The Love Of Home Files #17
In The Love Of Home Files #17 I’m all about simplifying life and eating healthier. Less sugar and salt and more vegetables is my goal.
Looking Toward Spring:
An antiques collector and photographer, Jane Peet is also a flower farmer and a stylist of time-worn props.
Jane uses antiques to tell a visual story with her flower bouquets.
She said on Cottages & Bungalows online site: “My first small business was buying and selling antiques, which led me to my camera. I now style and photograph my barn studio, as well as the flower house my husband built for me from architectural salvage.”
Spring Decorating In The Living Room:
I am so enamored of these beautiful marble and alabaster eggs! They’re a little pricey though. I’ll have to stick to the cheaper versions.
I’ve seen lots of DIYs for decorating faux Easter eggs, and I may try that one of these days.
DIY Bunny Napkin Candles:
Bunny themed napkins were used to decorate these candles for Easter and spring.
It would be a cheap way to turn plain candles into something special. You could decorate them for any holiday or special occasion. Or just because!
Good Eating:
Greek Chicken Bowl:
This recipe is made with quinoa, fresh cucumber, kalamata olives, and grilled chicken breasts. It looks both healthy to eat and also delicious.
Chicken, Cranberry, & Pecan Salad Wraps:
This chicken, cranberry, and pecan salad wrap is made up of chicken, cranberries, pecans, and celery.
Mediterranean Orzo Salad:
This vegetarian Mediterranean orzo pasta salad has crunchy vegetables and spinach, briny olives, and feta cheese. The dressing was made with extra virgin olive oil and canola oil.
This would probably taste really good made ahead of time to let the dressing blend into the pasta salad thoroughly.
Healthy Fruit Infused Water:
Have you tried drinking fruit infused water?
Fruit infused water is tasty and good for you. Fresh fruit is preferred, but you can also use frozen fruit.
Above is a fruit infused pitcher, and next to it is the jar for fruit infused water that I have.
Herbal Concoction:
How To Make Lavender Sugar:
You can use fresh or dried lavender for this. It would be a nice gift for someone you care about.
I hope you found a few ideas that inspire you to create or cook something! It’s always fun to try something you haven’t tried before.

Love the recipes and the pretty eggs. If I put anything in my water, it’s usually lemon or sometimes cucumbers. I hope you are having a good day.
Some pretty decorating ideas I’ll check out!
Love Greek inspired food. I make my own Greek pasta salad a lot in the summer. If so desired, you can add chickpeas to it too, if you want more protein. I would just suggest not using canola oil in the dressing (just the extra virgin olive oil), as canola oil is a “bad” oil and causes inflammation.
I drink at least 1/2 gallon water per day and I infuse mine with lemons. Sometimes I’ll use strawberries and cucumber in the summer. And fresh herbs. I don’t use any kind of special infuser. I just put the fruit (and herbs) directly into my glass water pitcher.
How are you feeling now? Have you gotten ahold of your dr?
The marble and alabaster eggs are beautiful but they can be pricey, especially if you go for an egg that appears about medium to large size (2.5 – 3 inches). Oriental Trading Company is selling a dozen plain white ceramic eggs (2 inches tall in the search info I found, website says 2.5 inches tall) for $17.99, not including shipping cost. Perhaps you could use one of the techniques for creating a “marble” look I’ve seen online and create just the colors and patterns you want.
How are you today? I enjoyed your blog, so many beautiful pictures and ideas!
I enjoy salads and have them several times a week.
I’m going to look into the whole fruit infused water concept. I drink quite a bit of water, but it gets boring after a while. LOL
I hope you’re much better!
Yummy looking recipes!! Thanks…always looking for new ideas and want to use more veggies too!!
Those salads look delicious. I hope your health has improved.
