
Viewing on streaming services is what we love, (especially with no new television shows on or coming for that matter).
Have you tried MI-5 and Karen Pirie or River on Brit-box? We watched Happy Valley on Acorn and really liked it. It was a very intense continuing story throughout the entire multiple series.
Anyway… PLEASE
check into the legality of the driving with the walking boot.
Oh Happy Valley is very good but you said it, it is intense. It has won many awards over the years I’ve read. I watched seasons 1 and 2 in 2018 (I think it was on Netflix then) but I have not watched season 3 just recently released. I have not been up for something of that intensity I guess. But it is definitely a good one!
Sorry to hear you are in pain…but glad you can at least enjoy your garden from inside too, plus are a homebody. It helps to be a homebody…cause as we age, often that is all we have!! Me too.
Oh oh, my comments disappeared. Your garden is just lovely and to think you were so worried about having shade❣️
Could you have the house keeper change your sheets for you. Mine used to when i had a house keeper. Maybe offer a few more $$. I still did the laundry though. It might help you a lot. Downsized from a Calf King to a queen which was a beast to make and now it is so much easier.
Keeping ourselves busy within our limitations can be difficult but we have no choice. Enjoy what you can and let the rest go.
Heat and humidity can aggravate old injuries. I broke my right wrist when I was 13 and even though I’m close to 72 now, it still aches sometimes in hot and humid weather, of which we’ve had plenty in Milwaukee, UGH, in addition to still being in drought conditions. It’s a sort of ouch that feels like it is deep inside the bone, and it can’t be massaged away.
