This week in Sunday Snippets 10.19.25…
The curtains are now up on two windows in the guest room, thanks to Rhonda, who came over after a doctor’s visit. And she did an excellent job! I’ll be showing you that room later this week.
I don’t want to put the curtains on the north-facing window yet, because that’s where the two cat trees are. I’ll wait for Simon and Daisy to get a little older, possibly out of the mischievous kitten stage.

The girls and I went to lunch yesterday. Kendra’s kids, Riley and Marley, also went with us to eat Mexican food.
Kasi said Andrew and Ross (her husband) were out camping with an organized group this past week. An older man they knew choked to death while eating steak.
Apparently, Andrew saw him die, which had to have been awfully traumatic. The group tried to save him, but he was gone before the paramedics arrived.
A Movie I Watched:
The Woman in Cabin 10
A travel writer stumbles upon a gruesome secret while traveling aboard a luxury cruise ship.

The Woman in Cabin 10 is a thriller about a journalist named Laura “Lo” Blacklock (Keira Knightley). She believes she witnessed a woman being thrown overboard from a neighboring cabin on a luxury cruise.
When everyone is accounted for, Lo investigates on her own. She suspects the ship’s wealthy owner, Richard Bullmer, and his wife, Anne. The investigation becomes dangerous as she uncovers a web of secrets on the yacht.
The story, which serves as the basis for the new Netflix movie, focuses on Lo’s fight to be believed and to uncover the truth.
I watched this movie on Netflix. Ruth Ware wrote the book it was based on.
Series I Just Watched:
Dept. Q

The “Dept Q” plot refers to the Netflix series about a new cold-case unit in Edinburgh led by Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, which is based on the Jussi Adler-Olsen novel series.
The first season’s central plot follows Morck and his team as they investigate the 2017 disappearance of prosecutor Merritt Lingard. It also explores Morck’s personal trauma from a past shooting and the developing relationships within the unlikely “Department Q” team.
I watched Dept. Q on Netflix. There will be a second season.
What I’m Currently Watching:
The Devil’s Hour

The plot of The Devil’s Hour centers on social worker Lucy Chambers, who mysteriously wakes up every night at 3:33 AM and whose emotionless son, Isaac, is connected to a series of brutal murders.
The series reveals that the serial killer, Gideon, is a time-traveler who relives his life from birth after each death. He retains his memories to try to prevent tragedies, which is what led him to abduct Isaac.
Lucy’s family is also connected to Gideon’s time loops, and her connection to the killer, as well as Isaac’s strange abilities, are tied to her past and their interwoven destinies.
What I’m Reading:

By 1960s standards, Margaret Ryan is living the American woman’s dream. She has a husband, three children, a station wagon, and a home in Concordia. It is in one of Northern Virginia’s most exclusive and picturesque suburbs.
She has a standing invitation to the neighborhood coffee klatch, and now, thanks to her husband, a new subscription to A Woman’s Place. It is a magazine that tells housewives like Margaret exactly who to be and what to buy. On paper, she has it all. So why doesn’t that feel like enough?
Margaret is thrown for a loop when she first meets Charlotte Gustafson, Concordia’s newest and most intriguing resident. As an excuse to be in the mysterious Charlotte’s orbit, Margaret concocts a book club get-together. She invites two other neighborhood women, Bitsy and Viv, to the inaugural meeting.
The women share secrets, cocktails, and their honest reactions to the controversial bestseller The Feminine Mystique. They begin to discover that the American dream they’d been sold isn’t all roses and sunshine. And that their secret longing for more is something they share.
They nicknamed themselves the Bettys, after Betty Friedan. These four friends have no idea that their impromptu club and the books they read together will become the glue that holds them fast through tears, triumphs, angst, and arguments. And what will prove to be the most consequential and freeing year of their lives.

This author’s books are ones I really think you’d like. It’s women’s fiction with different female characters, about their lives in that neighborhood.

So sorry your grandson had to watch that man die and no one be able to help him!! I had to heimlich my husband some years ago…he took too many vitamins and they got caught in his throat. We were then across the street from the fire station, but still it would have been hard to have gotten them there quick enough. I managed to do it…heh, his ribs hurt him for a long time afterwards…so probably cracked some. But he is still here!! (Tho barely, as he fell again in our apt and broke both bones of his lower leg…so I only thought life was hard before…NOW it is really hard. Our son has been helping us a lot or no idea what we could do.) As we age especially, we have to be oh so careful to take small bites, chew well and yes, keep water right there at all times!! And be oh so careful in other ways as falling is just too easy too!!
hi Brenda and followers,
I’ve been out of touch for a while but glad to be back. I love all your decorating, book and movie recommendations. please keep all the good news coming. it’s been a hard year.
Brenda, how very sad for your daughter and Andrew and of course the man. I hope that Andrew is doing ok, that can be traumatic. I was the first responder at an accident on Easter Sunday a few years ago and I watched an the passenger(an older woman) took her last breath, then helped her elderly husband out of the car. I still think about them both.
I was thinking of watching the Woman in Cabin in 21 but I don;t really like anything scary. Is it scary?
As for the others they are definitely too scary for me.
Have great weekend Brenda.
Glad you got out and had a visit with Rhonda. Hope Andrew is not too upset about the poor man who passed. Enjoy the beautiful fall weather everyone.
It’s a little cooler today. Last night, the air conditioning actually got down to 72 on the thermostat, down from where I keep it on 74.
My comment just disappeared when I hit send. It was too long to rewrite. I hope you have a nice weekend. I’m so sorry about Andrew witnessing something so tragic. I hope he will get the help he needs to get better!
Oh, it looks like it showed up after all. Well alrighty then!
I’m sorry your comment disappeared. Do you clear your browser cache and history in the right-hand corner?
Omg! I’m sorry that happened to one of their friends, and I’m so sorry to hear Andrew witnessed something so tragic! I hope he will be ok. Will he be getting some therapy to help him?
Your friend, Rhonda, was so nice to come hang your curtains for you. I can’t wait to see them. You’re probably right to wait until the kittens are a little older and less mischievous to hang the rest of them.
It’s nice that you had lunch with your family and that your grandkids came too. As they get older, their lives get busy, so it’s extra special when you get to spend some time with them.
Have a wonderful rest of the day. I love the graphic art. I love to see decorated porches during the holidays.
I purchased a bunch of graphic art last week. I can deduct it, though it’s cheap. I never pay more than two dollars for a group of 8-10.
I just watched a series on Netflix called Leanne! It’s a very light hearted comedy about a women whose husband decides to leave her for another. Then her entering the dating world with a handsome FBI agt. It’s just a lot of cute fluff.
Sadly my MIL chocked to death out one night. She had Alzheimer’s and choking is very common for them. My husband also had Alz and I had to use the Heimlich maneuver on him one night and that was very scary. I feel for your grandson.
I tend to choke, which is why my water is never far from me.
