With this patriotic holiday approaching, have you decided on your plans for that day? Or are you planning a quiet day at home? Whether hosting or celebrating in solitude, these creative ideas might help you decide if and how to decorate your spaces.

American citizens celebrate America’s birthday with festivals, parades, fireworks, barbecues, and other festive activities. This brings to mind grilled burgers and hot dogs, potato salad, and apple pie. I wonder who coined the phrase “as American as apple pie.”

The exact origin of the phrase “as American as apple pie” is unknown, but it’s been around since the 1920s. Several early examples of its use appear in the early 20th century, such as a 1924 advertisement for Lestz Suits and a 1928 article in the New York Times. Goldbelly says that a 1924 advertisement for Lestz Suits said they were “as American as apple pie.” A 1928 New York Times article said First Lady Lou Henry Hoover’s cooking and homemaking were โ€œas American as apple pie or corn pone.โ€

What’s more enticing than spending the 4th of July dining on the screened porch, with patriotic bunting and vintage candlesticks? Maybe there will be a thunderstorm, the sound of thunder competing with the fireworks.

I’ve always wanted a screened porch, but I haven’t lived in a house with one.

Here’s a lovely outdoor table setting with patriotic overtones. Patterned dishes are the focal point, while vintage silverware complements them. It doesn’t have to be only red, white, and blue colors taking center stage.

These dishes feature a floral pattern with a hint of yellow and green.

Historical Significance:

Historically significant, the Fourth of July is a federal holiday in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This date marks the day the thirteen American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.

Fourth of July celebrations typically involve fireworks, parades, barbecues, family gatherings, and other festive activities.

Many towns and cities host a marching bandstand and decorated floats, bringing communities together on what is typically Main Street.

  6. Beautiful! For 44 years my parents lived across the street where my elementary and middle schools shared the sports fields in between them. We had skydivers and fireworks on that field. I was 2 weeks old with no air conditioning for my first fireworks and loved them ever since!

what a wonderful post for the Fourth of July! This is a big event for our family and friends! We have a swim party and then buffet/potluck for all day grazing. Then, we watch fireworks provided by the city. We are up on a hillside; so we have a great view of the show! Wishing you and yours a very Happy Fourth of July!…
