In this week’s Sunday Snippets 8.17.25…

Kendra, Riley, Kasi, Ross, and Andrew came for lunch yesterday. Kasi and Ross went out and picked up the best barbecue dinner. I hadn’t heard of the restaurant before, but it is close to where I live.

My goodness, Simon’s running around the house making odd noises and acting a little crazed. That boy gets going like this most every morning till he wears himself out.

Thrift Shopping:

Rhonda and I went shopping on two occasions this past week. When I took her for her birthday lunch on Tuesday, the food was great, but I fell coming out of the restaurant. There was a steep and narrow set of steps leading in and out.

Rhonda said I slipped on a piece of caution tape that was loose and blowing around. I didn’t see it; I just fell off the restaurant flooring onto the concrete outside. Apparently, there was a sign warning folks about the steep steps. But it was dark in the restaurant and I didn’t see it.

My left knee took a good while to stop bleeding. My landing on the concrete from around 12 inches up pretty much took the skin off the whole area. I fell on my wrists and scraped up my left ankle and elbow, but they were minor compared to my left knee. Luckily, I had a brace on my right knee.

Amazon delivered a pack of second-skin bandages yesterday, the kind people sometimes apply after they get a tattoo. It was news to me. Rhonda came up with the idea. Sleeping was a little easier because I wasn’t scraping my wounded knee during the night.

On Friday, Rhonda decided we were taking my walker along with us. That allowed us to be out and about from around noon till 5 p.m., because I could sit down and rest.

We had lunch at a Mexican place she knew about, and it was delicious. And on the way home, she stopped at Sonic and we got our usual cherry limeaids. Oh, those taste so good when it’s hot out!

It’s funny how once you start a routine, you tend to stick to it. Ours seems to be: go thrift shopping and then stop for cherry limeaids. I think Sonic makes the best cherry limeaids. I don’t think I’ve been out to places in a whole year as much as I’ve been out with Rhonda over the past couple of months.

What a wonderful thing that she found me when she did.

What Series I’m Watching:

IMDb

I’m watching the series City On A Hill on HBO. The main character is actor Kevin Bacon, who plays an FBI agent in Boston who tends to break the rules.

In the early 1990s, Boston, criminals, corruption, and racism were a normal part of life. To make matters worse, they were backed by the local law enforcement agencies. Hailing from Brooklyn, District Attorney Decourcey Ward seeks change. He forms a surprising alliance with a hardened FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr. (Kevin Bacon.)

This unlikely duo takes on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown. The case evolves into the change that Boston needs by altering the city’s untrustworthy criminal justice system.

The original story was Ben Affleck’s, and Chuck MacLean then created it. The series was developed with input from Affleck and Matt Damon.

Book I’m Reading:

Amazon

Five women go on a hikeโ€”only four return. Jane Harper, the New York Times bestselling author of The Dry, asks: How well do you really know the people you work with?

Five colleagues are forced to go on a corporate retreat in the wilderness. And they reluctantly pick up their backpacks and start walking down the muddy path.

But one of the women doesnโ€™t come out of the woods. And each of her companions tells a slightly different story about what happened.

Federal Police Agent Aaron Falk has a keen interest in the whereabouts of the missing hiker. In an investigation that takes him deep into an isolated forest. Falk discovers secrets lurking in the mountains. There is also a tangled web of personal and professional friendship, suspicion, and betrayal among the hikers. But did that lead to murder?

  1. Sonic’s cherry limeades are the best!

I hope your knee heals quickly.

  2. So sorry you fell. I hope you’re not too badly hurt. One of my best friends fell at a fair a couple of weeks ago. There was a piece of metal sticking out of the ground that she didn’t see. She fell HARD. Not only did she cut her knee on the metal, but her legs have huge, dark, nasty bruises all over them. She was hurting for a long time. She went to the dr and got a tetanus shot because of the cut from the metal.

Mercy, Brenda…so sorry you fell. That is awful. I have a bad knee due to a fall years ago. Take care and give knee plenty of time to heal. Glad you are having fun with your friend…and her idea to take the walker along is very good!! Hope better days are ahead…soon!

