In this week’s Sunday Snippets 5.25.25…

It has rained all weekend. When I looked out in the backyard this morning, I saw pools of water in the grass.

My doctor prescribed a medication that has really helped my symptoms. It helps empty the bladder, and once I started taking it, most of the pressure I felt was gone. For now, at least. So, one day at a time.

Greg installed the curtain hardware for the tall window in my bathroom. He didn’t have enough time to help me add the curtain, so we’ll do that next time he’s here. It’s up relatively high on the wall. I’m using the green-and-white-striped curtain I had hanging in my apartment kitchen window.

What I’m Watching – Black Doves:

For Sunday Snippets 5.25.25, this is a picture of Keira Knightley in Black Doves for what I'm watching.
Netflix

Black Doves is a British spy action thriller on Netflix starring Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire. It is about a spies-for-hire organization that obtains secrets for the highest bidder.

Keira Knightley’s character, Helen, is the wife of the Secretary of State for Defense. She learns that her secret identity as a spy is in danger after London’s underworld kills her lover.

Her employers are the Black Doves, a spies-for-hire organization. They retrieve industrial, political, or diplomatic secrets for the highest bidder. They send in Sam, an old friend and colleague, to protect her.

Ahead of its December 2024 premiere, it had already been renewed for a second season.

What I’m Reading – The Dry:

This is my second time reading this book; I wrote a review some time ago. I read so many books that I sometimes forget what I’ve read and what I haven’t.

The novel The Dry by Jane Harper
Amazon

The Dry was Jane Harper’s debut novel, set in Australia. She has since written two more books featuring the Aaron Falk character, which I plan to read. I’m enjoying rereading it.

In the novel, after getting a note demanding his presence, Federal Agent Aaron Falk arrives in his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the funeral of his best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago, when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi.

Falk and his father fled under a cloud of suspicion, saved from prosecution only because of Luke’s steadfast claim that the boys had been together at the time of the crime. But now more than one person knows they didn’t tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead.

Amid the worst drought in a century, Falk and the local detective question what happened to Luke. Falk reluctantly investigates to see if there’s more to Luke’s death than there seems to be. Long-buried mysteries resurface, as do the lies that have haunted them. Falk will find that small towns always have hidden big secrets.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of Sunday Snippets. Have a great Sunday!

  1. Glad you’re feeling better. So you don’t have a prolapsed bladder after all? (That part is good!)

  2. Glad to hear the medication is helping you. Can you tell us the name of it?

  3. Do you mind telling us what the name of the medicine is? I had been going to a urologist and recently switched to a urogynecologist. I get frequent UTI’s and incomplete bladder emptying but no one has mentioned a medication that helps with that.

  4. Glad that you were able to get relief taking the medication. It does seem like as we age, it is one new ailment after another. I used to shake my head at my parents’ calendars filled with doctor appointments and now I shake my head at my own calendar.

Your plant containers are so so pretty — makes me smile when you post a photo of the flowers. It is rainy here in northeast Florida too but we really needed the rain and my flower garden is certainly looking much happier.

Today is Memorial Day — we usually drive over to the National Cemetery here in town and pay our respects to those soldiers who did truly give it all. When I read the information on the tombstones, I am always saddened by just how young most of these soldiers were. Wish this world could find a way for all of us to live in peace.

Hope you have a wonderful day with your plants and your furry crew.

  5. I’m glad your doctor found a medicine that works good for you. And Greg is so nice to help you with things around your house. That outside picture of your plants looks so pretty. I think we are about to get a few days of rain too. It’s ok… the grass and trees and flowers need it. Enjoy your Memorial Day tomorrow everyone! Any special plans? I’m just hanging out with family and maybe going swimming.

    1. I forgot it was a holiday weekend. Greg is wonderful to help me.

Maybe it’s just me, but I am tired of crime / murder / detective books and TV series. Too much violence and gore for this old lady. If I want angst and anti-social characters, I can watch the News programs. Where is simple entertainment like modern Doris Day movies and Carol Burnett / Dean Martin variety shows? I tried Hallmark Network for awhile, but there the emphasis is beautiful young women getting their man. You know the outcome before the first commercial. Majority of programming seems group think and formula driven.

    1. Yes.
      It’s ALL true.
      way too much violence everywhere.
      P. S. I never watch the news any longer. haven’t for years.
Maybe when this current jabberwocky is gone. 👏

      1. I actually don’t watch the news anymore either. It’s too depressing. They need a happy news only station! That I’d watch!

        1. I stopped watching the news years ago. I guess that’s why I can read mysteries and thrillers and stream them. I know it’s fiction.

    2. Nonnas on Netflix is an entertaining and upbeat film.

      1. I saw that up on the screen. Wondered if it was good.

  7. Happy to hear you got some relief. Glad the medicine is helping.

    1. I was pretty worried there for a few days. The pressure felt kind of like I was having a baby!

  8. Elizabeth says:

Glad the med is helping…hopefully it will continue for you!! My hubby has to take one that helps with bladder issues. Part of age I suppose…
