In The Love Of Home Files #26, I’m looking toward summer and the things I look forward to during that season.

Simple meals are one. And pretty flowers to gaze at and enjoy outdoors during the summer months of gardening are another.

In The Love Of Home Files #27, this is The Love Of Home #26 graphic I created

I love to see summer tablescapes outdoors, as in al fresco dining. Crafts for the 4th of July. Easy decorating. So many things to look forward to in the summertime!

An Al Fresco Summer Tablescape:

Sarah at Room For Tuesday designed a fun outdoor summer tablescape for al fresco dining.

Thrifted Bundt Pan To Patio Planter:

Jen from Tatortots & Jello found a bundt pan while thrifting. She upcycled it into a patio planter.

Cindy from DIY Beautify created a double-sided patriotic star decoration for the 4th of July.

Easy Ways To Use Vintage Buttons:

Lora from Lora Bloomquist created a topiary using vintage buttons. She says she inherited her grandmother’s collection of old buttons.

Small Laundry Room Ideas:

Chelsea from Making Home Base DIYed a rental makeover of her small laundry room. Like me, she lives in a rental and moves around.

Kim from Shiplap & Shells shows how to grow sunflowers planted from seed. This one is truly beautiful!

Good Companion Plants For Hostas:

Stacy from Stacy Ling shows the best companion plants for hostas, a hardy perennial plant.

Ranch Chicken Taco Salad:

Kristin from Yellow Bliss Road writes about 30 fresh and light summer meals she likes to make for her family.

Loaded Avocado BLT:

Taste Of Home created a loaded avocado BLT recipe that looks quite delicious. It would be a great meal for summertime or any other season.

I hope you found a DIY project, gardening idea, or food recipe that will inspire you to make something today.

  1. I’m not into avocado but that loaded BLT sandwich with the fries sure looks yummy! I’m going to check out Stacy Ling’s website. That is one gorgeous hosta. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts of trying to keep a baby rabbit away from my hostas, they are suffering daily attacks. I have even sprayed rabbit repellant bought at a big box store around the hostas and other plants that I have seen have been munched on. It appears to work on some but not other plants. We’re in for thunderstorms the next few days so I won’t spray again until the rain passes. Maybe Stacy Ling will have some tips on how to keep my hostas safe without having to fence them in like Fort Knox. This past Friday I did stock up on “rabbit resistant” perennials during my annual “spend too much money on plants” gardening trip to the nurseries with a gardening friend and have been planting them near and around the hostas in addition to using the rabbit repellant spray.

  3. I, too, think using a bundt pan as a planter is a very clever idea.
And, thin slices of avocado on a BLT sandwich is something to do ASAP. Yum!!!
Brenda can you give me some idea of simple meals that work nicely for you. I got tired of salads with lettuce so lately I’ve been making pasta salads. Refreshing and a wonderful change of pace. Your ideas and thoughts?

  4. Thatโ€™s a cool idea to turn a Bundt pan into a planter. People are so clever. I liked the laundry room makeover. I added a rather large mirror in my laundry to make it feel bigger. Gotta get creative when youโ€™re working with small spaces.

  5. Brenda, I love the buttom topiary and that BLT with avocado sure looks good! Gotta explore those two for sure! Thanks for sharing them.
