Today in Sunday Snippets 5.18.25…

It rained last night, and it’s overcast this morning. But there seems to be only a slight breeze from what I can see of the trees through the living room window.

We’ve had pretty cool weather here. It hasn’t been hot yet, for which I am grateful. I will never forget that June storm a few years ago, when the power was out for nearly a week. It was so hot then!

I recall that during that time, only a few of us in those apartments stayed with the power out.

Ron, Pat, John, and I were in our section. I wasn’t leaving Ivy and couldn’t see taking her to Kendra’s, as she has two dogs. Kasi lives too far out. Most of the hotel/motel rooms and Airbnbs were filled.

The Lake House:

Kasi and Ross signed a contract on a lake lot yesterday, where they will build a summer lake house. Andrew loves fishing more than anything and has for years. It has surprised me that, like most kids, he hasn’t moved to something else. So this will be very good for him. And them.

Some friends let them spend a week in their lake house, and they enjoyed it so much they immediately decided they wanted their own. It’s hard for them to go on vacations because of Andrew’s disabilities, one of which is autism.

Kasi works from home and can work anywhere with an internet connection.

What I’m Watching – The Gardener:

I finished watching the 8-part series The Madness on Netflix Friday evening, so last night, I scrolled through the available offerings on Netflix and Prime Video.

In The Madness, Muncie Daniels, a media pundit, must clear his name after he stumbles upon a murder in the Pocono Mountains. To survive, he has to reconnect with his estranged family and lost ideals.

I chose The Gardener to watch on Netflix.

You must know the name itself would appeal to me. But this boy is not an ordinary gardener…

Netflix

In this Spanish psychological thriller miniseries, Elmer and his controlling mother, La China Jurado, run a contract killing business. People in dire situations come to them who need someone eliminated.

Elmer has no emotions due to a childhood car accident that caused brain damage to the right frontal lobe portion of his brain, which is responsible for emotional processing.

He is unable to feel joy, sadness, or love. His mother, China, has had to teach him how to fake emotions and act in a way that seems normal. She used his lack of feelings to turn him into a hitman.

But then Elmer falls for Violeta, a teacher he’s hired to kill.

What I’m Reading – The Last Child:

Amazon

In the novel The Last Child, thirteen-year-old Johnny Merrimon had the perfect life. A warm home and loving parents; a twin sister, Alyssa, with whom he shared an irreplaceable bond. He knew nothing of loss until the day Alyssa vanished from the side of a lonely street. A year later, Johnny finds himself isolated and alone, failed by the people he’d been taught since birth to trust. No one else believes that Alyssa is still alive, but Johnny is certain that she is—confident in a way that he can never fully explain.

Determined to find his sister, Johnny risks everything to explore the dark side of his hometown. It is a desperate, terrifying search, but Johnny is not as alone as he might think. Detective Clyde Hunt has never stopped looking for Alyssa and has a soft spot for Johnny. Then Johnny uncovers a dangerous lead and vows to follow it.

Then a second child goes missing . . .

Undeterred by Hunt’s threats or his mother’s pleas, Johnny enlists the help of his last friend. Together they plunge into the wild, to a forgotten place with a history of violence that goes back more than a hundred years. There, they meet a giant of a man, an escaped convict on his own tragic quest. What they learn from him will shatter every notion Johnny had about his sister’s fate. It will lead them to another far place, a truth that will test both boys to the limit.

The Kitties:

Ivy is off somewhere having her morning nap after breakfast. She divides her naptime between the guest room, my bedroom, and the TV room, where she likes to sleep in one of the four chairs.

Simon has the zoomies, which is fairly typical during the morning. He makes his little barking noises and flees from room to room, as though the devil is chasing him.

Daisy has started making strange noises similar to the ones Simon makes when she gets excited.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Sunday Snippets about life in our little house in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I meant to ask, how’s your teeth doing since you got your crown? I’m happy for Kasi’s family buying and building a lake. They are really going to enjoy that when it’s ready. And your kitties are the sweetest!

  3. Your posts are so much happier since you moved to your new home. This has been a rainy weekend. I have enjoyed watching the young squirrels running around in the grass. There have been a few red birds under the trees.
