This is my book review of The Husband Hour by author Jamie Brenner.

Book Summary:
Lauren Adelman married her high school sweetheart, Rory Kinkaid, a star hockey player. They were very much in love and had a bright future. But then, unexpectedly, Rory shocked everyone by enlisting in the U.S. Army.
Tragically, Rory dies in combat, and Lauren retreats into herself at her family’s summer home and tries to become anonymous to the media and the public. Lauren is left devastated, alone, and under unbearable public scrutiny.
Seeking peace and solitude, Lauren retreats to her family’s old beach house on the Jersey Shore. She’s forced to share the house with her overbearing mother and competitive sister. Then she takes a job as a waitress and keeps herself busy so she doesn’t have too much time to think.
Lauren is upset that her quiet life is about to be upended. Long-time tensions with her older sister also come into play.
Then filmmaker Matt Brio comes onto the scene, who is making a documentary about her late husband. She doesn’t want to deal with it, but he convinces her to spare an hour to talk about her late husband.
But as time goes on, she begins to see that life can still be good. And that she will move on from her loss and eventually find happiness.
Her mother and father have problems of their own, and the secrets that have been kept in the dark begin to be revealed one by one.
My Review:
This was a good women’s fiction read. I’m not much into romances, but this book didn’t lean too heavily into that genre. I still enjoyed it.
The story was more about family, relationships, and the ties that bind, which I found interesting.

Thanks for the book review. This sounds like a book I would enjoy. Still trying to cope with Abi’s tragic passing. As always, thinking of you, Brenda (and Charlie)…

Sounds like a good book for the beach. I hope that you and Charlie are doing ok. Enjoy your beautiful garden.
Hi Brenda! Have you read The Charm Bracelet? It was pretty good and the author has also written The Hope Chest and The Recipe Box. No suspense just good reads about families. So sorry about your baby Abi.
