  1. So sad for your, good dogs go directly to a better place… I had my Lylly euthanized in the spring after she had been ill for months and just worn out at 16 plus years. You see her photo on her Facebook page Lylly Spry.

I think her spirit became a robin as the first one of spring flipped past my car as I cried in the parking lot of the local coffee shop..
    Felicitations… Prue

  28. I’m so sorry. It is such a hard thing to do. I had to have my boy Dickens put to sleep last week and I miss him so much. He was blind, had a heart condition and was 17, so I guess I was luck to have him so long, but he leaves such a hole in my life.

Losing a beloved pet is so very difficult 🦋

  43. Brenda, there’s nothing any of us can say that will ease your pain, but perhaps it might help knowing that he is now happy, out of pain, and can chew and eat and breathe like he should. I’m sure Abi is with him showing him her favorite places and trying to boss him around already. It’s those of us that are left behind then have the misery. We can be soothed knowing that they are comfortable, warm and safe. I’m sure that Ivy is confused and concerned about you. Kitties are wonderful healers, so let her do her job as she knows best. Words barely comfort, but the only ones I offer now are encouragement to think of what you gave your little guy (and Abi), in terms of safety, comfort, and unconditional love. There is no better existence for any living creature.

  69. Brenda, I’m so sorry to read this. Sending you hugs and big dog smooches from my babies. One day at a time is all we can do. I remind myself that the only way to avoid this heartache is to not love….and that would be even more of a heartache.

  77. So sorry Brenda. Brings tears.. as I know how hard it is to let them go, on “our” time rather than naturally.. but there comes a point where we just don’t want them to suffer anymore. Our little furbabies are sometimes such fighters for life, bless their hearts. My older cat is becoming in the same condition and I know one of these days, I will have to let her go. 80. Brenda, as much as your heart aches right now, I hope in time you’ll come to think of Charlie at peace and playing with darling Abi. Your love for him will keep him close to you always, as it has Abi.
I share your sorrow and will miss your sweet boy.

  81. I read your blog everyday. I had to comment today to express my sadness. I am so sorry for your loss. You were such a loving and devoted mama to Charlie. I truly believe Abi was there waiting for Charlie when he crossed the rainbow bridge.

  82. Brenda, please accept my condolences on losing Charlie. I’m a long time reader and know how very attached you were to your baby boy. Our two labs are a huge part of our world and I know I will be devastated when they pass away. I’m so very sorry for your loss and heart ache.

  89. I am so very sorry for your loss Brenda. You are a wonderful pet parent and did everything you possibly could to help Charlie. Please know that I understand your pain and am grieving too. I had to have my cat euthanized on Sunday. It is by far the most excruciating decision we have to make as pet parents. My cat was in the final stages of kidney failure. She was with me for 13 years. I truly believe our fur kids are the purest form of unconditional love and there is a special place for them in heaven.

  90. I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet baby boy. You did the right thing by taking him out of his misery, but I know that it broke your heart to do so. All pet lovers are mourning with you.

  91. Oh Brenda,
I wish there was a way to make it easier for you to bear. I know of no one who was as devoted to a pet as you were to Charlie. He had the best life and gave you so much love. In my mind I see Abby there to greet him. Bless them and you.

    Sherry B

  102. It is so hard to make that decision to let go, but you made the right one. Two of my beloved doggies pretty much went the same way, but honestly Brenda, given my experiences with my dogs, I believe they knew when there time came, and they were at peace with it. It was hard, but also the only way I wanted it to go, to be there with them at the vet’s office through the end. Your readers are grieving with you, and understand the magnitude of your loss. 125. Oh so sorry, Brenda…such days are so hard!! I know you will miss him…some dogs we never get past missing badly…at least that has been how it is for me. But hope you can have peace knowing you kept him going much longer than probably anyone else could have. That is a good age for any kind of dog!!

  126. Charlie touched some many lives through your blog. He was greatly loved and he will be greatly missed by so many who never met him or had the chance to pet him. Those of us who have lost beloved pets know your loss and pain. You did your very best for him and gave him excellent care. No dog was as attentively cared for as Charlie was. He was a lion in a tiny body guarding you from possums and any critter that dared invade his patio. I know you always made the best decisions concerning Charlie. I think he would thank you for the release from his ongoing pain and struggles. You made every accommodation possible to extend his quality of life. He lived a happy life with you. All dogs would want the life he had. You’re a great Mom, Btenda.

  127. So sorry for your loss. He was such a cute fur baby. It’s very hard to lose one you have had that long. So very sorry. Wilma Swank

May you be comforted in knowing that you were the best “mom” both of them could have ever wanted. And hold Ivy tight; she knows what you are feeling and she, too, needs your comfort.

  130. I am so sorry, Brenda. I know how hard it is to make that decision for our babies. I have done it twice. There just comes a time you have to think of them instead of how we feel about them going. Take care. Ivy will be a comfort to you, I’m sure. pam

  135. I’m so sorry for your loss. Those of us who have fur babies understand your pain, and the heartbreaking but loving decision to help them cross the rainbow bridge and end THEIR pain. Our sweet pea Springer is 13 and I can already see the day approaching for us to make that very same choice. Your little Charlie Ross had a happy life and that was all because of you.

  149. Brenda I am so sorry. Crying here in NY. I loved reading about Charlie. I have a 15 year old pup too. You are the best pet mom.

  150. Oh Brenda, there are no words to express how sorry I am to hear about Charlie. It’s a long time to share your life with a pet and then the time comes to set them free. You were so good to Abi and Charlie. I am thankful you have Ivy to comfort you. Much love, Annette 💞

  151. Brenda I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Charlie Ross. I also have tears running down my face while reading this. Your pets have the best most loving Mom. I can’t imagine how hard this is for you. You will be in my thoughts all day. Take care.

  154. They are always in our hearts, but it is so hard to let them go. Part of being a good mama is knowing when to say goodbye. You are a good mama. Abbie is there with the great news that they serve pizza. 😢

  155. I never met Charlie but I know he was loved. He knew he was loved. That’s what matters. He will be missed.

  156. Dear Brenda;

  157. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I myself have been in that position twice and know it is heartbreaking, but knew it was the right thing to do. My best friend just had to make that same heartbreaking decision a few weeks ago but she knew it was the right thing to do. Be Brave, Be Strong in knowing you did all you could do —and beyond The strong know when it is time

  165. Brenda, I’m so sorry to hear that you had to make the hardest decision anyone could ever be faced with. Your own bravery and your love for your sweet boy has stopped his struggle and he’s now at peace and you will be soon. Never did a dog have a better life. Take the time you need to grieve and try to think of the love you and Charlie shared and not just the sadness of yesterday. Much love to you.

  166. I am so so sorry for your loss. I know how much you loved your sweet Charlie and most importantly he knew too. Praying for you in the days ahead.

Rest in peace, Charlie…no more pains…

  177. Brenda: My ache aches for you & I send you hugs & hope that you can take some comfort in knowing that Charlie is no longer in pain & is running free with Abi again. You were a wonderful mom to him & you did all anyone could do for him. It’s never easy to let them go, but there comes that time when we must say goodbye to them for their own sake. Sending you love.

  178. Brenda I am sorry for your loss. They leave us much too soon. But we cannot let them suffer because we love them too much for that. My thoughts and prayers are with you dear friend.😭
