The Love Of Home Files #10
The Love Of Home Files #10 is about New Year’s recipes and after Christmas decorating.
Winter Neutrals:
After Christmas I think many of us are ready for a fresh slate. This living room is a breath of fresh air. It’s the beginning of a new year and maybe a new way of life.
That could mean many things to many people. Some tend to think about organization and decluttering. Others think of a simpler way of decorating their home.
I just know that after Christmas I’m ready to purify things a bit.
This living room is like a sigh at the end of a long sentence. It is neutral and simple.
The Winter Bedroom:
We spend a third of our life in bedrooms, so we should make this room as appealing as possible. It should be a place where we want to go and feel comfort and relaxation.
Some say the bedroom should only be for sleeping. Others think it should be a more like a small sitting area, with a place to sit and read and/or drink tea.
The bedroom above oozes charm and is quite inviting.
Candlelight:
This grouping would be a beautiful candlelit scene after dark. As the candles flicker it highlights the gold decor.
Winter White Decor:
Winter decor is usually light and uncomplicated. Like the snowflake above symbolizes, many see winter as a time of hibernation and rest.
Dried Orange & Eucalyptus Wreath:
This beautiful wreath is a lesson in simplicity. It is especially beautiful between the two pieces of green wood decor, bringing the colors to the forefront.
Pine Cones As Decor:
We tend to think of pine cones as decor during certain times of the year like fall and winter. Snow falling and wind blowing branches about and pine cones falling to the ground.
New Year Themed Recipes:
For New Year’s many of you are planning parties and get-togethers. Below is a recipe for an appetizer, lucky black-eyed peas, and a twice baked potato casserole.
Mini Cheese Ball Bites:
These little cheese balls are made with dried fruit and cream cheese, and served on a pretzel stick to make a bite-sized snack.
Southern Black-Eyed Peas:
Southern Black Eyed Peas (Hoppin’ John) is classic comfort food on New Year’s day. It is served for good luck.
Million Dollar Twice Baked Potato Casserole:
This Million Dollar Twice Baked Potato Casserole has mashed potatoes, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, cheddar cheese, onion, garlic, butter, and Italian bread crumbs.
I know of twice baked potatoes, but have never seen one made into a casserole. Good filling and hearty food for a cold day.
I like that neutral bedroom – the bed looks so cozy and inviting. I especially love the ruffled bed skirt.
J, I’m so very sorry! I’m sending you a big, virtual ((hug))! Cherish your time with your dad!
Brenda, I really liked the winter bedroom. It looks so cozy, comfy, peaceful and relaxing.
I love the peaceful bedroom. I think we can all use some peaceful decor after the hustle and bustle.
Brenda, thanks for taking the time to find these posts for us. It’s always a lot of fun to go in and look at them. And “J”, sorry about your Christmas this year. Hopefully in the years to come you’ll have more joyful seasons.
Christmas has been my most happiest time of the yr but this yr is the worst yr ever! First I lost my Mom and Sunday when I woke up my dog was gone too! He went up to heaven to be with my Mom! So I’m trying to bake cookies for my Dad bc he’s still here on earth and baking makes everyone happy! I just feel sooo empty and lost now so I’m taking it day by day!
Have a good weekend everyone!
I’m SO sorry! That’s a lot to happen so quickly. Be kind to yourself, is what I always suggest.
J , sending you light, peace and love. So sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear of your losses!! Hope you and your dad can console each other!! Having lost loved ones in Nov and Dec, was very extra hard I found!!
