R.I.P., my sweet Charlie Ross.
Yesterday afternoon, I took Charlie to an emergency veterinarian and had him euthanized. He was doing poorly and could barely get around. I’ve put it off, and I can’t bear to see him barely able to move about.
It was time.
We’d been having a lot of sleepless nights where he couldn’t get his breath or stop coughing.
When it got to the point in time where I was having to give him more medication than was called for, I knew it was too much for him to keep going.
Charlie Ross Pruitt: September 18, 2006 – April 28, 2021
I loved him so very, very much, and always will. And I was with him, petting him and telling him how much I loved him as he left this world behind.
I am heartbroken. He was almost 15, and I had spent every single day with him by my side, sleeping with him every single night. And I miss my Charlie boy terribly. And I miss singing to him at night as I always did. I miss him lying next to me in this chair.
Grief is so complicated. Letting them go is so very hard.
Charlie has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is out of pain. I hope Abi was there waiting for him.

But loss is part of life. And if you dare to love, then you will inevitably feel loss at some point. That is, unfortunately, the price you pay for love.
My sweet Charlie lives on in my heart.
I love you to the moon and back, Charlie boy.

It’s just Ivy and me now. We will grieve together, saddened, but grateful to have one another.
The Rainbow Bridge:
Just this side of heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….Author unknown…
A Jar of Zinnias:

This morning, I went out and cut a jar of zinnias. It is a simple and unfussy bouquet that I can enjoy indoors.
I have Charlie’s ashes now. His and Abi’s ashes are side by side on my bookshelf.

Charlie was loved all the way to heaven. He is running with Abi and pain free we know. Take good care of yourself so they both can be at peace over the rainbow.
Very sorry about Charlie, Brenda. You are in my thoughts.
I am so sorry. When I saw the heading my heart sunk. No words to express my heart felt sympathy.
You’re in my thoughts. I’m so very sorry for your loss, Brenda.
Brenda,
I am so very sorry. Thinking of you and Ivy at this time. There are no words. I wish you peace and comfort at this time. Prayers and many hugs!!

Hugs Brenda. So very sorry for your loss. You gave him such a wonderful life. Take one day at a time. There are many of us lifting you in prayer.
I’m so sorry. I know how hard this was for you. No more pain for your sweet pup. Hugs.
My heart breaks for you. We love our pets and they are our fur family. No words I have will take away your pain. May you find comfort in the love and life he shared with you, Abi and Ivy.
I am so sorry Brenda. I know your heart is breaking. I know this is an unbearable loss. Saying a prayer you find times
Of peace as you grieve. I am sure Abi Was there to meet Charlie.
I’m so sorry-losing Charlie is like losing a child-if fact he was your little boy. Dogs are wonderful-they love you just because you are you.
So sorry for your loss, it is never easy to say goodbye to a fur baby.
Hugs💜
So very very sorry. You loved Charlie and gave him the greatest gift you could give him, to release him from his pain. He was very loved !
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. It was very brave of you to help end Charlie’s suffering – and to give him such a wonderful life for 15 years. Every present or former pet parent is with you in your sadness and shares their love and understanding.
Pat
Oh Brenda! My heart aches for you. It is sooo hard to let go of those little bodies that we love so very much. I’m glad you have Ivy. She can’t replace Charlie, but at least you’re not alone. YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS!
Barb
I am so so sorry Brenda..I know how hard that decision is to make..I am glad that you have Ivy there to give you some comfort..
Oh dear Brenda. There is no pain like what you are experiencing now. Words barely comfort, but the only ones I offer now are encouragement to think of what you gave your little guy (and Abi), in terms of safety, comfort, and unconditional love. There is no better existence for any living creature.
So sorry for your loss.
Brenda, I’m so sorry to read this. Sending you hugs and big dog smooches from my babies. One day at a time is all we can do. I remind myself that the only way to avoid this heartache is to not love….and that would be even more of a heartache.
Oh Brenda, my heart hurts for you. Losing our beloved furry family members is so tough. Hugs and prayers…
I am so sorry. There are no words that can help. Thoughts and prayers.
I am so very sorry. I know how hard it is letting our babies go.
Brenda, so sorry. What a loss. Take care of yourself. It is a very difficult time. Love to you.
I am so sorry. Losing a pet is so difficult. My prayers to both you and Ivy.
Oh Brenda, I am so so sorry. I wish for you comfort and peace with the knowing you were an amazing and loving mama to Charlie.
Be ever so gentle with yourself and remember so many care about you. Sending Peace and Love. Peggy
Oh, gosh, I’m so very sorry. Saying goodbye to our pets is one of the hardest experiences in life. I hope knowing you gave Charlie the absolute best life possible will help you through your grief. ((((Hugs))))
So sorry Brenda. Brings tears.. as I know how hard it is to let them go, on “our” time rather than naturally.. but there comes a point where we just don’t want them to suffer anymore. Our little furbabies are sometimes such fighters for life, bless their hearts. My older cat is becoming in the same condition and I know one of these days, I will have to let her go. Sending hugs and blessings.. for the years you did have with him and all of the wonderful memories…. hugs.. Marilyn
So, so very sorry…wish I had better words to help ease the pain. Take comfort in Ivy where you can.
