I’ve been busy getting my front flower beds ready for planting seeds. I took some photos this morning to show you the perennials that have come up from last year.

Here are some of the hostas I planted in pots in the front flower beds last year.

The lavender flower is phlox. I traded some of my lamb’s ear to my next-door neighbor for it and have a little clump of it in two pots.

One pot has sedum, and one is empty until I plant seeds. The galvanized container has coral bells, ornamental grass, hosta, phlox, chocolate mint, and golden pennies.

The sedum is up. I forgot the name of this one. In the galvanized tub are ornamental grass, coral bells, and a hosta. Plus, the other small clump of phlox Tessa gave me.

You can also see chocolate mint and golden pennies coming up in the front flower beds. I can’t recall if I planted anything else in that pot. But I doubt it, or it would probably be sprouting by now. However, I could be wrong about that.

My Front Flower Beds 2026 include this perennial Sedum I planted last year.

The lamb’s ear is abundant. I have never had this much of the plant, and it’s one of my favorite herbs.

Did you know it belongs to the mint family?

My Front Flower Beds 2026 have various colored coral bell plants.

The Japanese maple I planted in a pot is below. I might have to repot this little tree, because the wind keeps knocking it over in the right-hand front flower bed.

More Potting Soil Ordered:

This morning I ordered yet more potting soil. I have found that the lowest price for it is at Walmart, and they deliver it. It’s $7.97 for 25 dry quarts of Miracle-Gro.

I haven’t begun planting any seeds yet. I’m trying to get a few more pots for my porch, get them filled with potting soil, and see where I am.

Kasi was here yesterday; she helped with lifting and dumping soil, then swept the porch for me. It looked pretty neglected from last season, with leaves and other debris blown around.

She also pushed the pots in the two front flower beds close together so I could walk around them if I needed to.

Accomplishments for my front Flower Beds 2026

This morning, I went out and decided I needed two more of the 16-inch blue pots I ordered from Walmart last year. It was a dollar more this time, but that’s not a big jump.

I also ordered two 15-inch green pots to put up on the concrete stem wall, where I had three pots on one side and three on the other.

I’m going to take the two green 12-inch pots that were in between the blue pots and put them on the porch in that beverage tub I have.

The two 16-inch royal blue pots I ordered will go in a long elevated metal planter I’ve been toting around for years. I think I’ll grow some of the vegetable seeds I ordered from Renee’s Garden in them.

Green pots I ordered from Walmart.

The 15-inch green pots I ordered are above. They’re called Garden Elements pots, and I ordered two for the stem wall. They will go between the royal blue pots.

I hope the photo is true in color, because that would perfectly match my green front door. They were a little pricier, but I needed that color and size.

Veggies, Flowers, & Herbs

Veggies, flowers, and herbs will go in the six pots on the stem well. And some plants will go on the porch too.

It’s easier to plan things out when you have the actual plants. But that’s not in the plan this year because I can’t afford it. So I’m having to judge for seed size instead.

Here are photos of my front garden beds last year, my first summer living here. The pots will basically be in the same configuration.

So that is my plan for the garden for the spring and summer of 2026.

Already looking good…will be fun to see what all you put in this year!! Love the way your house looks too…such character!! It kind of says “welcome”!

  3. Your yard was so pretty last year. I can’t wait to see it this year. I’m interested to see how growing everything from seeds turns out and I think it’s really cool that you’re growing your own vegetables.

  4. I cannot see any pictures. Usually I can.

I don’t know what could be causing that for you.

All these lovely plant photos are making me excited for growing season here in IL! We still have at least a few more weeks to go. My lamb’s ear is just now poking some greenery from under all the mulch and dead leaves from winter. It is sunny and 78 today but that’s one of our teaser days. Lots of rain and 40’s and 50’s for awhile.

    1. We could still get cold weather here, too. I like to wait until April 15 to plant.

  6. Your perennials are looking good! I love the pop of color the green pots and your front door give off! Have a good week!

Just wrote a long post and it disappeared. Your Japanese maple is beautiful and so lacy looking I got one from Lowe’s last year do $49! I was so excited. I too put it in a pot in my sunny side yard but the heat was too much for it so moved it to a porch off of my bedroom that gets mostly shade and it is very happy now. Cant wait to see your beautiful pots in a few months.

    1. I paid twice as much for my tree, but it was at a garden nursery.