    1. It was a good idea. Then I got to sit when my ankle and knees started to hurt.

  4. Oh no! Brenda, Iโ€™m so sorry to hear you fell and got hurt! Thatโ€™s terrible! Iโ€™m glad Rhonda was there with you to help. Iโ€™m glad the bandages are helping you sleep better. Iโ€™ve never heard of those before either, but Iโ€™m glad they are helping. I hope you heal up quickly! Iโ€™m so grateful you didnโ€™t break anything! It was nice that your family came to eat and spend time with you. Thatโ€™s always my favorite timeโ€ฆ family time.

    1. Greg told me I must have pretty strong bones not to have broken any.

  5. Iโ€™m hoping you heal quickly and thanks for the bandaid info. Iโ€™ll get some of them! Each of us can fall so quickly so Iโ€™ll have them should I need them.

    1. The first one I pulled off pulled off some of the scab. With the second one, I put gauze in between.

  6. Sonics cranberry limeade is awesome also.
I found their sticks( powdered drink mix) in Walmart that serve the purpose,my closest one is an hour away.

    1. I haven’t heard of that drink. I didn’t know they had powdered drink mixes at Walmart either. I’ll have to check that out.

  7. Annette Tracy says:

Nurse that knee a long and get better. I fell a month ago in a brick retaining wall at my house. Landed in my L side and ribs and shoulder. I donโ€™t even remember the first week after. Itโ€™s finally getting better but wiped me out. Itโ€™s not easy getting old.

    1. Wiped me out too. I’m still tired from that day!

  8. So sorry you had a fall Brenda, the bandages you got from Amazon sound great. I am glad you are having a good time thrifting with your friend.

    1. The only thing is, I have a knobby knee, and the bandage curls up except in the middle. But it stays where the scrape is the biggest. I had to order 4 inch by 4 inch bandages!

  9. I hope your knee is feeling better today. It’s terrible falling on concrete. Taking your walker is an excellent idea.
I’m glad you have such a good friend to do things with. It changes your world.
I too love Sonics Cherry Limeade. They’re my favorite. I also buy sonics cherry limeade water flavoring. I’m diabetic and drink a lot of water and it makes it so much better. Of course I get sugar free.
You take care of that knee and be very careful if there’s steps anywhere. I too still have 1 bad knee and 1 replaced knee. I’ll say the replaced one doesn’t hurt like it did but it’s not as good as the original!!

    1. I didn’t know they sold cherry limeaid water flavoring. Might be a game changer!

  10. Iโ€™m sorry about your fall.
Iโ€™m glad you have Rhonda as a fun companion.
Iโ€™m glad your daughters and grandkids are there to support you.
Iโ€™m glad the kitties entertain you when the humans go home for the night!

    1. Thank you! Simon has begun making weird sounds and is running rapidly around the house again. Guess he got his second wind. He’ll stop and disappear for a short time. It will be quiet for about 20-30 seconds, and off he goes again! Daisy doesn’t do this for some reason. Maybe because he’s a male?

      1. Being a cat lady myself, Iโ€™ve seen it all! My male kitty, Pumpkin, even tho his back legs are crippled, can zoom with the best of them. The female, Mittens, just watches himโ€ฆ.shaking her little orange head, no doubt!

  11. Maybe itโ€™s been suggested, but have you considered getting a rolling walker? It definitely takes a different skill set than a traditional walker, but it has enabled my husband to do a few things he couldnโ€™t manage with a traditional walker. However, a rolling walker cannot be used in some circumstances that a traditional walker can be. Iโ€™m sorry that you fell.

    1. She does have a rolling walker which is what I insisted we bring from now on…It was a traumatizing incident, I nearly had a heart attack and was yelling at the staff about their faulty safety tape all in the ten seconds before we helped her get up! I did yell some more before we left.
I spoke with the manager this morning and they have removed the faulty tape and will be adding signage to that particular door (used mostly by the wait staff for sidewalk custom) directing customers to the ADA compliant front entrance.
Up to that point, it was a delicious birthday lunch! I am so thankful to be reunited with my old friend!

      1. I never had a mother around, but you’re even better. You’re a great friend and a mother hen (the best kind!). You know how to get things done!

      2. Iโ€™m so glad you were there to help her! I might have had a heart attack too!

    2. Oh, it is a rolling walker. I forgot to write that. Steve gave it to me after his wife died. Rhonda is a force to be reckoned with.

      1. Everyone needs a force to be reckoned with! Sadly, not all of us who are that force have anyone to do the same for us. So glad youโ€™ve rediscovered a childhood friend!
